Maintenance and installation instructions - Rotary motion The term "power tool" in warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool. Tasks or actions which require a lock. Work area safety Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite to accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite dust or fumes. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Recommended by the manufacturer Further information see Page 26 Illustrated or described accessories are not necessarily included in the scope of delivery Technical modifications reserved Especially important note for safety. Always follow this note, otherwise it could result in severe injury. Warning of dangerous electrical voltage Electrical safety Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. BH-EN / 0907 14 English Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your EN body is grounded. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. Personal safety Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions and in the Safety rules manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. Service Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only original spare parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. Machine-specific Safety Warnings Wear hearing protection. The effects of noise can cause loss of hearing capacity. Use auxiliary handles supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury. Always assume a safe standing position and hold the power tool securely in both hands. When the drill unexpectedly jams, the machine kicks back. Hold the power tool only by the insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own power cord. Contact with a “live” wire will also make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and lead to electric shock. Secure the workpiece. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more secure than by hand. SiO2 Do not work on stone containing crystalline silica (SiO2). This will produce dust which is dangerous to your health. Do not work on materials containing asbestos. Asbestos is considered carcinogenic! Take protective measures if there is danger of formation of combustible or explosive dust during operation that can be hazardous to health. Example: Some dusts can be carcinogenic. Wear a dust mask and work with a dust/chip extraction unit, if possible to connect. English 15 The tool must only be used with the appropriate guards fitted. Always wait until the machine has come to a comEN plete stop before placing it down. The tool insert can jam and lead to loss of control over the power tool. During operation, always ensure that the mains and extension cable is to the rear away from the device. This prevents anyone from tripping over the cable while working. Move the switch to the "OFF" position before removing the plug from the plug socket. When the tool is reconnected to the mains accidental starting of the machine is avoided, thus reducing the risk of accidents. Tools not in use must be locked away safely in a dry place out of the reach of children. Use appropriate detectors to determine if utility lines are hidden in the work area or call the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric lines can lead to fire and electric shock. Damaging a gas line can lead to explosion. Penetrating a water line causes damage to property or electric shock. Switch the power tool off immediately if the tool insert gets jammed. Be prepared for high torque levels if the tool kicks back. The tool insert jams if:
the power tool becomes overloaded or
the tool tilts in the workpiece To mark the machine, do not drill into the housing. The protective insulation would be bridged. Use stickers. Never use the machine with a damaged cable. Do not touch the damaged cable and pull the mains plug when the cable gets damaged during operation. Damaged cables increase the risk of electric shock. BH-EN / 0907 16 English Residual risk. Although this information sheet and the operating manuals for our electrical tools contain extensive instructions on safe working with EN electrical tools, every electrical tool involves certain residual risks that cannot be completely prevented through safety mechanisms. Therefore, electrical tools must always be operated with the necessary caution. The On/Off switch V can be locked using the locking button VI. Release the On/Off switch V by pressing and releasing briefly. -NOTEAt low outside temperatures: The tool requires a minimum operating temperature before the hammer action will work. Switch on the tool, place briefly on the ground and run at idle speed. Repeat until the percussion starts. Select speed/impact rate (option) In devices with a setting dial IV you can select the speed using the setting dial IV depending on the area of application. Position "A" = lowest speed Position "G" = highest speed Changing the speed/impact rate The On/Off switch V can be used for infinitely variable speed control. Light pressure on the On/Off switch V causes the machine to rotate slowly; with increased pressure, the speed increases. BH-EN / 0907 Mechanical gear selection (option) The gear selection / rotation stop switch III can be used to select three settings. Low speed range: Hammer drilling, drilling with normal twist drills in wood/metal over 8 mm, and stirring tasks
High speed range: Drilling with normal twist drills up to 8 mm No rotational motion: Light chisel work The switchover can best be performed at standstill. Please note that the gear selection / rotation stop switch III can only be turned 1 level at a time. After the On/Off switch V has been actuated and the machine has started, the gearbox switches to the preselected setting. Only then can the gear selection / rotation stop switch III be turned to the next setting. Selecting the direction of rotation Operate the rotational direction switch VII only when the machine is at a standstill! Set the required direction of rotation. Clockwise rotation: For drilling and fixing screws. Anticlockwise rotation: For loosening and removing screws and nuts. Important: Press the rotational direction switch VII up to the stop on the housing, i. e. until it snaps in audibly. If the rotational direction switch VII is set between the positions "R” and "L”, the machine cannot be switched on. Selecting the modes of operation The operational mode switch II can be used to select the required settings. The switchover can be performed best at standstill. After the On/Off switch V has been actuated and the machine has started, the gearbox switches to the preselected setting. -NOTELeft rotation when impact drilling damages the drill. Switch off the impact mechanism for diamond EN crown drilling or for mixing work. When hammer drilling, only use drills with tungsten carbide inserts and SDS-Plus shafts. The use of commercially available rock drills with cylindrical shafts by means of the adapter 6 and a normal drill chuck in conjunction with the pneumatic impact mechanism is not possible. Drilling / Stirring Drilling / Stirring Adjusting the chisel Positioning the chisel The chisel can now be turned by hand to the required working position. The chisel latches automatically as soon as it is radially loaded by the working or chiselling process. -NOTEIn devices where the selection of the above symbol is not available, put the operational mode switch in an intermediate position. Chiselling Chiselling -NOTEIn some devices, the gear selector/rotation stop switch III must be used at this point. Please take note of the enclosed illustrations. Impact drilling Impact drilling BH-EN / 0907 Changing the tool Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures prevent accidental start of the power tool.
