- **To check the drawbar load, measure the weight at the end of the bicycle arm while the trailer is loaded with passengers and cargo. You can measure by standing on a scale, remember your own weight. Stand on the scale with the bicycle arm in your hands. Make sure that your hold the bicycle arm at the correct height. Deduct your own weight and the result is the drawbar load.

WaRninGS

• Important – Keep these instructions for future reference
• This product complies to the European standards for child bicycle trailers and strollers (EN 15918, EN 1888).
  • This seat unit is not suitable for children under 6 months.
• This seat unit is not suitable for children that can not sit without assistance or do not have adequate neck strength. Please check with a pediatrician if you are in doubt.
• Do not use with children who exceed the weight limitations.
  • Never leave your child unattended.
• Avoid serious injury from falling or sliding out. Always use the restraint system.
  • Passengers should always wear a properly fitted and approved helmet.
  • In the US, see CPSC Safety standard for bicycle helmets.
  • Towing a trailer will affect the stability of the bicycle and increases the braking distance.
• This trailer is wider than a bicycle. Allow for extra clearance and be aware of a larger turning circle.
• Before each ride, ensure the attached trailer does not interfere with braking, pedaling, or steering of the bicycle.
• Do not allow the child's body or any clothing, shoe laces or toys to come in contact with moving parts.
• Do not install a car seat or any other seating device not approved by the manufacturer.
  • Make no modifications to the trailer.
• Never ride a bicycle at night without adequate lighting. Obey all local legal requirements for lighting.
  • A reflector that complies with CPSC regulations shall be visible on the rear of the trailer.
• Check tyre pressure before use. Always inflate tyres to the inflation level specified on the outer tyres.
• Do not use cleaning solvents. Clean only with mild soap and water.
• Failure to comply with the manufacturer's instructions can lead to serious injury or death of the passenger/rider.
  • Do not let your child play with this product.
  • Ensure that all the locking devices are engaged before use.
• Ensure the parking brake is engaged when loading and unloading your children.
  • To avoid injury ensure that your child is kept away when unfolding and folding this product.
  • This product is not suitable for running or skating.
• Do not use any accessories which are not approved by the manufacturer.
• Only replacement parts supplied or recommended by the manufacturer/distributor shall be used.
• Be aware of exposure hazards such as wind chill and heat exhaustion, either by less-active trailer passengers in prolonged exposure in colder temperatures, or by extended periods in warmer temperatures without adequate ventilation or hydration.
• Unintended use could lead to dangerous situations. Hamax is not liable for any damages caused by unintended use. Any unintended use is at the risk of the user.
• Close the front cover when using the bicycle trailer.
• Do not attach any load to the push bar as it will affect the stability of the trailer.
• Do not store luggage in areas inside or outside the trailer other than in the luggage compartment as it affects the stability of the trailer.

Bicycle safety

Before connecting the bicycle trailer to your bicycle, ensure your bicycle is suitable for towing a trailer and is equipped with well functioning brakes. It is recommended that the bicycle used to tow the trailer undergoes a safety check by a qualified bicycle mechanic before attaching the trailer. Bicycle trailers pulled by an EPAC can be restricted by law.

Riding behavior

When towing a trailer, your bicycle behaves heavier and less responsive due to the added weight. Familiarize yourself with this behavior by practicing with a loaded trailer in a quiet area before entering crowded public roads with passengers.

Be aware that due to the weight of the trailer, your bicycle has a longer braking distance. Use caution when driving downhill, as your bicycle will gain speed more rapidly.

Do not exceed the maximum speed specified in this manual and slow down when making turns and on rough roads. Avoid riding over rocks, curbs or other obstacles that may cause the trailer to tip over. Using the trailer in unfavorable weather, road or traffic conditions can result in unsafe situations. Always use good judgement when deciding if conditions are safe to use the trailer.

High visibility

For optimal visibility and safety in traffic, the multifunctional carrier has front (white), rear (red) and wheel (orange) reflectors.

Reflective piping is integrated in the outer fabric. When using the carrier as a bicycle trailer, you also need to apply the orange safety flag for even better visibility [8].

