Frequently Asked Questions - DKVM-222 D-LINK

At computer startup, the keyboard is not detected or a keyboard/mouse error message appears. What to do?

Check that your PC's BIOS supports booting from USB devices. If not, update the PC's firmware. Also ensure that the 'Power On' function is disabled in the BIOS.

The BIOS is correctly configured, but the computer still does not detect the mouse and keyboard.

Connect the USB KVM switch directly to the motherboard USB port of the PC, not via a port on a PCI card, Cardbus adapter, or USB hub.

When switching to PC2, the display remains on PC1. Why?

Make sure the second PC is powered on. Use the keyboard shortcut (Scroll Lock or Caps Lock twice) or the remote control button to switch.

How to set up a keyboard shortcut on Mac 10.6?

Press Ctrl + click (or right-click) on the green icon in the taskbar, then click 'Setting' to open the settings menu.

Why does the sound not follow when switching PC?

If you use the Caps Lock shortcut (twice), the audio remains on the initial computer. Use the Scroll Lock shortcut (twice) instead to also switch the audio.

The remote control does not work. What to check?

Check that the remote control is pointed at the switch's receiver and there are no obstacles. Replace the batteries if necessary.

How to correctly connect the peripherals?

Follow the provided diagram: connect the keyboard, mouse, and monitor to the corresponding ports on the switch. Speakers are optional. Then connect the USB, VGA, and audio cables to the computers.

What do the green and orange LEDs mean?

The green LED indicates that PC1 is selected, the orange LED indicates that PC2 is selected.

Is this KVM switch compatible with Linux?

Note:

This KVM Switch will not detect whether a computer is on or off if the "Power On" function is set in the BIOS. If you switch to a computer that is turned off, nothing will be displayed on the monitor.

SWITCH OPERATION

Remote Control Switching

Push the remote control button to switch between computers.

The green and orange LEDs indicate the selected PC.

Hot key Switching (for Microsoft Windows ^® PCs)

Press the Scroll Lock key two times to switch between PCs, including audio.

Press the Caps Lock key two times to switch between PCs but maintain the audio feed of the original computer.

TROUBLESHOOTING

SETUP AND CONFIGURATION PROBLEMS

1. WHEN TURNING THE COMPUTER ON, THE KEYBOARD IS NOT DETECTED, OR A KEYBOARD / MOUSE ERROR MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED.

If the computer's BIOS does not support USB boot-up, the system may be unable to detect the mouse and keyboard during startup. Please ensure that your PC BIOS supports USB boot-up, and upgrade your PC's firmware if necessary.

1. THE COMPUTER'S BIOS IS CORRECTLY CONFIGURED BUT THE COMPUTER IS STILL UNABLE TO DETECT THE MOUSE AND KEYBOARD.

Be sure to directly connect the USB KVM switch to USB port on the PC's motherboard rather than through a port on a PCI card, Card Bus, or USB Hub.

1. WHEN SWITCHING TO PC2, THE COMPUTER STILL DISPLAYS PC1.

The KVM switch may not function correctly while a computer is powered off or still booting up. Ensure that the second PC is powered on and use the hot key or remote control button to switch between computers.
