Frequently Asked Questions - 4459 Cloer

How to use the keep warm function?
After selecting the desired temperature (60-100 °C), press the Keep warm button instead of the On/Off switch. The appliance heats and then maintains the water at that temperature for about 2 hours. You can remove and replace the kettle during this time.
How to set the exact temperature?
On the touch zone, directly touch the desired temperature on the bar (60, 70, 80, 90 or 100 °C). The LED display lights up blue up to that mark. Confirm by pressing On/Off.
What to do if the kettle does not turn on?
First check that the plug is properly inserted. If the overheat protection has been triggered (dry boiling), let it cool for 1 hour then fill with cold water. If the problem persists, contact customer service.
How to clean the scale filter?
The filter is located under the spout. To remove it, press on the flat top edge with both thumbs to unclip the fastenings. Clean it under running water, then replace it by inserting the lower pin first and engaging the upper hooks.
How to descale the kettle?
Use a commercial descaling product (e.g., Durgol without boiling) or a mixture of 5-6 tablespoons of vinegar for 0.5 L of water. Do not boil the vinegar: let it act cold, then rinse twice with clean water. Descale every 2-3 weeks depending on water hardness.
What is the minimum amount of water I should put in?
The minimum level (MIN mark) is 0.5 litre. It is essential to cover the temperature sensor for the appliance to turn off correctly. Otherwise, the kettle may not stop.
How to avoid overflows?
Do not exceed the MAX mark (1.7 L). If you pour too much water, boiling water may overflow through the spout. In case of overflow, turn off and let cool before wiping.
Can I open the lid while the water is heating?
No, never open the lid during boiling or just after, due to the risk of steam burns. Wait until the water has stopped boiling.
How to reset the kettle after overheating?
If the overheat protection has been triggered (appliance used dry), unplug and let cool for about 1 hour. Then fill with cold water; the appliance is operational again.
What to do if the kettle makes an unusual noise?
A louder noise than usual is generally due to limescale. Descale the kettle as indicated in the manual. If the noise persists after descaling, contact customer service.

Touch control panel

  • Your kettle is equipped with a temperature control and a keep-warm function, which are controlled by touch using a modern touch control panel.
  • A temperature in the range of 60° - 100°C can be selected for both.
  • The closed surface prevents dirt, dust or water from getting into the inside of the base.

Operation

  • Plug the power plug into the wall socket
  • Remove the electric kettle from the contact base.
  • Open the lid by pressing the cover release knob at the handle.

  • Fill the electric kettle with desired amount of cold tap water using the water markings on the water level display behind the handle.

Cloer 4459 - Keeping warm function - 1

  • This automatically operates the ON/OFF switch and the device starts to boil.
  • Then the water is kept warm on the selected temperature.
  • You can remove the water boiler from the contact socket at any time during the keeping warm time, pour water and return it, which will continue the keeping warm function.

Overheating protection device

  • The electric kettle is equipped with a overheating protection. In the event that you accidentally operate the electric kettle without water, the device will automatically switch off for your safety and can have no function for a short time. Let the appliance allow to cool for ca. 1 hour. Afterwards fill in cold water and the device will be ready to operate again.
  • Fill in cold water and let the appliance cool down for about 15 min. Then the appliance is again ready for operation.

Cleaning

  • CAUTION: Do not immerse appliance or base in water and do not clean under running water!
  • Do not clean the electric kettle with heavily abrasive cleaners. They could scratch the appliance.
  • Clean very dirty appliances with a damp cloth and lukewarm water.

Removing / cleaning the lime filter

  • The lime filter is located below the pouring spout inside of the kettle.
  • Remove the filter towards the top.
  • Clean the lime filter with a little bit of soapy water and place it into the bottom hole of the scale filter holder of the water boiler with the bottom pin first. Then push the two upper filter hooks back into the square holes of the holder in the water boiler until the scale filter latches.

Decalcifying

If the water contains limescale, the kettle should be descaled at regular

intervals (depending on the water hardness hardness of the water, approx. every 2-3 weeks). By regular descaling keeps the power consumption low consumption is kept low and the service life of your kettle is extended. A layer of limescale on the heating element prevents optimum heat transfer to the water, which extends the brewing time and may stop the function completely.

It also leads to increased noise during the boiling process. Use a commercially available descaling agent for descaling and follow the instructions for use.

When using a descaler, we recommend:
Cloer 4459 - Decalcifying - 1

Please follow the instructions for use when using Durgol. Unlike other descaling agents, Durgol is used without boiling.

Tip: If the kettle is slightly calcified, you can also descale it with a mixture of 5-6 tablespoons of vinegar to 0.5 litres of water instead of using descaling agents.

Please note when descaling with vinegar:

  • First fill the kettle with cold water:
  • Boil this briefly
  • Now add the vinegar and leave the appliance to stand for a while.
  • CAUTION: Do not boil this mixture.
    • After descaling, rinse the kettle twice with clean water.
  • If the appliance malfunctions due to limescale, there is no warranty claim!

NOTE

The lime content varies from region to region. Please ask your local waterworks or public utility company about the hardness of your water. Hard water should be descaled more often, soft water less often.
