Frequently Asked Questions - Dustex 35 LX AC Fein

Can I use the vacuum cleaner to suck up flammable liquids?
No, it is prohibited to vacuum flammable liquids such as gasoline, alcohol or solvents. This presents a risk of fire or explosion.
How to clean the pleated flat filter?
The pleated flat filter cleans itself every 15 seconds via the AC function (automatic cleaning). For manual cleaning, remove the filter and brush it gently. Never use the vacuum without a filter.
What should I do if the acoustic signal sounds?
The acoustic signal (only on the MX model) indicates a drop in air speed below 20 m/s. Check if the tank is full or if the suction system is blocked.
How to vacuum water with this vacuum cleaner?
To vacuum liquids, make sure the tank is in horizontal position. Conductive liquids cause automatic shutdown when the maximum level is reached. For non-conductive liquids, monitor the level and empty in time.
What type of filter should I use for fine dust?
To vacuum fine dust and facilitate disposal, use a collection bag or a felt filter bag in addition to the pleated flat filter (recommended for the MX model, compatible with the LX).
Can I use the vacuum cleaner on a generator?
Yes, provided the generator has sufficient power and complies with ISO 8528, class G2. The harmonic distortion factor must not exceed 10%.
How to change the pleated flat filter?
Unplug the vacuum, open the latches and remove the upper part. Remove the used filter while wearing a mask and gloves, then insert the new filter. Close carefully.
The vacuum cleaner does not start. What to check?
Check that the domestic fuse has not blown. Make sure the service mode switch is set to "I" and not in automatic mode (position "l").
How to safely transport the vacuum cleaner?
Carry the vacuum by the handle, never by the bracket. Lock the swivel wheels when transporting in a vehicle. For the MX model, close the suction connection with the sealing cap.
What if dust escapes from the vacuum cleaner?
Check that the pleated flat filter is properly installed. If the problem persists, replace the filter. Also ensure the upper part of the vacuum is properly closed.

Do not use this vacuum cleaner before your have thoroughly

read and completely understood this instructions manual and the enclosed “safety warnings”. The documents mentioned should be kept for later use and enclosed with the vacuum cleaner, should it be passed on or sold.

Please also observe the relevant national industrial safety regulations.

Intended use of the vacuum cleaner:

Wet/dry vacuum cleaner for vacuuming of non-hazardous dusts and dusts of dust category L (FEIN Dustex 35 LX AC ( ^ )) and dust category M (FEIN Dustex 35 MX AC ( ^ )), minor dust particles, particularly when carrying out dust-forming work with a power tool, and extraction of non-combustible liquids, in weather-protected environments using the application tools and accessories recommended by FEIN.

This vacuum cleaner is intended for commercial use, such as in hotels, schools, hospitals, factories, shops, offices and rental businesses.

Fein Dustex 35 LX AC - Only for Switzerland: - 1

WARNING

The vacuum cleaner contains materials that are hazardous to one's health. Have the emptying and maintenance, incl. the disposal of dust-collection containers, carried out

only by specialists. Appropriate protective equipment is required. Do not operate the vacuum cleaner without the complete filter system. Otherwise there is danger to your own health.

This vacuum cleaner is also suitable for use with AC generators with sufficient power output that correspond the the Standards ISO 8528, design type G2. This Standard is particularly not complied with when the so-called distortion factor exceeds 10 %. When in doubt, please refer to the generator instructions/specification guide.

Special safety instructions.

This vacuum cleaner is not intended to be used by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and/or knowledge.

Supervise children. This will ensure that they do not play with the vacuum cleaner.

WARNING

Operating personnel must be appropriately instructed in the use of this vacuum cleaner. Before usage, the person operating the vacuum cleaner must have been provided with information, instructions and training on using the vacuum cleaner and the materials to be vacuumed, including the safe procedure for disposal of vacuumed materials. The person operating the vacuum cleaner must observe the relevant safety regulations for the materials being vacuumed.

Wear personal protective equipment.

Depending on application, use face

shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. Where appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtrating particles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.

Operate the vacuum cleaner only from socket outlets with earthing contact that are according to regulations. Use only undamaged supply cords and regularly checked extension cords with earthing contact. A protective conductor without continuity can lead to electric shock.

The earthed connection socket discharges static charges. In connection with electrostatically discharging accessories (optional), this prevents the formation of sparks and current surges.

When wet vacuuming, operate the vacuum cleaner only when the container is level. Otherwise there is danger of electric shock from water penetrating into the vacuum cleaner motor.

Do not misuse the power supply cord to pull the vacuum cleaner around or pull the mains plug from the socket outlet. Keep the power supply cord away from heat, oil sharp edges, or moving parts. Do not drive over or pinch the power supply cord. Damaged or entangled power supply cords increase the risk of an electric shock.

Before replacing accessories, pull the mains plug from the socket outlet. This safety measure reduces the risk of electric shock.

Do not vacuum materials that are hazardous to one's health, e. g., dust from beech or oak wood, masonry dust, asbestos. These materials are considered carcinogenic.

Provide for good ventilation of the workplace.

Do not vacuum inflammable or explosive fluids; for example, benzene, oil, alcohol, solvents. Do not vacuum hot or inflammable dusts. Do not operate the vacuum cleaner in rooms where the danger of an explosion exists.

The dusts, vapours or fluids can ignite or explode.

