USER MANUAL Lumi Lamp LANAFORM
Thank you for choosing the Lanaform® Lumi Lamp. This device will help you combat tiredness, apathy and the lack of energy often felt in autumn and winter when it’s grey and the days get shorter. These symptoms are the expression of what is referred to as the winter blues. The Lumi Lamp is based on the use of very bright light that simulates natural sunlight. The light produced by the Lumi Lamp re-establishes the essential light signals naturally so that you feel happy and full of energy. With its technology and broad light distribution (approximately 10,000 Lux at 10cm), the Lumi Lamp will help quickly help you rediscover energy and vitality. You may use the Lumi Lamp while carrying on with other activities, such as reading, writing, using the telephone and even when working. LIGHT EXPOSURE Light and its intensity have an enormous impact on our body’s life processes. During the autumn and winter, the sun’s rays diminish. Conventional articial lighting of buildings is not in itself capable of compensating for this shortage of natural light. The consequences of this reduction in luminosity may lead to a lack of drive and energy, insomnia or melancholy, to problems with concentration and diculty getting up in the morning. These are symptoms grouped together under the term “seasonal aective disorder or winter blues”. Many health professionals agree about the benets of exposure to bright light for treating the winter blues. By bright light, they mean daylight of a certain intensity. In winter, the intensity of the light never exceeds 2500 Lux*, whereas in summer it can reach 100,000 Lux* on a beautiful summer’s day. LANAFORM® has therefore developed this specic light device so that you can benet from the amount of light you need to chase away the winter blues. Use of the Lumi Lamp by LANAFORM® is medically proven for treating the symptoms of seasonal aective disorder. Exposure to light consists of using light with a strong Lux* coecient in order to simulate the sun’s natural light. The symptoms of the winter blues can be reduced, and even disappear, through regular exposure to light with a strong Lux coecient during a given period.
- The Lux is the unit measuring the luminance of light. - The Lumi Lamp should be used preferably during the day and not in the evening. Installation: 1.Place your Lumi Lamp on a solid, at and stable surface. 2.Your face should be between 15 and 30cm away from the Lumi Lamp. 3.Plug the power cable into a socket corresponding to the product’s rating plate. - Make sure that the socket is near the Lumi Lamp. - Lay out the power cable so that no-one trips over it. - To prevent any risk of strangulation, keep the cable out of the reach of young children. Use:
- You can switch on the Lumi Lamp using the (On/O) button.
- The recommended exposure time to the Lumi Lamp depends on the distance from the lamp and the light intensity selected. The general advice, however, is that the device should be used for 1 hour at a light intensity of 5000 Lux. You can therefore easily calculate the recommended exposure time from the table below: Distance Lux Exposure time 10cm 10,000 +/- 30 mins. 15cm 5,700 +/- 1hr 25cm 2,600 +/- 2 hrs
- Sit down in front of the device. o The distance between your face and the screen should be between 15 and 50cm. Adjust as required and so that your eyes are comfortable. o You are not obliged to sit directly opposite the device. o You can space out the length of your light therapy session.
- Exposure must be regular for a prolonged period. Throughout the darkest days of the year, repeat the therapy for at least 7 consecutive days and more, according to individual requirements. - The light tube is at full power after a few minutes. - Stop the machine after use by turning the button to the “0” position on the front of the device and unplug it. Wait for 10 minutes before replacing the product in its package. - If, during the exposure to light session, your eyes ache or you feel any other pain, stop using the Lumi Lamp immediately and consult your doctor. - Do not look at the lamp directly. You can read, write, make telephone calls etc. during the session.
- Unplug the device and allow it to cool down.
- Use a damp cloth or sponge to clean the outer surface of the lamp.
- Never use scrubbing brushes, abrasive products or aggressive detergents such as acetone or spirit to clean the device. Storage:
- Store your unit in a safe, dry place out of the reach of children.
Apart from the tube, the device does not contain any other part that needs to be replaced. The tube has a service life of approximately 8,000 hours (corresponding to several years of normal use). The tube must be replaced with a similar tube. To replace the tube, please follow the instructions below: - Using a screwdriver (not supplied), unscrew the screw on the product’s base and then remove the reector cover as shown on the diagram (Fig. 2.) - Then unscrew the tube as shown on the diagram (Fig. 3). - Once the tube has been replaced, replace the reector cover and the screw before using the Lumi Lamp again.
