Hence, for optimum function, make sure the battery exhibits the same temperature as the environment. z Using the device z Connection PLEASE NOTE: Always observe the instructions from the vehicle manufacturer or the battery manufacturer. Disconnect the negative pole connection cable (black) of the vehicle from the negative pole of the battery first before charging and trickle charging if the battery is continually connected in the vehicle. The negative pole of your battery is usually connected to the car body of the vehicle. Then disconnect the positive pole connection cable (red) of the vehicle from the positive pole of the battery. Only then should you connect the “+” pole quick-contact connection terminal (red)
of the car & motorcycle battery charger to the “+” pole of the battery. Connect the ”–” pole quick contact-connection terminal (black)
to the “–”-pole of the battery. Connect the mains cable
of the car & motorcycle battery charger
to the socket. If the output terminals are connected in reverse, then the reverse polarity symbol
lights up. z Disconnecting Disconnect the device from the mains current. Disconnect the “–” pole quick-contact connection terminal (black)
from the “–” pole of the battery. Disconnect the “+” pole quick contact-connection terminal (red)
from the “+” pole of the battery. Reconnect the positive pole connection cable of the battery to the positive pole of the battery. 497453_2204_Kfz-Ladegerat ULGD 5_0 D2_content_LB8.indb 15497453_2204_Kfz-Ladegerat ULGD 5_0 D2_content_LB8.indb 15 27.06.22 11:1327.06.22 11:1316 GB/IE/NI/CY/MT Reconnect the negative pole connection cable of the battery to the negative pole of the battery. z Standby / Measuring battery voltage After connecting the mains supply, the device is in standby mode. The Standby symbol
lights up. When the connection terminals are connected, the battery voltage is displayed on the LC display (voltage display
are empty. If the measured voltage is below 3.8 V or above 15 V, then this means the battery is not charging. The error message “Err” will be shown briefly in the display. The device switches to standby. z 6 V batteries If a battery is measured in the voltage range 3.7–7.3 V, then you can only select Program 1. z 12 V batteries If a battery is identified as being in the critical voltage range from 7.3–10.5 V, then the device will check whether it is a fully-charged 6 V battery or a discharged 12 V battery. Press the program selector button
to select a program. The device carries out a test measurement procedure for approx. 90 seconds. The display will show: If after approx. 90 seconds, the identified value is between 7.3–7.5 V, then the 12 V is defective. The device switches to standby. z Revival If after approx. 90 seconds, the identified value is between 7.5–10.5 V, then a 12 V battery is present. The charging process starts with pulse operation for revival of the battery. The voltage display
10.5 V is reached, the device switches to further charging levels. The
revival procedure is identical for all 12 V charging programs. z Selecting programs Please note: If a battery is identified in the voltage range of 3.7–7.3 V, then programs 2–3–4 cannot be selected. The charging process continues automatically. Depending on the program selected, the charging characteristics for voltage, time and temperature are monitored. With diagnosis program, revival mode and trickle charging. 497453_2204_Kfz-Ladegerat ULGD 5_0 D2_content_LB8.indb 16497453_2204_Kfz-Ladegerat ULGD 5_0 D2_content_LB8.indb 16 27.06.22 11:1327.06.22 11:13GB/IE/NI/CY/MT

The flashing stops and the device switches to trickle charging automatically. 497453_2204_Kfz-Ladegerat ULGD 5_0 D2_content_LB8.indb 17497453_2204_Kfz-Ladegerat ULGD 5_0 D2_content_LB8.indb 17 27.06.22 11:1327.06.22 11:1318 GB/IE/NI/CY/MT Trickle charging As described in “Selecting programs”, the device has an automatic trickle charging procedure. Depending on the drop in voltage in the battery – through self-discharge – the charger reacts with different levels of charging current. The battery can remain connected to the charger over a longer period of time. If the battery voltage decreases too much, then a new charging process will start. Device protection function As soon as a different situation occurs, such as a short circuit, critical drop in voltage during the charging process, open circuit or reversed connection of the output terminals, the battery charger
switches off automatically. The electronic system resets the system immediately to its home position, in order to avoid damage. If the device should become too hot during charging, the output power is automatically reduced. This protects the device from damage. z Maintenance and care Always pull the mains cable
from the socket before you perform any work on the car & motorcycle battery charger
The device is maintenance-free. Deactivate the device. Clean the metal and plastic surfaces of the device with a dry cloth. Never use any solvents or other aggressive cleaning agents. z Information about recycling and disposal DO NOT DISPOSE OF ELECTRICAL TOOLS IN HOUSE- HOLD WASTE! DON’T THROW AWAY – RECYCLE! According to European Directive 2012/19/EU, used electrical devices must be collected separately for environmentally compatible recy- cling or recovery. Electrical and electronic devices which have become waste are called old devices. Owners of old devices are obliged to place them in a collection which is separate from unsorted municipal waste. Owners of old devices have old batteries and old rechargeable battery packs, which are not enclosed by the old device, as well as bulbs which must be separated from the device before it is handed in at a collection point. This does not apply if the old devices are handed in to public waste disposal authorities and they are separated from other old devices there for the purposes of preparation for recycling. If you are unsure, please contact an independent specialist. Owners of old devices from private households can hand these in to collection points for public waste disposal authorities or collection points which have been set up by manufacturers or distributors in line with the ElektroG (German disposal of electrical equipment act). The disposal of defective devices which you have sent in will be carried out free of charge. You can also return the old device to your Lidl branch, free of charge. As the end user, it is your responsibility to delete any personal information on the old devices to be disposed of. 497453_2204_Kfz-Ladegerat ULGD 5_0 D2_content_LB8.indb 18497453_2204_Kfz-Ladegerat ULGD 5_0 D2_content_LB8.indb 18 27.06.22 11:1327.06.22 11:13GB/IE/NI/CY/MT
Please return this device, accessories and packaging to your local recycling depot. This device is marked in accordance with the 2012/19/EU directive on old electronic and electrical devices (WEEE). The symbol of the “crossed out dustbin” means that you are legally obliged to place these devices in a collection which is separate from unsorted municipal waste. Disposal through household waste is prohib- ited. Batteries containing harmful substances are labelled with the adjacent symbol, which indicates the prohibition on disposal in house- hold waste. The abbreviations for the relevant heavy metals are: Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. Take used batteries to a waste management company in your city or community or return them to your dealer. This satisfi es your legal obligations while also making an important contribution to protecting the environment. Please note the marking on the different packaging materials and separate them as necessary. The packaging materials are marked with abbreviations (a) and digits (b) with the following defi nitions: 1–7: Plastics, 20–22: Paper and cardboard, 80–98: Composite materials. z EC Declaration of Conformity We, C.
