II. ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES

Safety instructions for all saws

PANASONIC EY3552 - Safety instructions for all saws - 1

DANGER

  • Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. Keep your second hand on auxiliary handle, or motor housing. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
  • Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the workpiece.
  • Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the blade teeth should be visible below the workpiece.
  • Never hold piece being cut in your hands or across your leg. Secure the workpiece to a stable platform. It is important to support the work properly to minimize body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
  • Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with a "live" wire will also make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and shock the operator.
  • When ripping, always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy of the cut and reduces the chance of blade binding. Always use blades with the correct size and shape (diamond versus round) of arbor holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run eccentrically, causing loss of control.
  • Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolts. The blade washers and bolt were specially designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.

Further safety instructions for all saws

Causes and operator prevention of kickback:

  • Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, bound, or misaligned saw blade, causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator;
  • When the blade is pinched or bound tightly by the kerf closing down, the blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward the operator;
  • If the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut, the teeth at the back edge of the blade can dig into the top surface of the wood, causing the blade to climb out of the kerf and jump back toward the operator.

Kickback is the result of saw misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.

1) Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw and position your arms to resist kickback forces. Position your body to either side of the blade, but not in line with the blade.

Kickback could cause the saw to jump backwards, but kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken.

2) When the blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion, or kickback may occur.

Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding.

3) When restarting a saw in the workpiece, center the saw blade in the kerf and check that saw teeth are not engaged into the material.

If the saw blade is binding, it may walk up or kickback from the workpiece as the saw is restarted.

4) Support large panels to minimize the risk of blade pinching and kickback.

Large panels tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel.

5) Do not use dull or damaged blades.

Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce narrow kerf causing excessive friction, blade binding and kickback.

6) Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making cut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may cause binding and kickback. 7) Use extra caution when making a "plunge cut" into existing walls or other blind areas. The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback.

Safety instructions for this saw

1) Check lower guard for proper closing before each use. Do not operate the saw if lower guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position. If saw is accidentally dropped, lower guard may be bent. Raise the lower guard with the Lower Guard Lift Lever and make sure it moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part, in all angles and depths of cut. 2) Check the operation of the lower guard spring. If the guard and the spring are not operating properly, they must be serviced before use. Lower guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or a buildup of debris. 3) Lower guard should be retracted manually only for special cuts such as "plunge cuts" and "compound cuts." Raise lower guard by Lower Guard Lift Lever and as soon as blade enters the material, the lower guard must be released. For all other sawing, the lower guard should operate automatically. 4) Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing saw down on bench or floor. An unprotected, coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards, cutting whatever is in its path. Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after switch is released. 5) Do not use any abrasive wheels. 6) Wear a dust mask, if the work causes dust. 7) Use saw blades recommended by Manufacture. 8) Wear ear protectors when using the tool for extended periods. 9) The risk of kickback increases as the battery pack discharges. 10) Be sure to inspect material. Avoid cutting other different material.

11) Be careful not to drop the Metal Cutter. 12) Never swing the Metal Cutter. 13) Never cover the ventilation slots, and keep them free from dust or other material. 14) Do not clamp the Metal Cutter in a vise. Never cut with the Metal Cutter held upside down in a vise. This is extremely dangerous and can lead to serious accidents. 15) Never wear knitted gloves. 16) Be sure no one is below when using the Metal Cutter in high locations. 17) Do not touch the blade immediately after operation. It may be hot and could burn your skin. 18) Do not touch material after it has been cut. Cut material may be very hot. 19) Do not use cutting oil. This use of cutting oil may cause a fire. 20) Do not cut workpieces covered or stained with gas, oil, solvents, thinners, etc. Exposure to these materials may damage the transparent guard. 21) Do not remove the transparent and lower guards. If the transparent and lower guards are damaged or missing, return the tool to an authorized service center for replacement. 22) Do not start the blade when it is in contact with the workpiece. Wait for the blade to reach full speed before beginning the cut.

For Proper Use (Further Detail)

PANASONIC EY3552 - For Proper Use (Further Detail) - 1

WARNING

To prevent the risk of serious personal injury:

It is important to use an appropriate device to hold the material being cut properly, and to hold the cutter firmly with both hands to prevent loss of control which could cause personal injury. Figure 7 shows proper cutting position. Note that hands are kept away from cutting area. - Make sure bystanders are away from work area and from underneath of workpiece. - When cutting, do not try to hold the material with your hand.

Cutting large sheets;

Support large sheets. Be sure to set the depth of the cut so that you only cut through the workpiece, not through the supports. (See Fig.8)

Large sheets sag or bend if they are not correctly supported. If you attempt to cut without leveling and properly supporting the workpiece, the blade will tend to bind, causing kickback. (See Fig.9)

  • Don't support the material away from the cut.

Cutting thin or corrugated materials;

Cut thin and corrugated materials at least 1 inch from the edge of the workpiece to avoid injury or damage to the tool caused by thin strips of metal being pulled into the upper guard.

  • Use sharp blades only. Clean and sharp blades minimize stalling and kickback.

PANASONIC EY3552 - Cutting thin or corrugated materials; - 1

WARNING

To prevent the risk of serious personal injury:

  • When making an incomplete cut or cutting is interrupted, or blade is binding or cutter is stalling; release the power switch immediately and hold the cutter motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop.
  • To avoid kickback, never attempt to remove the cutter from the work or pull the cutter backward while the blade is in motion. Make sure the blade has come to a complete stop, then remove cutter from cut.
  • To resume cutting, start metal cutter, allow the blade to reach full speed, reenter the cut slowly and resume cutting.
  • Place the wider part of the shoe on the part of the work piece which is solidly supported (See Fig.10), never on the section that will fall off when the cut is made. (See Fig.11)

Hold the cutter firmly to prevent loss of control. Working carelessly can cause severe personal injury.

