General Power Tool SafetyWarnings

WARNING

Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow

the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1) Work area safety

a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) Electrical safety

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3) Personal safety

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

BOSCH PTK 3.6 V - 3) Personal safety - 1

English | 13

g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

4) Power tool use and care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be re-paired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

5) Battery tool use and care

a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
b) Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

6) Service

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

SafetyWarnings for Cordless Tackers

Always assume that the tool contains fasteners. Careless handling of the tacker can result in unexpected firing of fasteners and personal injury.
Do not point the tool towards yourself or anyone nearby. Unexpected triggering will discharge the fastener causing an injury.
- Do not actuate the tool unless the tool is placed firmly against the workpiece. If the tool is not in contact with the workpiece, the fastener may be deflected away from your target.
- Disconnect the tool from the power source when the fastener jams in the tool. While removing a jammed fastener, the tacker may be accidentally activated if it is plugged in.

BOSCH PTK 3.6 V - SafetyWarnings for Cordless Tackers - 1

BOSCH PTK 3.6 V - SafetyWarnings for Cordless Tackers - 2

SafetyWarnings forbatterychargers

BOSCH PTK 3.6 V - SafetyWarnings forbatterychargers - 1

Keep the battery charger away from rain or moisture. Penetration of water in the battery charger increases the risk of an electric shock.

Do not charge other batteries. The battery charger is suitable only for charging Bosch NiCd/NiMH batteries with the voltages listed in the technical data. Otherwise there is danger of fire and explosion.
- Keep the battery charger clean. Contamination can lead to danger of an electric shock.
Before each use, check the battery charger, cable and plug. If damage is detected, do not use the battery charger. Never open the battery charger yourself. Have repairs performed only by a qualified technician and only using original spare parts. Damaged battery chargers, cables and plugs increase the risk of an electric shock.

  • Do not operate the battery charger on easily inflammable surfaces (e.g., paper, textiles, etc.) or surroundings. The heating of the battery charger during the charging process can pose a fire hazard.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the battery charger.

Products sold in GB only: Your product is fitted with an BS 1363/A approved electric plug with internal fuse (ASTA approved to BS 1362).

If the plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place by an authorised customer service agent. The replacement plug should have the same fuse rating as the original plug.

The severed plug must be disposed of to avoid a possible shock hazard and should never be inserted into a mains socket elsewhere.

Products sold in AUS and NZ only: Use a residual current device (RCD) with a rated residual current of 30mA or less.

Assembly

Battery Charging (see figure A)

A battery that is new or has not been used for a longer period does not develop its full capacity until after approx. 5 charging/discharging cycles.

Do not recharge the batteries after use if they are not to be used for an extended period of time. Recharge the batteries as and when they are required.

To remove the battery 3, press the unlocking buttons 4 and pull the battery out of the machine to the rear. Do not exert any force.

Insert the battery 3 into the die battery charge cradle 7. Plug the plug connector for the charger 6 into the socket of the battery charge cradle 7.

The battery is equipped with a NTC temperature control which allows charging only within a temperature range of between 0^ and 45^ . A long battery service life is achieved in this manner.

A significantly reduced working period after charging indicates that the battery is used and must be replaced.

Observe the notes for disposal.

Loading the Magazine (see figure B-C)

Before any work on the power tool, remove the battery.
- Use only original Bosch accessories. The precision components of the tacker, such as magazine, striker and impact channel, are adapted for Bosch staples, nails or pins. Other manufacturers use different steel qualities and measures.
Press the latching lever 11 and keep it depressed.
Pull out the magazine 10. You can only take out the magazine 10 when the protective cap 12 is mounted onto the tacker head 5, the open side oriented to the back, as shown in the picture.

Insert the staple strip 9 or the nail strip 8. Hold the tacker slightly inclined while inserting the nail strip 8 so that nails rest against the side wall.
Slide the magazine 10 against the tacker head 5 to the stop and press the latching lever 11 until it engages.

Operation

Starting Operation

Inserting the Battery

Insert the charged battery 3 into the handle until it can be felt to engage and faces flush against the handle.

Switching On and Off

At first, firmly place the tacker head 5 against the workpiece until it is pushed in a few millimeters. Afterwards, briefly press the trigger 2 and then release again.

The trigger lock, which is connected with the movable tacker head 5, prevents unintentional shot actuation when the trigger 2 is inadvertently pressed.

Hammer-force Preselection

With the thumbwheel for hammer-force preselection 1, it is possible to preselect the required hammer force in steps.

The required hammer force depends on the length of the staples or nails, and on the strength of the material. The optimal hammer-force setting is best determined through practical testing.

BOSCH PTK 3.6 V - Hammer-force Preselection - 1

BOSCH PTK 3.6 V - Hammer-force Preselection - 2

Working Advice

This machine is not suitable for working with 19mm staples. Therefore, do not use the machine to fasten ceiling panelling with profiled wood or grooves.

Avoid blank shots in order to reduce the wear of the impact striker. After finishing your work, set the hammer force with the thumbwheel for hammer-force preselection 1 to a low value, in order to relieve the tension spring.

Removable Protective Cap for Tacker Head (see figure C)

When working sensitive surfaces, e. g., foils, attach the removable protective cap 12 onto the tacker head 5.

Maintenance and Service

Maintenance and Cleaning

Before any work on the power tool, remove the battery.
For safe and proper working, always keep the machine and ventilation slots clean.

If the machine should fail despite the care taken in manufacturing and testing procedures, repair should be carried out by an after-sales service centre for Bosch power tools.

In all correspondence and spare parts order, please always include the 10-digit article number given on the type plate of the machine.
