What is the charging time for the battery of the RYOBI CSD 40 LI cordless drill-driver?
Frequently Asked Questions - 06/01/2026
Response Notice-Facile

The charging time for the 4V lithium-ion battery of the RYOBI CSD 40 LI cordless screwdriver is 10 to 12 hours with the supplied standard RYOBI charger. This time applies to both the first charge (before first use) and subsequent recharges after using the tool.

The integrated 1.2 Ah battery provided with this model fully charges within this timeframe. To ensure optimal and safe charging, always use the original RYOBI charger compatible with your CSD 40 LI, following the instructions in the user manual.

This relatively long charging time is normal for a standard charger designed for low voltage (4V) lithium-ion batteries. It is recommended to plug in the charger right after use so that the battery is ready for your next project.

OPERATION

DIRECTION OF ROTATION SELECTOR (FORWARD / REVERSE / CENTER LOCK)

See Figure 3.

The direction of bit rotation is reversible and is controlled by a selector located above the switch trigger. With the screwdriver held in normal operating position, the direction of rotation selector should be positioned to the left of the switch trigger for forward motion. The direction is reversed when the selector is to the right of the switch trigger.

Setting the switch trigger in the OFF (center lock) position helps reduce the possibility of accidental starting when not in use.

RYOBI CSD 40 LI - DIRECTION OF ROTATION SELECTOR (FORWARD / REVERSE / CENTER LOCK) - 1

CAUTION

To prevent gear damage, always allow the collet to come to a complete stop before changing the direction of rotation.

To stop the screwdriver, release the switch trigger and allow the collet to come to a complete stop.

NOTE: The screwdriver will not run unless the direction of rotation selector is pushed fully to the left or right.

TWO-SPEED GEAR BOX

See Figure 4.

The screwdriver has a two-speed gear box designed for LO or HI speeds. A slide switch is located on top of the screwdriver to select either LO or HI speed. When using screwdriver in the LO speed range, speed will decrease and unit will have more power and torque. When using screwdriver in the HI speed range, speed will increase and unit will have less power and torque. When drilling use 1/4 in. hex shank drill bits only. Maximum drill size is 1/4 in.

Use the HI speed setting to drill holes, and use the LO speed setting for driving screws.

TO LOAD/RELEASE BITS

See Figure 5.

The SPEEDLOAD +^TM SYSTEM on the screwdriver is a quick change chuck designed to accept any 1/4 in. hex bits. Insert the bit into the chuck and push as far as possible until the chuck locks onto the bit. To remove a bit, push rubber collar forward, and then pull the bit straight out of the chuck.

ADJUSTABLE TORQUE CLUTCH

This screwdriver is equipped with an adjustable torque clutch for driving different types of screws into different materials. The proper setting depends on the type of material and the size of screw you are using.

ADJUSTING TORQUE

See Figure 6.

There are twenty-four torque indicator settings located on the front of the screwdriver.

Select the gear selection setting to HI or LO speed.
Rotate the adjusting ring to the desired setting.

1 - 4For driving small screws (HI or LO speed)
5 - 8For driving screws into soft material (LO speed)
9 - 12For driving screws into soft and hard materials (LO speed)
13 - 16For driving screws in hard wood (LO speed)
17 - 24For driving large screws (LO speed)

OVERLOAD PROTECTION DEVICE

The tool has an overload protection device. The tool will stop if the spindle is locked for several seconds while the trigger is on. If this happens, release the trigger, then wait for a few seconds before you resume operation. To avoid this situation, do not force the tool.

LED WORKLIGHT

See Figure 7.

The screwdriver has a built-in LED worklight. This feature is convenient when working in close or tight areas where additional light is needed. Whenever the switch trigger is depressed, the LED worklight will illuminate.

NOTE: The LED worklight will go off when overload protection causes the tool to stop. The light will come on again when the trigger is depressed and operation resumes.

GARANTIE - CONDITIONS

The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured in accordance with a standardised test given in EN 60745 and may be used to compare one tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the tool. However if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period.

An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period. Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisation of work patterns.
