6. Initial Operation

Before plugging in the device, check that the rated mains voltage and mains
frequency, as specified on the rating label, match your power supply.

Australia: Always use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply with a
rated residual current of 30mA or less.
6.1 Assembly
Insert the guide roller axles (8) until they engage Fig. A. Fit the wheels (9) and secure with screws (place a shim under the screw head) Fig. B.
Fit the pipe support (10) until it clicks into place, as shown (for ASA 32 L only) Fig. C.
6.2 Fitting the pleated filter

Fig. D + E Fit the pleated filter (11) on the
housing as far as the limit stop and secure by twisting the bayonet fitting (12).
6.3 Inserting a Fleece Filter Bag
Fleece filter bags (13) are not suitable for wet vacu-uming.
We recommend using fleece filter bags for:
- Applications, where small amounts of fine dust are created (e.g. spot-grinding and grinding of paint and lacquer coatings, extraction of drilling applications with small diameters < 10mm of short duration, etc.).
- Use of machines, such as: routers, planers, small grinding machines, etc.
Switch off the device, remove the mains plug and open the snap locks (3). Remove the upper part (1) of the device from the container (4).
ENGLISHen
Push the fleece filter bag together with its cardboard tab into the filter bag holder located on the suction piece (inside the container) Fig. F.
Adjust the fleece filter bag (13) so that it is flush with the container wall and is not damaged when you replace the upper part.
7. The Appliance
7.1 Switching On/Off, automatic operation
Use the switch (5) to turn the machine On/Off.
Switch position I : "ON"
Switch position 0: "OFF"
For ASA 32 L only:
Use the (6) switch to activate automatic On/Off.
If the (6) switch is in the "A" position and the (5) switch is in the "I" position, the vacuum cleaner can be activated or deactivated by a power tool connected to the power socket (7).
7.2 Power socket (7) (ASA 32 L only)

The power socket (7) is designed for connection to a power tool only.

The total maximum permissible current consumption (of vacuum cleaner and
connected unit) must not exceed the value I_ (see table, page 2).

Caution! Ensure that the power tool is switched off when plugging it in. Regar
the switch position, the plug socket is always live when the mains plug is plugged in.
If the switch is (5) in the "0" position, you can use the plug socket as an extension lead (e.g. for a light fitting).
If the (6) switch is in the "A" position and the (5) switch is in the "I" position, the vacuum cleaner can be activated or deactivated by a power tool connected to the power socket (7).
8. Use
8.1 Dry Vacuuming
Vacuum using a dry filter, dry device and dry accessories only. If the cartridge is damp, dust may stick and form a crust.
Always use the fleece filter bag (13) together with the pleated filter (11).
8.2 Wet vacuuming

Never operate the machine without inserting a pleated filter (11). The machine may be rowed and water may also escape.
Vacuum without fleece filter bag (13). The pleated filter (11) is suitable for wet vacuuming.
Before carrying out any wet vacuuming, remove the dry vacuumed material. This process will prevent severe soiling and encrustation.
The float valve interrupts the suction process if the container is full. Switch off the motor, empty container and pleated filter (11), if required.
After switching off, some water may run back out of the hose.
Before emptying, first of all take the suction hose out of the liquid.
Use a dry pleated filter to carry out dry vacuuming afterwards. If you are frequently switching between dry and wet vacuuming, we recommend the use of a second (replacement) pleated filter. Allow the pleated filter, container and accessories to dry: otherwise dust may adhere to damp components.
8.3 Transport
Leave the hose on the machine to prevent dust from accidentally being released.
Wrap the suction hose about the vacuum cleaner.
Wind the mains connection lead (2) about the upper part, as shown.
The upper part (1) must be securely sealed to the container (4) - check that the snap locks (3) are closed.
9. Cleaning
9.1 General Cleaning Instructions
Clean the container and accessories with water. Wipe the upper part (1) with a damp cloth.
Caution! This appliance contains dust that is harmful to health. Discharge and maintenance operations (including disposal of the dust collection containers) must only be carried out by qualified specialists wearing appropriate protective clothing and equipment.
Emptying the Container

Only permitted for dusts with occupational exposure limits >1mg / m^3
- unplug mains cable.
- Open the snap locks (3). Remove the upper part (1) from the container (4).
- Tip out the container.
Disposing of the Fleece Filter Bag
- Unplug power cable;
- Pull on mask.
- Open the snap locks (3). Remove the upper part (1) of the device from the container (4).
- Carefully remove the fleece filter bag (13). Seal the flange of the fleece filter bag by folding over the cover.
- Dispose of the vacuumed material in accordance with legal regulations.
Clean the pleated filter
- Occasionally tap the pleated filter to remove (11) any dust that has gathered on it. If the filter is very dirty, you can clean it with water and a soft brush. Allow to filter to dry properly afterwards.
10. Maintenance
10.1 General Instructions

Before performing any maintenance, always switch off the machine and remove the mains
plug.

Clean the appliance (see section9.).
For maintenance by the user, the vacuum cleaner must be taken apart, cleaned and maintained, to the extent possible, without endangering maintenance staff or other people.
Preventive Measures
Appropriate preventive measures include: cleaning the appliance before disassembly; providing local filtered forced ventilation where the vacuum cleaner is disassembled; cleaning of the maintenance area and providing suitable personal protective clothing and equipment.
When carrying out maintenance or repairs, it is essential to dispose of any contaminated objects that cannot be adequately cleaned. These objects must be disposed of using impermeable bags and in accordance with the applicable regulations for removing such waste.
10.2 Reduction in suction power
If the suction power decreases, carry out the following steps:
- Empty the container or replace fleece filter bag (13).
- Clean or replace the pleated filter (11).
10.3 Replacing the pleated filter (11)
(11)Seal the pleated filter immediately in a dust-tight plastic bag and dispose of it in accordance with regulations. Fit a new pleated filter, ensuring that it is properly and securely positioned. See section 6.2.
10.4 Motor protection filter
Regularly check the motor protection filter.
Replace the motor protection filter (14) or, if applicable, clean it under running water, dry it and then replace Fig. G.
10.5 Water sensor
Fig. H: Regularly clean the water sensor (15) (=float valve) and check for signs of damage. It should be possible to move the float valve slightly.
10.6 Technical inspection
At least once a year, the manufacturer or a suitably qualified and trained person must carry out a dust test, e.g. to check for damage to the filter, verify that the appliance is air-tight and that the control unit is functioning correctly.
11. Troubleshooting
Reduction in suction power:
See the instructions in the section on Cleaning.
Is the pleated filter (11) dirty? Clean the cassettes.
Fleece filter bag (13) full? - replace.
- Container (4) full? Empty the container.
- Nozzle, tubes or hose blocked? Clean.
Appliance will not start:
- Is the plug in the plug socket?
- N o p o w e r f r o m m a i n s?
- Mains lead OK?
- Has the water sensor cut off? - Empty the container; then switch on and off again.
- Switch (6) in "A" position? Set switch (6) to "I". See section 7.1.
- The vacuum cleaner is not switched on or off by means of a power tool, even though switch (6) is set to the "A" position. - Connect the power tool to the plug socket (7).
Do not interfere with the appliance. Contact an authorized workshop or Metabo's after-sales service department (see section on 13. Repairs).
