USER MANUAL Aquatherm EL Trumatic
1. Open the gas cylinder and
quick-closure valve in the gas line.
2. Switch the heating system
on at the slide switch (a) on the operating element. The green monitor light beneath the rotary switch (c) will light up, indicating that the system is in operation.
3. Set the desired ambient
temperature at the rotary knob (c).
4. If the gas line is full of air,
it may take up to a minute before gas is available for burning. If the device swit- ches to „Fault“ during this period, the starting process is to be repeated by switching off and switching on again. Red „Fault"“ Monitor Light In the event of a fault, the monitor light (c) on the ope- rating element will light up red. Reasons for this may be, for example, gas shortage, air in the gas line system, the excessive temperature moni- tor has responded, etc. Aquatherm
This situation can be released by switching off and then switching on again. The system switching off again after a short period of operation may indicate that there is air in the hot water heating system. In this case, the system must be bled (see Maintenance). In the event of any faults, you should in principle contact the Truma Service Depart- ment (see page 31). Switching off Gas operation Switch the heating off at the slide switch „a“. If the heating system has not been used for some time, shut off the quick-action valve in the gas line and the gas cylinder. Taking into operation Electrical operation 230 V (Aquatherm EL only) d = Power switch: 230 V, 500/ -1000/ -2000 W e = Green monitor light „Electrical operation 230 V“ Caution: Before switching on, it is essential to make sure that the fuses for the power supply of the campsite correspond to the power stages (d) set (see Technical Data). Important: The power feed cable for the caravan must be unrolled completely from the cable drum.
1. Set the switch (d) to the
desired power stage.
2. Switch the heating system
on at the slide switch (b). The green monitor light (e) will light up and indicate electri- cal operating mode.
3. Set the desired ambient
temperature at the rotary switch (c). Note: The electrical heating rod is fitted with a excess temperature cut-out. In the event of the system overhea- ting (e.g. after operating Aquatherm EL 500 W 1000 W 2000 W
without heating water or in the event of there being air in the heating system), it may be necessary to switch the device off briefly in order to reset the cut-out. Switching off Electri- cal operation, 230 V Switch the heating system off with the slide switch „b“. Important Operating notes
1. After the first heating ope-
ration, we recommend that the hot water heating system be bled once again (see Maintenance), and the glycol content of the heating water be checked (max. 50 %). No claims under guaran- tee will be considered for frost damage or function faults due to air in the hot water heating system. Never operate the heating system without heating water. It is possible to run the system very briefly with- out water content in order to check the electrical function.
2. If the chimney has been
placed close to a window which is to be opened (or a hatch), and particularly if placed directly beneath it, the window or hatch must re- main closed during operation (see Warning Notice).
3. The double waste gas pipe
must be checked regularly, in particular after longer jour- neys, for any leakage and to ensure it is firmly connected, as must the mounting of the device and the chimney.
4. The waste gas chimney
must always be kept clear of any dirt contamination (snow slush, vegetation, etc.).
5. In the event of misfiring
(faulty ignition), have the waste gas system checked by an expert.
6. In the event of a fault with
the electronics control circuit board, return it properly packed and padded. No claim under guarantee can be considered if this re- quirement is not respected. Use only original control cir- cuit boards as spare parts for Truma-Aquatherm systems. Operating instructions Truma-Aquatherm Liquid Gas Hot Water Heating System (Special version Aquatherm EL with additional electrical heating 230 V, 500/ -1000/ -2000 W)5 Maintaining the Hot Water Heating System The hot water heating system is filled with a mixture of 40 % glycol (in a similar manner as for motor vehicle engines, but not Diesel engines) and 60 % water. In cases of ambient temperatu- res of less than -25°C, the glycol content may be in- creased up to a maximum of 50 %. The heating water should be changed about every two years, since important pro- perties such as corrosion pro- tection will become ineffec- tive. The level of the liquid in the expansion container must be checked regularly. The level of the liquid should be about 1 cm above the „MIN“ mar- king when the heating sy- stem is cold. Expansion vessel f = Filling level of the heating water g = Cover for topping up the heating water h = Circulating pump j = Direction of run of the circulating pump (anti-clockwise) Caution: Before topping up, the glycol content is to be checked in order to avoid too high a proportion of glycol. Topping up is carried out via the expansion container. To do this, open the cover (g) of the expansion container. Add the heating water slowly until the level of the liquid (f) is about 1 cm above the „MIN“ marking. If the liquid level drops more than is anticipated given the normal rate of evaporation, the system must be checked for leaks (rubber connections, drain cock, bleeding valves, etc.). Flush away any water containing glycol which may have leaked out by using fresh water, and dry carefully. Bleeding the hot water heating system Depending on how the hea- ting system is installed, there may still be air in the system after filling (or topping up). Air in the system will be ap- parent either due to noises in the expansion container or due to unsatisfactory heating performance. If the heating performance is inadequate, the heating water cannot cir- culate and the system will only heat up in parts.
ting system, shut down the circulating pump by swit- ching the heating system off.
