COMPONENTI - COMPONENTS

LAICA water filtration system is projected and manufactured to treat drinking water. It improves the taste of the water through the reduction of chlorine and disinfection by-products. All LAICA filter cartridges are made in Italy and processed by sterilization. LAICA filter cartridges contain silver-impregnated active carbon and ion exchange resins. Active carbons are effective for the reduction of chlorine and disinfection by-products. Ion exchange resins are effective for the reduction of heavy metals whenever present in drinking water. For information on your tap water, contact Municipalities. CAUTION: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality (check with the competent authority in your area).

PREPARATION OF THE FILTER CARTRIDGE
1) Before proceeding with the following operations wash hands thoroughly.
2) Remove the cartridge from the bag (fig.A).
3) Soak the cartridge in a container full of cold water for approximately 15 minutes (fig.B). Shake the cartridge to release the air it contains.
4) Insert the cartridge into the hopper pressing slightly to ensure correct insertion (fig.C).
5) Fill the hopper with cold mains water up to the top level of the same and allow filtering without closing the lid (fig.D).
6) Discard the water filtered in the previous section (or use it to water your plants).
7) Repeat this operation (sections 5 and 6) 3 times.
ACTIVATION OF THE CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT INDICATOR
1 Water filter with removable trapezoidal electronic indicator
Remov the lid from the jug and check that the magnet is on the underside of the lid (see fig.G). Turning the lid over, remove the electronic indicator onto the back of your hand with a smart tap (see fig.H). Press the "O/I" key for a few seconds until the 4 black bars, each of which corresponds to a period of one week, stabilise on the electronic indicator (fig.1a). Insert the electronic indicator into the lid: 3 consecutive flashes of the same bars confirm activation of the electronic indicator. The electronic indicator indicates that the total filtering capacity is 75% (fig.1b). The electronic indicator indicates that the total filtering capacity is 25% (fig.1c). When it is time to replace the cartridge, the following symbol appears on the display: "▼(fig.1d).
CAUTION: in the electronic counters, at the end of the cartridge life, the display flashes until switching off in order to avoid battery consumption. When replacing the filter cartridge, reactivate the display as shown in the section "ACTIVATION OF THE CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT INDICATOR".
2 Water filter with manual indicator
Turn the cartridge replacement indicator located on the back of the lid in a clockwise direction as indicated in figure 2a in order to set the use start month for the cartridge.
The month of reference must be aligned with the arrow printed on the lid. If you have purchased a water filter with a mechanical trapezoidal indicator (figure 2b), turn the cartridge replacement indicator located in the upper part of the lid in a clockwise direction in order to set the start month for the cartridge.
USING THE WATER FILTER
• Water filter with automatic fill device
Place the jug under the tap so that the water jet directly enters the hopper through the opening in the lid. Turn on the tap (the pressure of the water jet should not be too strong in order to avoid splashes): the water automatically opens the automatic filling device and directly enters the hopper. (fig.E1). Fill the hopper to the top with cold tap water. When the hopper is almost full the automatic filling device gradually closes: reduce the water flow and shut off the tap when the device closes (fig.E2).
It is in any case recommended to check the water level in the hopper from one side of the jug.
• Water filter without automatic filling device.
Fill the hopper with the first litre of water (fig.E3) and close the lid. Wait for the water to be filtered; when the operation is completed, it is possible to use the filtered water or to refill the hopper; in this case you will have 2 litres of water available.
Your jug is now ready for use.
To ensure optimum performance it is recommended not to filter more than 5 litres a day (taking care to wait some minutes between the filtrations). The filtering cartridge should be replaced every 150 litres/30 filtration days (maximum product efficiency and safety is assured when this instruction is observed).
FILTER CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT
For replacement of the cartridge remove it from the hopper pulling it upwards as shown in fig.F and repeat the operations as indicated in the sections "PREPARATION OF THE FILTER CARTRIDGE" and "ACTIVATION OF THE CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT INDICATOR".
BATTERY INSERTION/REPLACEMENT
For jugs with removable rectangular electronic indicator and removable trapezoidal electronic indicator it is possible to replace the battery. Check for the presence of the battery compartment lid on the bottom of the indicator (fig.l).
The electronic indicator works with a 1.5V LR44 type alkaline battery. Replace the battery when the numbers or the bars on the display are not perfectly legible. Make sure your hands are dry when you perform this operation.
1) Open the battery compartment located on the bottom of the appliance by unscrewing the lid counter-clockwise. Facilitate this action by using a small coin.
2) Remove the flat battery.
3) Insert the new battery ensuring correct positioning of the polarities (positive pole facing upwards).
4) Replace the lid on the battery compartment. During this operation, be sure to correctly position the sealing gasket in the event it has been moved or removed during opening of the lid and removal of the batteries (Fig. I).
5) Close the lid by screwing it with a small coin clockwise. Remove the battery where the appliance is not being used for long periods of time. Remove the battery as described in sections 1 and 2. Remove the battery and dispose of as special waste at suitable collection points for recycling. For further information concerning the disposal of batteries
contact the shop where the appliance containing batteries was purchased, the local council or the local waste disposal service.
Attention: For added safety, it is advisable to remove the batteries in the presence of children under the age of 12.

IMPORTANT NOTES
1) In the case of emergency situations reported by the competent authorities suspend use of the water filter and contact the water mains operator for further information.
2) Under no circumstances break the cartridge.
3) The LAICA filter system ensures effective bacteriostatic protection due to the silver used. Any release of silver is in conformity with the guidelines set out by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
4) The filter system may slightly increase the sodium content with respect to water before treatment.
In any case the variation is minimal and is considerably lower than the maximum value of the parameter.
5) The filter system may slightly vary the inlet water hardness. In the first few litres filtered, the LAICA cartridge may lower the water hardness.
6) LAICA invites you to carry out a preventive assessment of the local mains water in order to ensure conscious use of the filtration system.
PROBLEMS
The water flow slows down until stopping
1) The filtering cartridge has not been properly activated. Repeat the procedure described in the section "PREPARATION OF THE FILTERING CARTRIDGE".
2) Air bubbles may build up inside the filtering cartridge thus hindering the normal water flow. Remove the filter, immerse it in water letting the air bubbles escape, allow it to drip and then insert it again into the hopper
Presence of dark residues inside the jug
1) The vegetable carbon contained in the filter may release a certain amount of fine powder (which is in no way noxious) Repeat the procedure described in the section "ACTIVATION OF THE FILTERING CARTRIDGE".
The electronic indicator does not switch on
1) The electronic indicator has not been properly activated. Repeat the procedure described in the section "ACTIVATION OF THE CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT INDICATOR".
2) The battery is flat. Proceed to replace the battery as described in section "Battery replacement/insertion". In case of doubt concerning the activation time of the last filtering cartridge, replace it with a new one.