Wear safety gloves for tool changing. The tool insert can become very hot after working for long periods and/or the cutting edges of the tool insert are sharp. The dust protection cap 2 largely prevents the penetration of drilling dust during operation. When inserting the tool, take care that the dust protection cap 2 is not damaged. A damaged dust protection cap should be changed immediately. It is recommend to have this carried out by an after-sales service. The tool holder retains the drill bit or chiselling tool in a SDS-plus holder without additional equipment. Inserting the tool Clean and grease the tool shaft slightly. Retract the unlocking sleeve I. Insert the tool into the tool holder by turning it until it snaps into place. 1 Release the unlocking sleeve I. Check the interlock by pulling the tool. -NOTEIn devices with SDS-plus automatic interlocking, the unlocking sleeve must not be retracted when inserting the tool. Manual SDS-plus interlock SDS-plus automatic interlock Removing the tool Pull the unlocking sleeve I backwards and remove the tool. BH-EN / 0907 Operating tips Use auxiliary handles supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury. Always match the speed setting to the material concerned and the diameter of the drill bit. Hammer drilling - Chiselling Wear protective glasses and hearing protection. Do not apply too much pressure. The performance is not increased by doing so. The most effective method for chiselling is to break out only small pieces of material. Drilling in tiles Start drilling slowly on the tile. Only after the tile is drilled through, switch to hammer drilling. This prevents the tile from cracking. Drilling with diamond drill bits Set the operation mode switch II to drilling. -NOTESwitch the hammer action off when drilling with a diamond drill bit. Screws The screw adapter 6 (accessory) can hold screw bits. Commercially available bits with a hexagonal dimension of 6.3 mm or 1/4" (DIN 3126, Form C) can be used. The screw-bits are held in the adapter with a spring ring. Therefore, use only bits with a notch. Set the operation mode switch II to drilling. Tools and accessories English 21
5. Tools and accessories
For metal, use only flawless, sharpened drills; for stone and concrete, only rock drills with hard metal inserts. Sharpening the chisels Good results are only achieved with sharp chisels, therefore sharpen the chiselling tools in due time. This prolongs the service life of the tools and ensures good working performance. Sharpen chiselling tools with grinding wheels (e.g. ceramic bonded corundum wheel) with a steady supply of water. Standard values for this are shown in the illustrated instructions. Take care that no annealing colouration appears on the cutting edges, otherwise the hardness of the chiselling tools will be impaired. Use keyless drill chuck Drill bits with a cylindrical shaft are used for drilling in metal, wood and plastic. A keyless drill chuck (max. 13 mm clamping diameter) is available for this purpose. -NOTEThe keyless chuck is not suited for hammer drilling and chiselling. The drill chuck is mounted onto the carrier spindle of the screw adapter 6 or of the device. Changing the tool holder Before carrying out any work on the machine, pull the mains plug. All common drill chucks with 1/2" x 20 UNF internal threads (13 mm max. chuck opening) can be used. The drill chuck is mounted on the screw adapter 6 (accessories) for screw-bits. Inserting the drill chuck (accessory) Clean the thread on the drill chuck (accessory) and on the screw adapter 6 (accessory). Screw the drill chuck 7 onto the adapter 6. Set the rotation stop switch III or operation mode switch II temporarily to the chiselling function to allow you to tighten the drill chuck to a torque of 40 Nm. Removing the drill chuck Pull the unlocking sleeve I backwards and remove the drill chuck III with the screw adapter 6. If required, first screw the drill chuck 7 from the screw adapter 6. Changing quick-fit drill chuck system Before carrying out any work on the machine, pull the mains plug. Removing the tool holder Slide the drill chuck unlocking sleeve IX backwards and remove the tool holder 1 from the carrier spindle. Fitting the drill chuck Clean the carrier spindle 8. Pull the drill chuck unlocking sleeve IX backwards and guide the required drill chuck 7 onto the carrier spindle 8 while rotating. Release the unlocking sleeve I. Check that the drill chuck 7 is secure. Fitting the drill chuck (accessory) Retract the unlocking sleeve I. Insert the screw adapter 6 into the tool holder 1 while rotating. Release the unlocking sleeve. Check the interlock by pulling the screw adapter. -NOTEIn devices with SDS-plus automatic interlocking, the unlocking sleeve must not be retracted when inserting the tool. BH-EN / 0907
