Truma-Aquatherm Liquid Gas Hot Water Heating System (Special version Aquatherm EL with additional electrical heating 230 V, 500/-1000/-2000 W)
Operating instructions
Always observe the operating instructions and "Important operating notes" prior to starting!
The vehicle owner is responsible for the correct operation of the appliance.
The installer or vehicle owner must apply the yellow sticker with the warning information, which is enclosed with the appliance, to a place in the vehicle where it is clearly visible to all users (e.g. on the wardrobe door)! Ask Truma to send you stickers, if necessary.
Function description
The Truma-Aquatherm or Aquatherm EL liquid gas hot water heating systems heat the heating water (60% water/40% glycol) in gas and/or electrical operational mode to a constant intake temperature of about 60^ . The circulation pump (h) installed in the vehicle delivers the pre-heated heating water by means of the central heating system, and so heats the interior of the vehicle. Once the ambient temperature which has been set on the operating unit has been attained, the circulation pump will switch itself off automatically.
The hot water central heating system is adapted by the vehicle manufacturer, as required, to suit each vehicle individually. A detailed explanation of this cannot be provided in these Operating Instructions.
There is a wide range of accessories available (see brochure) to supplement this heating system.
To achieve the best possible utilization of the heat, the ambient air must be able to circulate freely around the convectors. Accordingly, ventilation apertures in the stove-wage boxes must not be co
vered by covers, cushions, carpets, etc.
Truma-Aquatherm operates with a fan-supported burner, which also ensures perfect function when the vehicle is on the move.
Note: In order to achieve more rapid heating of the heating water, the device can be operated simultaneously with gas and electricity.
Commissioning Gas operation

a = On/Off slide switch ,Gas Operation"
b = On/Off slide switch „Electrical Operation 230 V"
(Aquatherm EL only)
c = Rotary switch for ambient temperature (lit up by the green
"Operational" monitor light)
Caution: Never operate the heating system without heating water.
- Open the gas cylinder and quick-closure valve in the gas line.
- Switch the heating system on at the slide switch (a) on the operating element. The green monitor light beneath the rotary switch (c) will light up, indicating that the system is in operation.
- Set the desired ambient temperature at the rotary knob (c).
- If the gas line is full of air, it may take up to a minute before gas is available for burning. If the device switches to "Fault" during this period, the starting process is to be repeated by switching off and switching on again.
Red „Fault“ Monitor Light
In the event of a fault, the monitor light (c) on the operating element will light up red. Reasons for this may be, for example, gas shortage, air in the gas line system, the excessive temperature monitor has responded, etc.
This situation can be released by switching off and then switching on again.
The system switching off again after a short period of operation may indicate that there is air in the hot water heating system. In this case, the system must be bled (see Maintenance).
In the event of any faults, you should in principle contact the Truma Service Department (see page 31).
Switching off Gas operation
Switch the heating off at the slide switch "a".
If the heating system has not been used for some time, shut off the quick-action valve in the gas line and the gas cylinder.
Taking into operation Electrical operation 230 V (Aquatherm EL only)

d = Power switch: 230 V, 500/-1000/-2000 W
e = Green monitor light, Electrical operation 230 V
Caution: Before switching on, it is essential to make sure that the fuses for the power supply of the campsite correspond to the power stages (d) set (see Technical Data).
Important: The power feed cable for the caravan must be unrolled completely from the cable drum.
- Set the switch (d) to the desired power stage.
- Switch the heating system on at the slide switch (b). The green monitor light (e) will light up and indicate electrical operating mode.
- Set the desired ambient temperature at the rotary switch (c).
Note: The electrical heating rod is fitted with a excess temperature cut-out. In the event of the system overheating (e.g. after operating
without heating water or in the event of there being air in the heating system), it may be necessary to switch the device off briefly in order to reset the cut-out.
Switching off Electrical operation, 230V
Switch the heating system off with the slide switch "b".
Important Operating notes
- After the first heating operation, we recommend that the hot water heating system be bled once again (see Maintenance), and the glycol content of the heating water be checked (max. 50% ).
No claims under guarantee will be considered for frost damage or function faults due to air in the hot water heating system.
Never operate the heating system without heating water. It is possible to run the system very briefly without water content in order to check the electrical function.
- If the chimney has been placed close to a window which is to be opened (or a hatch), and particularly if placed directly beneath it, the window or hatch must remain closed during operation (see Warning Notice).
- The double waste gas pipe must be checked regularly, in particular after longer journeys, for any leakage and to ensure it is firmly connected, as must the mounting of the device and the chimney.
- The waste gas chimney must always be kept clear of any dirt contamination (snow slush, vegetation, etc.).
- In the event of misfiring (faulty ignition), have the waste gas system checked by an expert.
- In the event of a fault with the electronics control circuit board, return it properly packed and padded. No claim under guarantee can be considered if this requirement is not respected.
Use only original control circuit boards as spare parts for Truma-Aquatherm systems.
Maintaining the Hot Water Heating System
The hot water heating system is filled with a mixture of 40% glycol (in a similar manner as for motor vehicle engines, but not Diesel engines) and 60% water. In cases of ambient temperatures of less than -25^ , the glycol content may be increased up to a maximum of 50% .
The heating water should be changed about every two years, since important properties such as corrosion protection will become ineffective.
The level of the liquid in the expansion container must be checked regularly. The level of the liquid should be about 1 cm above the "MIN" marking when the heating system is cold.