3. Next, open the bleeding
valves one after another until no more air emerges (the ar- rangement of the bleeding valves depends on the instal- lation. Please consult the operating instructions for your vehicle for more details).
4. Switch the heating system
on again and check whether the entire system is heating up. Repeat the procedure if necessary. Tip: If there is still air in the system after repeat bleeding, the air can be made to rise upwards by setting the ve- hicle at an angle (e.g. on a street with a pronounced gra- dient or by means of a jack). Park the vehicle in this positi- on, wait a few moments, and then open the bleeding valve at the highest point until no more air emerges. Then set the vehicle at an angle in the other direction, and repeat the bleeding process at the topmost point. Note: For professional use in workshops, we recommend the use of a special bleeding device (available from Truma) for clean and simple bleeding of the heating system. The heating fuse is located on the electronic control cir- cuit board of the device. The fine-wire fuse located on the electronic control circuit board may only be replaced by a fuse of the same design (1.25 A slow-acting fuse, IEC 127/2-III). 1. Repair jobs are only to
be carried out by an ex- pert.
2. Any alteration to the appli-
ance (including exhaust duct and cowl) or the use of spare parts and accessories which are important for the functio- ning of the heater and which are not original Truma parts, as well as the non-observan- ce of the installation and ope- rating instructions, shall lead to the cancelling of the gua- rantee and exclusion of liabili- ty claims. It also becomes il- legal to use the appliance, and in some countries this even makes it illegal to use the vehicle.
3. The operating pressure
for the gas supply is 30 mbar (or 28 mbar buta- ne/37 mbar propane) and must correspond to the operating pressure of the appliance (see name plate).
4. In Germany only, liquid
gas installations must comply with the DVGW form G 607 for motor vehicles or G 608 for water sport vehicles. The gas system must be tested every 2 years by a li- quid gas expert (DVFG, TÜV, DEKRA). This inspection must be confirmed on the test certificate in accordance with the DVGW-form G 607 or G 608. The vehicle owner is always responsible for arranging the inspection.
5. In other countries the re-
spectively valid regulations must be observed. For your own safety it is absolutely ne- cessary to have the com- plete gas installation regularly checked by an expert (every 2 years at the latest).
6. Do not operate the water
heater when refuelling the vehicle and when in the garage.
7. During the initial operation
of a brand new appliance (or after it has not been used for some time), a slight amount of fumes and smell may be noticed for a short while. This can be remedied by running the heater at maximum out- put and ensuring adequate room ventilation. For the gas system only gas pressure regulators with pro- tection against excess pres- sure, such as regulators with safety valves according to DIN 4811 and VP 306, may be used. We recommend the Truma DUB vehicle regulator6 or in the case of a two cylin- der gas installation that is only accessible from the out- side, the Truma Triomatic au- tomatic reserve switch-over. The Truma regulators have been specially designed for heavy duty use in caravans, boats and vehicles. In additi- on to a safety valve for coun- tering excess pres-sure, they also have a pres-sure gauge with which you can check that the installation is fully gas tight. Always connect the pressure regulators to the gas cylin- ders by hand, using great care! For temperatures around 0°C and below, the regulators should be opera- ted with a defroster system (Eis-Ex). Inspect regulator connec-tion hoses regularly for signs of weakness. For winter operation only use special frost-resistant hoses. Gas cylinders must always stand upright!
3. Raising the case of
warranty In Germany, the Truma Service Center in Putzbrunn/ Munich must always be contacted in event of a mal- function; Abroad, respective service partners are available (refer to address list). Com- plaints must be specified. In addition, the correctly com- pleted warranty certificate must be presented or the Se- rial number of the appliance and the date of purchase specified. If the appliance is sent back to the factory, the manufactu- rer shall check whether it is a case of warranty. If there is damage to heaters (heat ex- changers), the gas pressure regulator must also be sent back to the factory. When returning the appliance to the factory, the delivery is - in normal cases - to be by freight. If it is a case of war- ranty, the factory shall bear the cost for the delivery to the factory and the cost for returning the appliance to the customer. If the damage is deemed not to be a warranty case, the manufacturer shall notify the customer and shall specify repair costs which shall not be borne by the ma- nufacturer; in this case, the customer shall also bear the shipping costs. Manufacturer’s terms of warranty
The manufacturer grants a warranty for malfunctions in the appliance which are based on material or produc- tion faults. In addition to this, the statutory warranty claims against the seller remain valid. The warranty claim is not valid for damage to the appli- ance - as a result of not original Truma parts being used in the appliance and as a result of unsuitable gas pressure regulators being used, - as a result of non-com- pliance with the installation instructions and instruc tions for use, - as a result of incorrect handling, - as a result of incorrect packaging for transportation.
