Frequently Asked Questions - PowerCheck Laserliner

How to test a 1.5V round battery?
Open the battery compartment (1) and insert the battery respecting the + and - poles. Set the switch (4) to the 1.5V position. The needle indicates good (green), low (orange) or replace (red).
What types of batteries can I test?
This tester accepts 1.2V (NiMH), 1.5V (alkaline/zinc-carbon) round batteries, 1.5V and 3.0V (lithium-manganese) button batteries, as well as 9.0V (alkaline) and 8.4V (NiMH) flat batteries.
How to interpret the dial colors?
The dial is divided into three zones: green (good) = battery charged, orange (low) = battery soon to be replaced, red (replace) = battery discharged.
Does the tester require a battery to operate?
Yes, the tester works with a 1.5V AAA battery inserted in its own compartment. Ensure to respect polarity during installation.
How to test a 9V flat battery?
Place the flat battery on contacts 3a (negative pole) and 3b (positive pole) of compartment (3). Set the switch (4) to the 9V position. Read the result on the dial.
What to do if the needle does not move?
Check that the tested battery is in good condition and that you have set the switch to the corresponding battery type. Also ensure the tester's internal battery is functional and correctly installed.
Can I test rechargeable batteries?
Yes, NiMH batteries of 1.2V and 8.4V are testable. Set the switch to the 1.2V position for round batteries or 8.4V for flat batteries.
How to clean and maintain the tester?
Clean the device with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaning products, solvents or abrasives. Remove the internal battery if not used for a long time.
Does the tester work with button batteries?
Yes, use compartment (2) for small button batteries and compartment (1) for large ones. Set the switch to 1.5V or 3.0V depending on the button battery type.
What to do in case of malfunction?
The tester contains no user-repairable parts. In case of problem, contact Laserliner customer service. Refer to the warranty in the provided booklet.

General safety instructions

  • The device must only be used in accordance with its intended purpose and within the scope of the specifications.
  • The measuring tools and accessories are not toys. Keep out of reach of children.
  • The structure of the device must not be modified in any way.
  • Do not expose the device to mechanical stress, extreme temperatures or significant vibration.
  • The tester operates in the voltage range from 1.2V to 9.0V. Make sure the inserted, correspondingly rated batteries only make contact at the marked contact surfaces.
  • Insert the batteries the right way round to ensure correct polarity; polarity reversal can adversely affect operation of the device.

Additional information on use

The scale divides the usability of batteries in mobile devices into „good“, „weak“ and „replace“.

The divisions are based on general average values for constant use and can vary in devices with abnormal current consumption.

Especially in devices with high, temporary current peaks and/or for inferior quality batteries, it may be necessary to change the battery earlier than indicated on the display.

Devices with efficient power management can generally still operate effectively even when the batteries are almost completely discharged.

In such cases, try to interpret the reading on the LC display in terms of the running time of your specific devices/batteries in order to guarantee optimum battery utilisation.

Safety instructions

Dealing with electromagnetic radiation

  • The measuring device complies with electromagnetic compatibility regulations and limit values in accordance with EMC-Directive 2014/30/EU.
  • Local operating restrictions – for example, in hospitals, aircraft, petrol stations or in the vicinity of people with pacemakers – may apply. Electronic devices can potentially cause hazards or interference or be subject to hazards or interference.
