Frequently Asked Questions - Safe 00186434 HAMA

How to turn the device on and off?
Press the Power (A) button for about 3 seconds to turn on the device. To turn it off, press and hold the same button again.
What do the colors of the CO2 indicator mean?
The CO2 (5) indicator shows air quality: green (GOOD) from 401 to 700 ppm, yellow (NORMAL) from 701 to 1000 ppm, red (POOR) from 1001 to 5000 ppm. Above 1001 ppm, an audible and visual alarm is triggered.
How to interpret CO2 values?
CO2 values in ppm (parts per million) indicate carbon dioxide concentration. According to the AQI (Air Quality Index): 0-450 ppm (good), 451-1000 (moderate), 1001-1500 (unhealthy for sensitive groups), 1501-2000 (unhealthy), 2001-3000 (very unhealthy), 3001-5000 (hazardous). Above 1000 ppm, it is recommended to ventilate.
How to recalibrate the device?
To recalibrate, simultaneously press the + (B) and Power (A) buttons for about 3 seconds. Perform calibration outdoors (ambient CO2 ~400-450 ppm) for about 20 minutes, without a nearby CO2 source.
What is the battery life and how to charge it?
The built-in 850 mAh battery provides 180 to 210 minutes of battery life after a full charge of about 2 hours. Use the supplied micro-USB cable and a minimum USB 5V 1A charger. You can charge the device when on or off.
Can the device be used continuously on mains power?
Yes, the device can operate continuously when plugged into mains via the micro-USB cable and a suitable charger (5V 1A min.). The battery charges simultaneously.
What to do if the device displays abnormal values?
Check that the ventilation openings are not blocked. Perform a recalibration outdoors. Avoid the presence of perfumes, paints, smoke, alcohol, or chemical substances nearby, as they can distort measurements.
Can the device detect COVID-19?
The device does not directly detect viruses. However, a high CO2 concentration can indicate a lack of ventilation, increasing the risk of viral aerosols. It is recommended to ventilate regularly.
How to clean the device?
Unplug the device before cleaning. Use a slightly damp lint-free cloth (no harsh detergent). Make sure no liquid enters the interior.
Is the device suitable for professional use?
No, this device is intended for domestic use only. It does not have the required precision for professional or medical applications, and should not be used for workplace safety or certifications.

InadditiontothedigitaldisplayoftheCO 2 concentration(4), the device also has a CO 2 traffic light(5). It offers a visual quick check. From 400 to 700 ppm, GOOD lights up green; from 701 to 1000 ppm, NORMAL lights up yellow; from 1001 to 5000 ppm, POOR lights up red. Above 1001 \~ 2,000 ppm, the alarm symbol starts to flash and a repeated alarm sound is heard twice in succession which becomes more intensive when the limit of 2,000 ppm is exceeded. The alarm symbol and the ppm indicator flash. This can be switched on and off using the POWERbutton(A). Check viathesymbol(1) in the display.

Specifically by providing the value for the CO 2 concentration in the air(4), concentrations can be drawn about aerosols with viruses (e.g. Covid 19) present in the air. Although these are not directly detectable, increased CO 2 pollution is at the same time a measure of virus-contaminated air. This can be remedied by regular airing. Permanently inhaling bad and stale air can cause tiredness, headaches, eye irritation, etc. The ability to perform and concentrate decreases noticeably as a result.

  • Press and hold the + (B) and POWER (A) buttons simultaneously for approximately 3 seconds to recall the product. Always carry out this calibration at the commissioning stage and after prolonged period so non-use.
  • Calibrations should be carried out outdoors for around 20 minutes, as CO _2 level there a reusually around 400-450 ppm.
  • Please ensure that there is no CO_2 source in the immediate vicinity. A void direct sunlight and rain.
  • CO _2 is detected after calibration. Pleasetryto avoid perfumes, paints, air fresheners, cigarette smoke, alcohol, chemicals substances and soon while carrying out measurement since these can lead to incorrect measuring results.
