How to pair the FreeBuds SE 4 with my phone?

Open the charging case with the earbuds inside, then press and hold the Function button for 2 seconds until the indicator light flashes white. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and select the earbuds from the list of available devices. For some Huawei/Honor phones, a pop-up window will appear automatically.

How to reset the earbuds to factory settings?

Place the earbuds in the charging case, open the lid, then press and hold the Function button for 10 seconds until the indicator light flashes red. The earbuds will be restored and will re-enter pairing mode.

How to charge the charging case?

Connect the case to a power source via a USB-C cable (not included). The charger power should be between 3.5 W and 5.5 W for optimal charging. The earbuds charge automatically when placed in the case and the lid is closed.

How to clean the earbuds?

For proper operation, regularly clean the acoustic meshes, ear tips, and metal contact points on the earbuds and charging case. Use a soft, dry cloth. In case of skin irritation, remove the earbuds and clean them thoroughly.

What touch gestures are available?

Double tap: play/pause, answer/end call. Triple tap: skip to next track. Touch and hold: switch between noise reduction modes. Gestures can be customized in the companion app.

How to change the noise reduction mode?

Press and hold the touch area of one earbud to switch between available noise reduction modes. You can also change these settings in the companion app.

Are the earbuds waterproof?

The earbuds (excluding the charging case) are IP54 certified, protecting them against dust and water splashes. However, avoid submerging them or using them in very humid environments.

How to update the earbuds firmware?

The firmware updates automatically when the earbuds are connected to a Huawei or Honor device (released before end of 2020) and Wi-Fi or mobile data is enabled. To disable automatic updates, go to the settings in the companion app.

What to do if the earbuds don't connect?

Make sure Bluetooth on your device is enabled and the earbuds are in pairing mode (white flashing light). If necessary, reset the earbuds by pressing the Function button for 10 seconds. Also check that the earbuds are sufficiently charged.

What safety precautions should I follow?

Do not listen at high volume for long periods to prevent hearing damage. Keep the earbuds at least 15 cm away from medical implants (pacemakers, etc.). Do not use them while driving. Keep the earbuds and case out of reach of children due to small parts and battery.

Downloading and installing the app

Scan the QR code to download and install the earbud settings app, where you can try out more features and customize the settings for your earbuds.

Pairing and connecting

1 Enable Bluetooth on the device you wish to pair with the earbuds.
2 Open the charging case and leave the earbuds inside. Hold down on the Function button at the bottom of the case for 2 seconds until the indicator flashes white. The earbuds will then enter Pairing mode.

When you open the charging case for the first time, the indicator will flash white, and the earbuds will automatically enter Pairing mode.

3 Pair the earbuds in either of the following ways:

Method 1: Proximity pairing

Place the earbuds close to your phone/tablet, and touch CONNECT on the displayed pop-up.

Method 2: Bluetooth pairing

Search for the earbuds in the Bluetooth settings on your phone/tablet and complete the pairing.

Proximity pairing is supported on select HUAWEI phones/tablets running EMUI 10.0/HarmonyOS 2.0 or later.

Restoring the earbuds to their factory settings

Open the charging case and leave the earbuds inside. Hold down on the Function button for 10 seconds until the indicator flashes red. The earbuds will then be restored to their factory settings before re-entering Pairing mode.

Tap or hold down the touch control area on either earbud to do the following.

Double tapping	Play/Pause
	Answer/End a call
Triple tapping Next track
Touch and hold Switch between noise canceling modes

You can also customize the gesture settings in the earbud settings app. Actual device interface may differ from that displayed.

Selecting a pair of ear tips

Choose the size that provides the desired noise canceling effects and comfort when worn (the following uses the left earbud as an example). The tighter fit, the better the noise cancellation performance.

1 Turn the ear tip inside out, and align the smaller end of the ear tip with the corresponding slot on the earbud.

2 Gently push the ear tip onto the upper part of the slot, and then stretch it over the slot completely so that it fits securely.

3 Flip the ear tip back.

Charging the case

Connect the case to a power source via a USB-C cable to begin charging it.

The earbuds do not come with a USB-C charging cable.

Place the earbuds in the charging case and close the case to initiate automatic charging.

Safety Information

Before using and operating this device, read the following precautions to ensure an optimal device performance and avoid dangerous use or unauthorized operations.

• To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at a high volume for long periods.
- Some wireless devices may interfere with implantable medical devices and other medical equipment, such as pacemakers, cochlear implants, and hearing aids. When using the product, keep it at least 15 cm away from such medical devices. Consult the manufacturer of your medical equipment for more information.
- Ideal temperatures: 0^ to 35^ for operating; -20^ to +45^ for storage. If your surroundings are too hot or cold, the device may fail to work properly.
- Ensure that the power adapter meets the requirements of IEC/EN 62368-1 and has been tested and approved according to national or local standards.
- Observe all local traffic laws and regulations while using this product. Do not use this device when you are driving.
- Keep this device and its accessories that may contain small components out of the reach of children. Otherwise, children may damage this device and its accessories by mistake, or swallow the small components, which may cause choking.
- Avoid using the device in dusty, damp, or dirty environments, or near sources of magnetic interference.
- Avoid disassembling or modifying your device and its accessories. Unauthorized disassembly and modifications may result in voiding the factory warranty. If your device is faulty, visit an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
- The earbuds meet requirements of (excluding the charging case) IP54 (IEC 60529).
- The power delivered by the charger must be between min 3.5 Watts required by the radio equipment, and max 5.5 Watts in order to achieve the maximum charging speed.

Warning:

• This device contains a coin, button, or small-sized cell battery. Do not swallow the battery, as it constitutes a chemical burn hazard.
• If the coin, button, or small size cell battery is swallowed, it can cause severe internal burns in just 2 hours and can lead to death.
• Keep new and used batteries away from children. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children. If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.
• Keep the battery away from fire, excessive heat, extremely low air pressure and direct sunlight. Do not place it on or in heating devices. Do not disassemble, modify, throw, or squeeze it. Do not insert foreign objects into it, submerge it in liquids, or expose it to external force or pressure, as this may cause it to leak, overheat, catch fire, or even explode.
• Do not attempt to replace the battery yourself — you may damage the battery, which could cause overheating, fire, and injury. The built-in battery in your device should be serviced by Huawei or an authorized service provider.
• The nameplate of this device is attached to the inside of the charging case lid.
• Open or close the charging case to enable or disable Bluetooth.

Precautions

• In order for the earbuds to function correctly, keep the mesh, ear tips, as well as the metal contact points on the earbuds and charging case clean.
- If you experience any skin irritation while wearing the earbuds, remove them and clean them thoroughly. If the issue persists, seek advice from a medical professional.
- Enabling noise canceling may affect your awareness of surrounding sounds and alarms. Ensure that you are in a safe environment when using this function.
- This device's firmware will automatically update whenever it connects to a previously paired Honor device (released before the end of 2020) or a previously paired Huawei device, and Wi-Fi or mobile data is enabled. You can disable automatic firmware updates in Settings.
- Battery life may vary depending on the device settings, storage and usage environments, and enabled features.
