Frequently Asked Questions - ASC 15 METABO

What types of batteries can I charge with the Metabo ASC 15 charger?

The ASC 15 charger is designed to charge original Metabo and CAS (Cordless Alliance System) Li-Ion batteries with a voltage of 12 V to 36 V and a capacity of 1.3 Ah to 10 Ah (3-10 cells). Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.

How do I know if the battery is fully charged?

Once the battery is inserted, the control indicator (3) flashes during charging. When charging is complete, the indicator lights up continuously. The charger automatically switches to maintenance mode to keep the battery ready for use.

What should I do if the warning indicator (4) flashes?

A flashing warning indicator indicates a defective or incorrectly inserted battery. Immediately remove the battery from the charger and check its condition. Make sure it is properly pushed into the sliding compartment.

Can I leave the battery on the charger after charging?

Yes, the charger automatically switches to maintenance mode. The battery can remain on the charger safely; it will be kept at full charge and ready for use at any time.

What safety precautions should I observe?

Read the instructions carefully. Use the charger only indoors, away from moisture. Do not cover the ventilation slots, maintain a distance of at least 5 cm from other objects. Disconnect immediately in case of smoke or fire.

Does the charger get hot during use?

Slight warmth is normal. If the charger becomes too hot, the warning indicator (4) may light up or flash. In that case, let it cool down in a well-ventilated area. The charger will automatically reduce the charging power if necessary.

How do I clean the charger?

Always unplug the charger before cleaning. Use a dry, soft cloth. Never use liquids or abrasive products that could penetrate the device.

Where can I find spare parts or get my charger repaired?

Repairs must be carried out only by an authorized specialist. Contact your Metabo representative or visit www.metabo.com to find an after-sales service.

Is the ASC 15 charger compatible with NiCd batteries?

No, the ASC 15 model is designed only for Li-Ion batteries. For NiCd batteries, refer to the ASC 55 model (see manual). Never attempt to charge incompatible batteries.

How do I dispose of the charger at the end of its life?

Do not dispose of the charger with household waste. In accordance with the WEEE directive, take it to a designated collection point (store, recycling center) for recycling. Visit www.quefairedemesdechets.fr.

2. Specified Conditions of Use

Chargers are only suitable for charging original Metabo and CAS (Cordless Alliance System) battery packs.

This device is not designed for use by persons (including children) with physical, sensory or mental disabilities, or with insufficient experience and/or knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety, or have received instructions on how to use the device by this person.

ASC 290 is suitable for charging Li-Ion battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells). The device is suitable for charging electronic devices with a USB-C interface (like smartphones, MP3 players, tablets, etc.) - no data exchange

ASC 145 is suitable for charging Li-Ion battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

ASC 55 is suitable for charging Li-Ion battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

ASC 55 is suitable for charging NiCd battery packs (12 V, 1.7 Ah, 10 cells).

SC 30 is suitable for charging Li-lon battery packs (12 V - 18 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

Never attempt to charge batteries that are not rechargeable. Danger of explosion!

The user bears sole responsibility for any damage caused by inappropriate use.

Generally accepted accident-prevention regulations and accompanying safety instructions should be observed.

3. General Safety Information

4. Special Safety Instructions

For your own protection and for the protection of your power tool, pay attention to all parts of the text that are marked with this symbol!

Danger - electrical voltage!

A slightly acidic, flammable fluid may leak from defective Li-ion battery packs!

If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your eyes, wash them with clean water and seek medical attention immediately! Do not recharge a fully charged battery pack!

Only for use in indoor rooms.

In areas with high metal dust exposure do not charge any battery packs with AIR COOLED chargers.

6. Initial Operation

Before commissioning, check that the rated mains voltage and mains frequency stated on the type plate match your power supply.

Devices like these that generate direct current can influence simple earth leakage protection devices.

Use a type F or better, with a release current of max. 30 mA.

Before commissioning the charger, ensure that the air slots are free. Minimum distance to other objects is 5 cm!

6.1 Self-test

Plug in.

The warning display (4) and the operating indicator (3) light up one after the other for approx. 1 second and the installed fan runs for approx. 5 seconds.

7. Use

7.1 Charging battery pack

Push the battery pack completely to the stop on the sliding seat (2).

The operating indicator (3) flashes.

Note: To have the charge level displayed on Li-ion battery packs, first take the battery pack out of the charger and then press the button on the battery pack.

7.2 Conservation charge

Once the charging process has finished, the battery charger automatically switches to conservation mode.

The battery pack can remain in the battery charger and is therefore always ready for use.

The operating display (3) lights up continuously.

7.3 ASC 290 only: Charge USB device

Only connect USB devices which are compatible with the USB standard. Using

incompatible devices can lead to malfunctions, damage or injuries.

Open the cover (6) and plug a USB device with a suitable cable into the USB-C port (7). The device is charged.

The USB-C port (7) is only supplied with voltage (LED indicator (8) illuminated) if no battery pack is charged.

If a battery pack and USB device are connected at the same time, the USB charging process will start automatically after the end of the battery pack charging process.

8. Faults

8.1 Warning display (4) lights up continuously

Battery pack is not charged. Excessive/insufficient temperature. When the temperature of the battery

pack is between 0 °C and 50 °C, the charging process begins automatically.

ASC 290: Warning display (4) lights up continuously and charge status indicator (5) flashes: Charger is hot, battery pack is charged with reduced charging capacity.

8.2 Warning display (4) flashes

• Battery pack is defective. Remove the battery pack immediately from the charger.
• The battery pack was not pushed correctly onto the sliding seat (2). See chapter 7.1.
• ASC 290: Warning display (4) lights up and charge status indicator (5) is off: battery pack is not charged. charger too hot.

9. Repairs

Repairs to the charger must only be carried out by qualified electricians.

If the mains connection cable of this device is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or the Customer Service department of the manufacturer or a similarly qualified person to prevent endangering personnel and property.

10. Environmental Protection

Observe national regulations on environmentally compatible disposal and on the recycling of disused machines, packaging and accessories.

Packaging materials must be disposed of according to their labelling in accordance with municipal guidelines. Further information can be found at www.metabo.com in the “Service” section.