2. Make sure the blade stops.

Even though your metal cutter has a brake, before setting the metal cutter down, make sure the blade has come to a complete stop and the lower guard has closed.

3. Do not use if anything seems unusual. Remove battery pack immediately.

If the metal cutter body becomes very hot, or does not work properly, remove the battery pack and do not use. Have it checked by an authorized service center.

WARNING

To prevent the risk of serious personal injury or fire, do not try to repair the metal cutter by yourself. Never disassemble or modify the metal cutter body. There are no user-repairable parts inside.

4. NEVER ALLOW THE CUTTER TO COME IN CONTACT WITH YOUR BODY.

After completing a cut, do not allow the cutter to brush against your leg or side.

Since the lower guard is retractable, it could catch on your clothing and expose the blade.

Keep clothing away from metal cutter. Be aware of the exposed blade sections that exist in both the upper and lower guard areas.

WARNING

Because cutting metal creates sparks;

Always use safety goggles. - Do not use metal cutter near any flammable substance or in an area where flammable substances are used. Fire and burn injury could result.

5. Never engage the spindle lock while blade is running, or engage in an effort to stop the tool. Never turn the switch on when the spindle lock is engaged. Serious damage to your metal cutter will result.

I. INTRODUCTION

1. Is the blade installed in the correct direction?

The arrow on the blade should point in the same direction as the arrow on the upper blade guard.

This is the result of improper use or maintenance of the blade, or failure to follow the technical instructions. It can be avoided by taking appropriate precautions as listed below.

1) Keep the blade guard in a position that allows counteracting kickback forces. Stand so that your body is to one side of the blade, not in line with it. Kickback can cause the blade to jump in a backward direction, but the operator can maintain control if proper precautions are taken. 2) When the blade is pinched, or when the cutting process is interrupted for any reason, release the trigger and hold the saw.

Keep the blade stationary in the material until the blade has completely stopped. Never attempt to remove the blade from the workpiece or pull the blade backward while the blade is moving, otherwise kickback may occur. Investigate the cause of the pinching and take the necessary corrective actions to eliminate the cause of the pinching.

3) When restarting the saw, with the blade inside the workpiece, center the blade in the kerf and check that the teeth are not engaged in the material.

If the blade binds, kickback can act on the workpiece in any direction when the saw is restarted.

4) Support large panels securely to minimize the risk of blade pinching and kickback.

Large panels tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel.

5) Do not use dull or damaged blades.

Unsharpened or improperly set blades cause a narrow kerf, which leads to excessive friction, blade pinching, and kickback.

6) The blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and securely fastened before making the cut.

If the blade adjustment shifts during cutting, it may cause binding and kickback.

7) Use extra caution when making a "plunge cut" into an existing wall or other blind area. The protruding blade may cut objects that could cause kickback.

Safety instructions for this saw

1) Before starting operation, check the correct closing of the lower guard. Do not operate the saw if the lower guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp the lower guard in the open position.

The lower protective device is raised using clamps or yokes. If the blade is accidentally dropped, the lower protective device may bend. Raise the lower protective device using the retractable handle and make sure that it moves freely and does not touch the fabric or any other part when cutting at any angle or depth. 2) Check the functioning of the spring of the lower protective device. If the protective device and the spring do not function properly, they must be repaired before use. The lower protective device may function too slowly due to damage to parts, accumulation of sticky deposits, or ingress of debris. 3) The lower protective device must be retracted manually only for special types of saws, such as "plunge" and "combination". Raise the lower protective device with the retractable handle, and as soon as the blade enters the material, the lower protective device must be released. For all other types of saws, the lower protective device must function automatically. 4) Do not forget to check that the lower protective device covers the blade before placing the saw on the workbench or floor. An unprotected blade, coasting by inertia, will become the cause of the saw moving in the reverse direction and cutting everything in its path. Remember that it takes some time for the blade to stop after switching off. 5) Do not use abrasive discs. 6) Wear a dust mask if cutting parts generates dust. 7) Use blades recommended by the manufacturer. 8) Wear safety glasses when using the tool for an extended period of time. 9) The risk of kickback increases when the battery pack is discharged. 10) Carefully inspect the material. Avoid cutting other materials.

11) Be careful not to drop the metal cutter. 12) Never perform any work with the metal cutter. 13) Never block the ventilation openings and keep them free from dust and other materials. 14) Do not clamp the metal cutter in a vise. Do not cut with the metal cutter turned upside down in the vise. This is extremely dangerous and can lead to serious accidents. 15) Never wear loose clothing or gloves. 16) When using the metal cutter at height, make sure that no one is below. 17) Do not touch the tool immediately after use. It may be hot and burn your skin. 18) Do not touch the material after it has been cut. The cut material may be very hot. 19) Do not use emulsion oil. Such use of emulsion oil may cause a fire. 20) Do not cut materials with a coating or paint of benzene, oil, solvents, thinners, etc. The effect of these materials may damage the transparent protective device. 21) Do not remove the transparent and lower protective devices. If the transparent or lower protective device is damaged or missing, return the tool to an authorized service center for replacement. 22) Do not turn on the tool if the blade is touching the workpiece. Wait until the blade reaches full speed before starting to cut. 23) In accordance with the Federal Law of Russia "On Protection of Consumer Rights", the service life of this product is 7 years, 1200 charges (only for the battery pack) from the date of manufacture, provided that the product is used with the tool in accordance with this instruction manual and applicable technical standards.
