  • The actual runtime under load of a fully charged battery depends on how you work and on the load put on the trimmer during operation. Noise and vibration values have been determined according to the standards and regulations mentioned in the declaration of conformity. The speci ed total vibration value and the stated noise emission value have been measured according to a standardised test method and can be used to compare one power tool with another. The speci ed total vibration value and the stated speci ed noise emission value can also be used for a provisional assessment of the load.

Warning: The vibration and noise

emissions may deviate from the spe- ci ed values during actual use of the pow- er tool, depending on how the power tool is being used and, in particular, what kind of material is being worked on. Safety measures for the protection of the ope- rator are to be determined that are based on an estimate of the actual vibration load under the real operating conditions (for this, all parts of the operating cycle are to be taken into ac- count, for example, times in which the power tool is turned off, and those during which it is turned on but running without a load). Charging times The device is part of the Parkside X20VTEAM series and can be operated using Parkside X20VTEAM series batteries. Batteries of the Parkside X20V TEAM series may only be charged using chargers of the Parkside X20V TEAM series. a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite ac- cidents. b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of fl ammable Iiquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) ELECTRICAL SAFETY

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodi- ed plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and re- frigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pull- ing or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a RCD (Residual Current Device) protected supply with a rated leakage current of not more than 30 mA. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the infl u- ence of drugs, alcohol or medi- cation. A moment of inattention white operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. b) Use personal protective equip- ment. Always wear eye protec- tion. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appro- priate conditions will reduce personal injuries. c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off- position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your nger on the switch or energising pow- er tools that have the switch on invites accidents. d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the pow- er tool on. A wrench or a key left at- tached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. e) Do not overreach. Keep properGB MT

footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g) If dust extraction and collection devices can be installed, make sure that these are connected and used correctly. Use of dust col- lection can reduce dust-related hazards. h) Do not allow yourself to be lulled into a false sense of se- curity and do not disregard the safety rules for power tools, even if you are familiar with the power tool after using it many times. Careless action can lead to serious injuries within a fraction of a second.

4) POWER TOOL USE AND CARE

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. c) Remove the plug from the wall socket and/or remove the re- chargeable battery before you change the device’s settings, change accessory parts or put away the power tool. Such pre- ventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentaIly. d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not al- low persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e) Look after the power tool and application tool carefully. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less Iikely to bind and are easier to control. g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working condi- tions and the work to be per- formed. Use of the power tool for op- erations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. h) Keep handles and grip surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grip surfaces do not permit safe operation and control over the power tool in un- expected situations.

a) Charge the batteries only in chargers that are recommended by the manufacturer. Risk of re if a charger that is suitable for a speci c type of battery is used with other batteries.MTGB

b) In the power tools, use only the batteries designed for the pur- pose. The use of other batteries may result in injuries and risk of re. c) Keep the unused battery away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other small metal objects, which could cause bridging of the contacts. A short circuit between the battery contacts may cause burns or re. d) If used incorrectly, liquid may leak from the battery. Avoid contact with this. In the event of accidental contact, rinse off with water. If the liquid gets into eyes, seek medical assistance. Leaking bat- tery fl uid may cause skin irritations or burns. e) Do not use damaged or altered batteries. Damaged or altered batter- ies can be unpredictable and lead to re, explosion or risk of injury. f) Do not expose batteries to fi re or elevated temperatures. Fire or temperatures over 130°C can cause an explosion. g) Follow all instructions for charg- ing and never charge the bat- tery or the battery-powered tool outside the temperature range stated in the operating instruc- tions. Incorrect charging or charging outside the permitted temperature range may destroy the battery and in- crease the risk of re.

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualifi ed repair person us- ing only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. b) Never repair damaged batter- ies. All battery repairs should be car- ried out by the manufacturer or author- ised customer service centres only. Attention! Observe the safety information and notes on charging and proper use as shown in the instruction manual for your battery and charger from the Park- side X20V Team series. A detailed description of the charging process and further information can be found in the separate operating in- structions. Safety instructions for hedge trimmers a) Keep all body parts away from the blade. Do not attempt to re- move clippings or to hold onto material to be cut when the blades are running. The blades con- tinue to move after turning off the switch. A moment of inattention when using the trimmer can result in serious injuries. b) Hold the hedge trimmer by the handgrip when the blade is at a standstill and make sure you do not press the switch. Carrying the hedge trimmer correctly reduces the risk of inadvertent operation and being injured by the blade as a result. c) Always place the protective cov- er onto the blades while trans- porting or storing the hedge trimmer.Careful handling of the hedge trimmer reduces the risk of injury from the blade. d) Ensure that all switches are turned off and the battery isGB MT

removed or switched off before removing jammed clippings or maintaining the machine. Unex- pected operation of the hedge trimmer when removing jammed material can lead to serious injuries. e) Hold the hedge trimmer only by the insulated gripping surfaces as the cutting blades may come into contact with hidden wiring. • If the blades become jammed with solid objects, turn the device off immediately and remove the rechargeable battery. Only then should you remove the object.
  • Avoid overstraining the equipment dur- ing work. Cutting Techniques
  • Cut thick branches beforehand using a branch clippers.
  • The double-sided cutter bar enables cut- ting in both directions or, with a swing- ing action, from one side to the other.
  • In case of vertical cutting, move the hedge trimmer uniformly forward or up and down in an arc movement.
  • In case of horizontal cutting, move the hedge trimmer in a sickle-shaped move- ment to the edge of the hedge, so that cut branches fall to the ground.
  • In order to achieve long straight lines, the placing of tensioned guiding cords is recommended. Cutting Shaped Hedges: It is recommended that hedges be cut in a trapezoidal shape, in order to prevent stripping off of the lower branch- es. This corresponds to the natural plant growth and allows the hedge to thrive opti- mally. During cutting, only the new annual growths are reduced and thus a dense branching and a good screen will develop.
  • Cut the sides of a hedge rst. To do this, move the hedge trimmer in the direction of growth from bottom to top. If you cut down from the top, the thinner branches will move out, whichMTGB

may result in some areas having sparse growth or holes.

  • Cut the top edge, according to taste, in a fl at shape, roof shape or rounded shape
  • Trim young plants to the required shape. The main growth should re- main undamaged until the hedge has reached the planned height. All other shoots are lopped off to half size. Care of Free-Growing Hedges: Free-growing hedges are not shaped when cut, although they must be regularly main- tained so the hedge does not become too high. Cleaning and Maintenance Repair and servicing work not described in this manual should always be carried by our Service Centre. Use only original parts. Turn off the appliance and, before doing any servicing, remove the battery. Wear gloves when handling the safety knife bar. This will protect you against cuts.