Expansion vessel
f = Filling level of the heating water
g = Cover for topping up the heating water
h = Circulating pump
j = Direction of run of the circulating pump (anti-clockwise)
Caution: Before topping up, the glycol content is to be checked in order to avoid too high a proportion of glycol.
Topping up is carried out via the expansion container. To do this, open the cover (g) of the expansion container. Add the heating water slowly until the level of the liquid (f) is about 1 cm above the MIN" marking.
If the liquid level drops more than is anticipated given the
normal rate of evaporation, the system must be checked for leaks (rubber connections, drain cock, bleeding valves, etc.). Flush away any water containing glycol which may have leaked out by using fresh water, and dry carefully.
Bleeding the hot water heating system
Depending on how the heating system is installed, there may still be air in the system after filling (or topping up).
Air in the system will be apparent either due to noises in the expansion container or due to unsatisfactory heating performance. If the heating performance is inadequate, the heating water cannot circulate and the system will only heat up in parts.
- Heat up the Aquatherm system.
- Before bleeding the heating system, shut down the circulating pump by switching the heating system off.
- Next, open the bleeding valves one after another until no more air emerges (the arrangement of the bleeding valves depends on the installation. Please consult the operating instructions for your vehicle for more details).
- Switch the heating system on again and check whether the entire system is heating up.
Repeat the procedure if necessary.
Tip: If there is still air in the system after repeat bleeding, the air can be made to rise upwards by setting the vehicle at an angle (e.g. on a street with a pronounced gradient or by means of a jack).

Park the vehicle in this position, wait a few moments, and then open the bleeding valve at the highest point until no more air emerges. Then set the vehicle at an angle in the other direction, and repeat the bleeding process at the topmost point.
Note: For professional use in workshops, we recommend
the use of a special bleeding device (available from Truma) for clean and simple bleeding of the heating system.
The heating fuse is located on the electronic control circuit board of the device.
The fine-wire fuse located on the electronic control circuit board may only be replaced by a fuse of the same design (1.25 A slow-acting fuse, IEC 127/2-III).

Repair jobs are only to be carried out by an expert.
-
Any alteration to the appliance (including exhaust duct and cowl) or the use of spare parts and accessories which are important for the functioning of the heater and which are not original Truma parts, as well as the non-observance of the installation and operating instructions, shall lead to the cancelling of the guarantee and exclusion of liability claims. It also becomes illegal to use the appliance, and in some countries this even makes it illegal to use the vehicle.
-
The operating pressure for the gas supply is 30 mbar (or 28 mbar butane/37 mbar propane) and must correspond to the operating pressure of the appliance (see name plate).
-
In Germany only, liquid gas installations must comply with the DVGW form G 607 for motor vehicles or G 608 for water sport vehicles.
The gas system must be tested every 2 years by a liquid gas expert (DVFG, TUV, DEKRA). This inspection must be confirmed on the test certificate in accordance with the DVGW-form G 607 or G 608.
The vehicle owner is always responsible for arranging the inspection.
- In other countries the respectively valid regulations must be observed. For your own safety it is absolutely necessary to have the complete gas installation regularly checked by an expert (every 2 years at the latest).
- Do not operate the water heater when refuelling the vehicle and when in the garage.
- During the initial operation of a brand new appliance (or after it has not been used for some time), a slight amount of fumes and smell may be noticed for a short while. This can be remedied by running the heater at maximum output and ensuring adequate room ventilation.
For the gas system only gas pressure regulators with protection against excess pressure, such as regulators with safety valves according to DIN 4811 and VP 306, may be used. We recommend the Truma DUB vehicle regulator
or in the case of a two cylinder gas installation that is only accessible from the outside, the Truma Triomatic automatic reserve switch-over. The Truma regulators have been specially designed for heavy duty use in caravans, boats and vehicles. In addition to a safety valve for countering excess pres-sure, they also have a pres-sure gauge with which you can check that the installation is fully gas tight.
Always connect the pressure regulators to the gas cylinders by hand, using great care! For temperatures around 0^ and below, the regulators should be operated with a defroster system (Eis-Ex). Inspect regulator connection hoses regularly for signs of weakness. For winter operation only use special frost-resistant hoses. Gas cylinders must always stand upright!
