How do I use the coffee maker for the first time?

Before first use, rinse all detachable components with warm water. Fill the reservoir with cold water to the maximum level and brew water twice without coffee powder. Then you can start making coffee.

How do I make coffee?

Open the reservoir lid, fill with cold water up to the desired level. Place the reusable mesh filter in the filter basket, then add coffee powder using the measuring spoon. Close the lid, place the glass jug on the warming plate, and press the on/off button to start brewing.

Can I remove the jug during brewing without spilling?

Yes, the appliance has an anti-drip valve. You can temporarily remove the glass jug for up to 30 seconds without coffee dripping. Replace it promptly to continue brewing.

How do I clean the coffee maker?

Unplug and let it cool. Clean the exterior with a damp cloth. Wash detachable parts (filter basket, glass jug) in warm soapy water; the jug and filter basket are dishwasher safe. Do not immerse the main unit in water.

How often should I descale the coffee maker?

Descale every 3 to 4 months, depending on water hardness. Use a commercial descaling agent: fill reservoir with 400 ml water and the required amount of agent, let it sit for one hour, then run the cycle. Follow with two cycles of fresh water to rinse.

Why does the coffee taste bitter?

Possible reasons: using too much coffee powder, insufficient cleaning, or need for descaling. Adjust the amount of coffee, clean all parts regularly, and descale as recommended.

The coffee maker turns off by itself after some time – is that normal?

Yes, the appliance has an automatic shut-off feature that turns off the warming plate after 40 minutes. This is normal and designed for safety and energy saving.

What should I do if the power cord is damaged?

Do not use the appliance. Contact Emerio customer service or a qualified technician to replace the cord to avoid electric shock hazard.

Can I use ground coffee other than regular filter grind?

It is recommended to use medium grind coffee suitable for filter coffee makers. Very fine grounds may clog the filter or pass through. You can also use pre-ground coffee for drip machines.

In case of damage caused by user failing to follow the instructions in this manual the warranty will be void. The manufacturer/importer accepts no liability for damages caused by failure to follow the manual, a negligent use or use not in accordance with the requirements of this manual.

1. This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.
2. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised.
3. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children aged less than 8 years.
4. Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
5. Children shall not play with the appliance.
6. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

11. The coffee-maker shall not be placed in a cabinet when in use.
12. Before inserting the plug into the mains socket, please check that the voltage and frequency comply with the specifications on the rating label.
13. If an extension cord is used it must be suited to the power consumption of the appliance, otherwise overheating of the extension cord and/or plug may occur. There is a potential risk of injuries from tripping over the extension cord. Be careful to avoid dangerous situations.
14. Disconnect the mains plug from the socket when the appliance is not in use and before cleaning.
15. Ensure that the mains cable is not hung over sharp edges and keep it away from hot objects and open flames.
16. Do not immerse the appliance or the mains plug in water or other liquids. There is danger to life due to electric shock!
17. To remove the plug from the plug socket, pull the plug. Do not pull the power cord.
18. Do not touch the appliance if it falls into water. Remove the plug from its socket, turn off the appliance and send it to an authorized service center for repair.

28. Never use the appliance of the glass jug shows signs of cracks or glass jug having a loose or weakened handle. Only use the class jug with this appliance. Use carefully as the glass jug is very fragile.

OPERATION

Before first-time use:

• Before using this device for the first time please carefully rinse all detachable components with warm water.
• Fill the reservoir with cold water to the maximum water level indication.
• Afterwards brew water twice without coffee powder.