Do not rivet or screw any name-plates or designs to the vacuum cleaner. If the insulation is damaged, protection against an electric shock will be ineffective. Adhesive labels are recommended.

Do not use accessories not specifically intended or recommended for this vacuum cleaner. Just because the accessory can be attached to your vacuum cleaner, it does not assure safe operation.

Before starting operation (see page 6-12), check the power supply cord and the mains plug for damage.

Fein Dustex 35 LX AC - WARNING - 1

WARNING

Use the vacuum cleaner's socket

outlet only for connection of an external power tool. The vacuum cleaner is automatically put into operation via the connected power tool.

The connected load of the power tool must not exceed the maximum con-

nected load of the vacuum cleaner's socket outlet P_A .

Please also observe the operating instructions and safety warnings of the power tool being connected to the socket outlet of the vacuum cleaner.

Recommendation: Always operate the vacuum cleaner via a residual current device (RCD) with a rated residual current of 30 mA or less.

The vacuum cleaner may only be stored indoors.

The allowable ambient temperature when vacuuming is -10 °C to +40 °C.

Using the vacuum cleaner at low temperatures is not permitted. At low temperatures, the mains cable can become damaged and thus impair the safety.

Operating Instructions.

Operation, see page 11/12.

An adequate ventilation rate L must be provided for when the outgoing air is circulated. The circulated airflow must not exceed 50 % (max.) of the fresh air volume (room volume x ventilation rate L_w ). The following applies without special ventilation measures:

$$ L _ {w} = 1 h ^ {- 1}. $$

In case of a short-circuit and/or heavy discharge of dust, switch the vacuum cleaner off immediately and disconnect it from the power supply.

Fein Dustex 35 LX AC - Operating Instructions. - 1

Do not use the vacuum cleaner as a step or stepladder. If the vacuum cleaner tips over, you could injure yourself or damage the vacuum cleaner.

Flat-fold filter

Changing the filter, see page 13–15/38 Section “Fault Finding.”

Wear personal protective equipment (respiratory mask, protective gloves) when changing the filter.

The filter may only be changed in rooms suitable for this, where other persons are not at hazard.

After removing the contaminated filter, clean the clean-gas side and the sealing surfaces using commercially available, non-scouring cleaning agents and water.

Fein Dustex 35 LX AC - Flat-fold filter - 1

CAUTION

Never vacuum without the flat-

fold filter, as otherwise the motor will become damaged and increased output of fine dust may pose a hazard to one's health.

For vacuuming dusts of dust category L or M, only dry flat-fold filters may be used that never were moist nor wet.

Before switching from wet to dry vacuuming, allow the flat-fold filter to dry or replace through a dry one. Otherwise, the flat-fold filter will become unusable.

Keep the flat-fold filter dry and clean it regularly.

Disposal bag, fleece filter bag (see page 8)

Only for FEIN Dustex 35 MX AC ( ^** ):

For vacuuming fine dust and for low-dust disposal, a disposal bag or fleece filter bag must additionally be used.

When inserting, work the disposal bag over the container rim. Pull the other opening of the disposal bag completely over the collar of the vacuum socket.

To remove, work the disposal bag up, and pull it out toward the rear via the vacuum socket. Seal off the disposal bag with the closing strip.

After vacuuming wet debris, always remove the disposal bag.

When inserting a fleece filter bag, take care that the closing cover and the fleece filter bag face completely against the inside wall of the container. The cardboard flange of the fleece filter bag must be pulled over the collar of the vacuum socket.

After removing the fleece filter bag, seal it with the closing cover in order to avoid debris.

Audio signal (see page 12) Only for FEIN Dustex 35 MX AC ( ^** ):

Set the selector switch for the vacuum-hose diameter to the appropriate value.

When the air velocity falls below 20 m/s, an audio signal will sound.

Empty the container and/or check the vacuum system for clogs.

Vacuum cleaner socket outlet (see page 11)

The switch position for switching the vacuum cleaner on is shown on page 11/12.

In switch position, the vacuum cleaner automatically starts as soon as the power tool connected to it is switched on.

Switch the vacuum cleaner off before connecting a power tool to the vacuum cleaner's socket outlet. Make sure that the power tool is switched off when inserting its plug into the vacuum cleaner's socket outlet.

After switching off a power tool connected to the vacuum cleaner's socket outlet, the vacuum cleaner will run on for approx. 15 seconds and then automatically switch off.

Wet vacuuming (see page 17)

When wet vacuuming electrically conductive liquids, the vacuum cleaner is automatically switched off (automatic shut-off) when reaching the maximum filling height of the container. Pull the mains plug from the socket outlet and empty the container.

When wet vacuuming electrically non-conductive liquids (e. g., oils, drilling emulsions), the vacuum cleaner is not automatically switched off when reaching the maximum filling height of the container. Empty the container in time.

Switch the vacuum cleaner off immediately as soon as foam or water comes out, and empty the container.

After completion of the wet vacuuming, clean the sensors and their intermediate area using a brush (see page 16).

Automatic filter dedusting (see page 12)

The AC function “Automatic Filter Cleaning” is factory set, meaning, the flat-fold filter is automatically cleaned every 15 seconds through several air blasts.

When vacuuming wet debris or when primarily vacuuming water, we recommend switching off the AC function “Automatic Filter Cleaning”.

Accessories (see page 9/20)

Mount accessories applying only slight pressure. For disassembling,

turn the parts somewhat against each other and pull apart.
