What is the maximum number of sheets the Genie 580 XCD Plus can shred at once?

The shredder can cut up to 10 sheets of DIN A4 paper (80 g/m²) in one pass. Do not exceed this capacity to avoid damaging the device.

How to destroy a CD, DVD, or credit card with this shredder?

Use the separate cutting unit provided for this purpose. Insert the CD/DVD or credit card into the dedicated slot. Caution: CD/DVDs may shatter, keep your face away. Credit cards should be inserted horizontally. Do not insert them at the same time as paper.

What to do in case of a paper jam?

Immediately set the switch to the REV position to reverse the rotation and release the blades. If the jam persists, unplug the device, carefully remove the stuck paper, then plug back in and set to AUTO position.

Why does the Power/Overheat LED turn red?

The red LED indicates motor overheating or overload. This occurs if you use the device continuously for more than 3 minutes at full capacity or if you insert too many sheets. Let the device cool down until the LED turns green again (approximately 60 minutes).

How to maintain and clean the document shredder?

Turn off and unplug the device. Clean the housing with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use solvents. For the blades, use a lubricating sheet in FWD position to oil the cutting unit. Empty the bin regularly.

Can I shred staples and paper clips with the 580 XCD Plus?

It is recommended to remove paper clips and staples before inserting paper. Although the device can cut a few staples, this may reduce the blade life and cause jams.

What are the essential safety precautions?

Never place hands, fingers, or clothing near the openings. Keep the device out of reach of children and pets. Unplug before cleaning or emptying. Do not use flammable sprays or compressed air. Always turn off the device when not in use.

How to empty the waste bin?

Set the switch to OFF and unplug the device. Gently lift the shredder to separate it from the bin. Empty the bin and replace the device, ensuring it clicks into place.

What to do if the device does not start in AUTO position?

First check that the device is correctly placed on the bin (a click should be heard). Ensure the power outlet works and the LED is green. If the problem persists, try the FWD position to force rotation, then switch back to AUTO.

How to dispose of the device at the end of its life?

Do not dispose of the device with household waste. Take it to a collection point (store, recycling center) for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Packaging is recyclable, sort it according to local regulations.

EN GENIE 580 XCD Plus Shredder with separate compartment for CD/DVD and credit cards

The operating manual represents a component part of the device. It contains important information regarding safety, use and disposal. Familiarize yourself with all the operating and safety information before starting to use the device. Only use the device as described and for the purpose for which it is intended. Hand over all the documents with the device if it is transferred to third parties.

Intended Use

The shredder is only suitable for shredding of paper, CD/DVD and credit cards. Any other use or modification shall be deemed to be improper and involves substantial risk of accidents.

Setup

1. Place the CD/DVD & Credit card shredding plastic bin provided with your shredder, inside the appropriate rib position attached to the inside of waste bin.
2. Place the shredder securely on top of the wastebasket. Be sure not to allow your fingers to get between the basket and the shredder as you are placing the shredder in place.
3. Plug the power cord into any standard 220-240 volt AC outlet.

Operating the shredder

The switch is located on the top of the device and can be set to four (4) different positions.

1. AUTO: the LED inscribed "Power/Overheat" lights up green and indicates the operating status. The cutting process is started automatically as soon as the paper, CD/DVD or credit card to be shredded is inserted in the respective insertion slot.
   Please do not insert a CD/DVD or credit card in the insertion slot while you are shredding paper. Also, please note that you cannot shred paper at the same time you are shredding a CD/DVD or credit card.
   The shredding process stops automatically when the material being shredded has been fed through the cutting mechanism completely.

2. REV: this serves to clear up paper jams. The running direction of the cutting mechanism is reversed before finishing a working cycle to free the blades from paper. Set the switch to this position immediately if you discover that too much paper has been inserted and the shredding process has slowed noticeably, or if you have inserted too much paper by mistake and the cutting mechanism has become blocked.

3. FWD: this serves to run the cutting mechanism in working direction even if no paper has been inserted. This is useful after a shredding process to clear any paper residue from the cutting mechanism or remove paper residue which is too small for the AUTO sensors to detect. The cutting mechanism can be oiled by means of a sheet of oil paper and the cutting mechanism can continue to be run to ensure the oil is distributed well in the mechanism.