To percolate coffee:

1. Open the lid of the reservoir and fill the reservoir with cold water. Do not fill the water over the maximum level.
2. Place the reusable mesh filter into the filter basket and place the filter basket into the brewing chamber. Make sure the filter basket is fitted properly, otherwise the lid cannot be closed.
3. Use the measuring spoon to add the amount of coffee powder appropriate to the amount of cups you want to brew.
4. Close the lid of reservoir, a click sound will be heard when the lid of reservoir is closed completely.
5. Insert the glass jug in place onto the warming plate horizontally, ensure the center hole in the glass jug lid aligns with the anti-drip valve.
6. Connect the mains plug to an appropriate wall outlet.
7. Start brewing coffee by pressing the On/off button. The indicator light will be on.
8. If you leave the appliance switched on, the warming plate will keep the coffee warm after finishing brewing. The whole working process will last 40 minutes. After 40 minutes the unit will be automatically shut off and stop working. The indicator light will be off.
9. After use, turn off the appliance and disconnect the power supply.

Note:

• The brewing process can be interrupted by pressing on/off switch at any time. The appliance will continue brewing once the switch is pressed again.
• The appliance is designed with an Anti-drip function. You can temporarily remove the glass jug and pour out coffee during brewing cycle without coffee dripping from the appliance within 30 seconds.
• CAUTION! When pouring coffee from the glass jug, pour it slowly. Do not incline the glass jug suddenly in a large tilting angle, in case the hot coffee flow out from the lid rim and hurt people.
• The coffee you get will less than the water you have added, as some water is absorbed by coffee powder. DO NOT touch lid, warming plate and so on when operating as they are very hot.
  • Never leave the empty glass jug on the warming plate otherwise the glass jug is liable to crack.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

• Before cleaning remove the mains plug and let the device cool down.
- Never immerse the device in water. Please use a slightly damp cloth to clean the surfaces.
- Avoid using acrid or scrubbing cleaning agents.
- All detachable parts can be cleaned in warm soapy water. Rinse and dry.
- The glass jug and filter basket are dishwasher safe.

Descaling:

• Regularly descale the coffee percolator. The intervals of descaling depend on the water hardness and frequency of operation. In case of average water hardness we suggest descaling every 3 or 4 months. Please use a commercially available decalcification agent.
• Fill 400 ml of water into the reservoir and add the necessary amount of decalcification agent in accordance with the dosing instructions.
• Let the decalcification agent sink in the coffee percolator for about one hour. Switch on the unit after one hour and let the water pass through. After that you should brew water twice and rinse all detachable components, in order to clean off any residue.

Damage caused by not following the instruction manual, will lead to a void of warranty, if this results in consequential damages then we will not be liable. Damage to accessories does not mean free replacement of the whole appliance. In such case please contact our service department. Broken glass or breakage of plastic parts is always subject to a charge. Defects to consumables or parts subjected to wearing, as well as cleaning, maintenance or the replacement of said parts are not covered by the warranty and are to be paid.

Electrical and electronic devices/ information for private households

The Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment contains a large number of requirements for handling electrical and electronic equipment. The most important are compiled here.

1. Separate collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment

Owners of WEEE must hand over them in complete condition. However, owners of WEEE have to separate old batteries and accumulators which are not enclosed by the WEEE, as well as lamps which can be removed, from the WEEE without destroying it before handing it over to a collection point.

Owners of WEEE from private households can hand them in free of charge at the designated collection points of the public waste disposal authorities or at the take-back points set up by manufacturers or distributors in terms of the Directive 2012/19/EU.

WEEE often contain sensitive personal data. This applies especially to information and telecommunications technology devices such as computers and smartphones. In your own interest, please note that each end user is responsible for deleting the data on the WEEE before disposing it.

5. Potential environmental impact

WEEE contain substances that may have a negative impact on the environment and human health if their collection, hand-over, re-use or material recovery is not done in compliance with respective legislation.

6. Your role in WEEE waste treatment

By fulfilling these obligations and especially by fulfilling the obligation to collect WEEE separately, not to dispose it together with unsorted municipal waste and to hand it over to at collection points, you as the end user contribute to the re-use and material recovery of WEEE.

7. Meaning of the crossed-out dustbin symbol

The crossed-out dustbin, which is regularly displayed on electrical and electronic equipment, indicates that the respective device must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste at the end of its life cycle.
