Shooting precautions

  • Depending on the shooting conditions, vignetting may occur. Vignetting may not completely disappear.
Focus using the focusing ring on the Fieldscope while viewing the camera's finder.
  • With high-magnification shooting, the focal depth is low. Be sure to focus carefully.
  • With high-magnification shooting, you can prevent vibrations by using a self-timer or a remote controller.
  • Camera position may become misaligned during camera operation. Before releasing the shutter, adjust the camera if necessary.
  • Do not use flash when shooting.

Camera settings

Compatible cameras: D4 series, D3 series, D2 series, Df, D810 series, D800 series, D750, D700, D610, D600, D300 series, D200, D100, D7200, D7100, D7000, D90, D80, D70 series, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3300, D3200, D3100, D3000, D60, D50, D40 series (As of May, 2015)

  • When used with a Nikon FX-format digital SLR camera, vignetting occurs at focal lengths between 500mm and 750mm with EDG Fieldscope 85 series and between 400mm and 600mm with EDG Fieldscope 65 series.

Compatible Fieldscopes: EDG Fieldscope 85 VR/85-A VR

EDG Fieldscope 85/85-A

EDG Fieldscope 65/65-A

Shooting modes: A (Aperture-Priority Auto) mode or M (Manual) mode

  • Appropriate aperture using aperture-priority auto mode with a film camera has not been verified.

Exposure metering: Center-weighted metering

  • Matrix metering and spot metering cannot be used.
  • When you move away from the finder during shooting, prevent light entering with a shield such as an eyepiece cap.
  • Because the optical system has different characteristics from interchangeable camera lenses, when the FSA-L2 and a Fieldscope are used for shooting with a digital SLR camera, exposure may vary with the camera model. Use exposure compensation if necessary.
Exposure compensation may be necessary when used at wide-angle zoom setting.
  • The actual f-number and the focal length vary depending on the actual zoom setting, while the camera display and image data show the constant f-number (13) and focal length (800mm).

Focus: Manual focus using the focusing ring on the Fieldscope body.

  • "Autofocus" and "Manual focus with electronic rangefinder" function cannot be used.
  • When a lens is used at a telephoto setting, the viewfinder image becomes darker because of the changes in F-number. Please take into consideration that in this situation it may be difficult to focus.

Shutter release: To reduce vibration caused by shutter release, please use the following mode/items:

Exposure delay mode, remote cord, self-timer, remote control, Modulite Remote Control Set ML-3, etc.
- When using a tripod, please use a sturdy and stable model.

  • Please refer to the Nikon website for the latest information of compatible cameras and Fieldscopes