Intended use

• the trailer is intended for transportation of children as specified in this manual on public roads with light traffic, sidewalks and smooth paths. Hamax considers using the trailer in any other way as unintended use, including but not limited to:
  • riding with excessive speed
  • riding on rough off-road conditions
  • using the trailer for commercial purposes
  • transporting animals
  • storing luggage in areas inside or outside the trailer other than in the trailer's luggage compartment
  • towing the trailer by motorized vehicles
  • failing to comply with the instructions in this manual

[3] Attaching the hitch on your bicycle

• Remove quick-release or nut [3a] from the left side of your bicycle's rear wheel axle. Place hitch [3b] between quick-release or nut and frame. Put the quick-release or nut back on and tighten according to the bicycle manufacturer's instructions.
• Point the hitch to the rear. Keep the alignment / angle between hitch and bicycle arm as straight as possible.

[4] Fold down the wheel guards

- Simultaneously push the wheel guard to the front of the trailer and fold it down until it locks into place [4a].

[5] Unfolding the trailer

• Pull the push bar [2a] to bring the top frame up. Be careful the fabrics do not get stuck on the upcoming frame parts.
- Bring the tubes together until the folding locks [5a] hook the tube at the rear of the frame.
- Verify that the folding mechanism is locked by trying to push it back down.
• Always lock the push bar before using the trailer [12].

[6] Folding the trailer

• Ensure that the push bar is unlocked [12].
• Push both folding locks [6a] up until the tube with the push bar release handle [2i] is released from the hooks.
  • Gently push the top frame down into its folded position and fold the fabrics into the trailer.

[7] Mounting the quick release wheels

- Ensure that the parking brake is not engaged [2f] and that the wheel axle [7a] is clean.

- Press the push button [7b] and insert the wheel axle into the socket. Verify that the wheel is securely fastened by pulling the wheel.

[8] Mounting the safety flag

- Put the flag pole [8a] in a socket in the hinge of the push bar. There are 2 sockets [8b] on each side so you can have the push bar stay up or store it in the luggage compartment. Place the flag pole on the side of the bicycle trailer that is most exposed to the road.

[9] Using the stroller wheel

• To attach: Push the button [9a] and slide the pin of the stroller wheel [1e] into the stroller wheel connection [2e]. Release the button. Pull on the stroller wheel to verify a secure connection.
  • To remove: Push the button [9a] to unlock and pull the stroller wheel [1e] out of the front connection [2e].

[10] Attaching the bicycle arm to the trailer

• Rotate the locking pin [10a] and remove it from the bicycle arm attachment [10b].
  • Gently slide the bicycle arm [10c] into the bicycle arm attachment.
• Insert the locking pin all the way through. Rotate the locking pin to secure it with the clip. Pull on the bicycle arm to verify a good connection.

[11] Attaching the bicycle arm to the bicycle

• Securely attach draw bar & safety strap prior to use. Ensure that the trailer is unloaded when attaching & disconnecting it to/from your bicycle.
• Slide the bicycle arm onto the hitch [11a]. Insert the retaining pin [11b] through the hole in bicycle arm and close it. Verify that the bicycle arm is securely fixed by pulling the bicycle arm. Wrap safety strap around bike frame and fasten hook to triangular plate [11c].
  • Make sure that you put the safety strap around the chain stay [11d] or seat stay [11e] of your bicycle frame.

tip: When you are not using the bicycle arm you can store it in the trailer

tip: When the safety strap is too long you can wrap it twice around the frame to ensure that the strap does not interfere with any moving part of the rear wheel.

[12] Adjusting the push bar [2a]

• Rotate the push bar handle [2i] upwards to unlock the push bar [2a].
• Move the push bar to the desired position.
• Turn the push bar handle downwards until you feel it lock into its end position. Check if the pushbar is well locked by pushing it down.
• When cycling it is recommended to store the push bar inside the trailer. Do not forget to lock the push bar [2i].