4. OFF: this serves to switch the device OFF and disconnect it from the power supply which should be done if the paper basket must be emptied or the device will not be used for a longer period of time.

This device is only intended for private use indoors. Do not use the shredder for commercial purposes or outdoors.

Continuous use of the shredder at maximum sheet capacity for a period over 3 minutes without any interruptions leads to the motor overheating whereby the device then switches off automatically. The "Power/Overheat" LED lights up red. Allow the device to cool down to room temperature before putting it into operation again. (Also refer to Averting Paper Jams and Overheating.) The "Power/Overheat" LED then lights up green again.

Shredder capacity

The 580 XCD Plus shreds up to 10 sheets of paper (A4, 80 g/m ^2 ). The paper width can be up to 22 cm. When shredding small items such as envelopes or credit card receipts, insert them into the centre of the feed opening.

Please ensure that you never insert more than the maximum amount specified above into the cutting mechanism. Doing so may damage the device.

Separate cutting unit for CDs/DVDs and credit cards

This document shredder is equipped with a separate cutting mechanism for CDs/DVDs and credit cards. CDs/DVDs are cut into 3 pieces. As there is always a risk of splintering with these materials, keep your face at a safe distance when inserting CDs/DVDs. Credit cards must be inserted horizontally. The shredded material is collected in a separate waste container, making it easy to dispose of in an environmentally friendly manner!

Cautions

1. Read the operating manual before starting to use the device
2. Keep all loose articles of clothing, ties ⏻, jewelry ⏻, hair ⏻ or other small items away from the feed opening to prevent injury.
3. Keep in the OFF position when the shredder is not in use for prolonged periods of time.
4. Remove all paper clips and staples from paper before shredding. Unit will cut staples, however it is not recommended.
5. Do not place hands or fingers into the shredder throat as serious injury could result.
6. The device should be placed as close as possible to an easily accessible wall socket.
7. The document shredder must always be deactivated and disconnected from the electrical line prior to moving, transporting and cleaning the device and prior to emptying the waste basket.
8. Empty wastebasket frequently. Otherwise, the cutting mechanism may become clogged.
9. Please do not leave the document shredder unattended e.g. in the event children or pets are nearby.
10. Never open the case, if you have any problems, please contact the dealer where you bought this device or our hotline.
11. The device may not be operated with a damaged power cord.
12. For indoor use only.
13. This machine is no toy. Keep it away from children and pets.
14. Please do not shred credit cards, CDs/DVDs and paper at the same time.

15. Please do not spray any flammable gas or oil onto this shredder, it may cause fire.

16. To protect the machine well, we suggest the user to operate it in this way: work 3 minutes then rest one hour.

Paper Jams and overload protection

GENIE 580 XCD Plus is equipped with a motor overload protection device. The normal short duty cycle for continuous shredding at maximum capacity is 3 minutes. The power may terminate automatically in case of the following abnormal situations:

1. Operating the shredder at the maximum capacity continuously for a prolonged period of time, e.g. more than 3 minutes for computer paper and CD/DVD or credit card without stopping.
2. Exceeding the shredding capacity e.g. inserting more than 10 sheets at one pass, or if the paper is not fed squarely into the feed opening.

Under the above conditions, the automatic overload protection for the motor is triggered and the power supply to the device is interrupted. In such cases, the "Power/Overheat" LED lights up red. Take the following measures:

1. Unplug the power cord from the AC outlet to allow shredder to cool down. Tear or cut off any excess paper from the top of the shredder.
2. Connect the power plug to the AC power socket again. Wait until the "Power/Overheat" LED lights up green. Set the switch to its REV position. Pull the remaining paper away from the cutting blades. Then set the switch back to its AUTO position. Repeat this process, if necessary.
3. With the Main Switch in the AUTO position and the feed opening clear, you are now ready to resume normal shredding.

Cleaning

Warning! The blades of the device are very sharp! Danger of injury!

1. Switch off the unit.
2. Disconnect the power plug from the power socket.

3. Empty the drip trays regularly.

4. Clean the surface of the housing with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use any solvents or cleaning agents.

5. Remove any residue in the cutting holes with a suitable object.