[13] Using the parking brake

• To engage: Rotate the parking brake lever [13a] upwards until the button [13b] pops out and the lever is locked. You may need to move the trailer slightly back and forth for the brake pin near the wheel to find its hole. Always be sure to check if the brake is engaged by pushing the trailer.
  • To disengage: Press the release button [13b] and rotate the lever [13a] down.

[14] Front covers and shades

• The Avenida has 3 front covers: a plastic cover [14a], a mesh cover [14b] and an additional sun shade [14d]. The plastic and mesh cover can be fixed on top with plastic buttons on the sides and at the bottom using the hooks just above the frame [14c].
• To fix the sunshade use the velcro pieces [14e]: 4 for short or 6 for full length. To shorten the sunshade [14d], fold it and fix the bottom velcro pieces to the top velcro pieces [14f].
• When not in use, the covers can be stored in the pocket [14g]. Close the pocket using the buttons to prevent the covers from falling out during a ride.

[15] 5-point safety harness

• Seat your child and guide the arms through the opening between the shoulder [15a] and waist belt [15b]. Check that the shoulder straps are aligned with your child's shoulders. Adjust the height by sliding the buckles [15e] above the headrest up or down.
• Connect the two shoulder strap buckles together and insert them into the center buckle [15c] on the crotch strap [15d] until you feel it snap. Reduce the length of the crotch strap and the shoulder belts so that your child is securely tightened. Verify that the safety harness is locked by pulling both shoulder belts.

[16] Mounting the lights

• Place the lights on the side of the trailer that is most exposed to the road.
• Front: Attach the white light on the frame through the opening in the fabric.
• Rear: Attach the red light on the frame through the opening in the fabric.

note: lights can be purchased at your bicycle specialist store. Make sure they comply with the lighting regulations in your country.

CaRe and Maintenance

Check before using the trailer

• The wheels are properly secured to the trailer.
• The tires are inflated according the specified tire pressure
• The trailer is completely unfolded and the mechanism is locked on both sides. Do not forget to lock the push bar.
• The seat back rest is well secured and tightened. Please see the maintenance section.
• The safety flag and lights are in place whenever required.

Storage

- It is highly recommended to store the Avenida trailer indoors, in a dry and well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight.

tip: There is a Hamox storage cover available for better protection.

Maintenance

• Push bar: In case the push bar slips from its position, tighten the nut [17] under the fabric of the push bar. Make sure the nuts are tightened equally on both sides.
• Parking brake [2f]: When disengaging, the tension in the brake cable should bring the brake lever down. If the brake does not engage on both wheels or does not disengage as described, you need to adjust the parking brake cable using the nut adjuster [18] at the cable splitter at the back of the seat and/or the nut adjusters at the wheel sides.
  • The Avenida bicycle trailer has a replaceable front cover that is attached with velcro in the pocket above the front opening.
• Stroller wheel connection[2e]; If there is dirt inside the stroller wheel connection[2e], rinse it with water.
• Seat base back rest [2j]. For a comfortable and safe seat, regularly tighten the straps [19] at the rear of the seat back rest. Make sure that you start to tighten it at the top and follow by tightening it at the bottom.
• Do not use cleaning solvents. Clean only with mild soap and water.
• The seat paddings [2d] can be removed from the trailer for cleaning purposes. Wash seating by hand or using cold machine wash with a short spin cycle.
• Allow the trailer to dry completely before storing it to prevent it from becoming moldy.
  • If the trailer is involved in an accident or is damaged, contact your dealer to check if it can still be used.

WaRRantY

The Hamax Avenida Multifunctional Child Carrier is warranted from the date of purchase. The warranty period depends on the law of the country in question. The warranty applies to defects in materials or workmanship, and does not cover damage due to improper use, lack of maintenance, failure to follow the user manual, use of force or normal wear and tear. The warranty is valid for the original user only. Please read the use and maintenance recommendations carefully. Conditions that may cause premature wear of the carrier may not be covered by the warranty. Should the carrier require service or you want to make a warranty claim, please contact your local dealer from whom you purchased your carrier.
