How to cook rice with the Tomado TRC1001S?

Measure the rice with the provided measuring cup (1 cup per person). Wash the rice, place it in the inner pot, add the same amount of water as rice (1 cup of water per cup of rice). Close the lid, plug in the appliance, turn on the rear switch, then press down the start button. The COOK indicator lights up. When cooking is complete, it automatically switches to keep warm (indicator WARM). Let it rest for 10 minutes before opening.

What if the rice is too dry or hard after cooking?

Add half to one cup of water, stir, close the lid and press the start button again to restart cooking. Check the consistency when the appliance switches to keep warm. Repeat if necessary.

What if the rice is too moist or sticky?

Stir the rice with the provided spoon to distribute moisture. Close the lid and leave in keep warm mode for 10 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Excess moisture will evaporate.

How to clean the rice cooker?

Unplug the appliance and let it cool. Wash the inner pot, lid and accessories with hot water and a mild detergent using a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse and dry. Clean the exterior with a damp cloth. Never immerse the appliance and do not use abrasive products.

Can I wash the inner pot in the dishwasher?

No, the appliance or its accessories should not be washed in the dishwasher. This could damage the non-stick coating and the appliance.

How to start cooking?

• First carefully read the instruction manual in full prior to using the appliance and store the manual in a safe place for future reference.

• Caution! Avoid contact with hot surfaces when the appliance is switched on.
• Caution! If the rice cooker is too full, it can overflow during cooking, causing hot water to spill out.
• Do not touch or cover the steam opening when in use. Be careful of the hot steam emitted by the steam opening.
• Be careful when opening the lid during or after cooking. Hot steam can be emitted by the device, and as a result, there is a risk of scalding.
• Only connect the appliance to alternate current, to an earthed wall socket, with a mains voltage that corresponds with the information provided on the information plate of the appliance.
• Never bend the power cord sharply or allow it to run across hot parts.
• Fully unwind the cord to prevent it from overheating.

PRIOR TO FIRST USE

Follow these instructions when using the rice cooker for the first time: Carefully remove the rice cooker from the packaging and remove all traces of packaging from the device. Keep the packaging (plastic bags and cardboard) out of reach of children. After unpacking the appliance, carefully check it for external damage that may have occurred during transport. Place the rice cooker on a heat-resistant base.

Clean the lid, inner pan, spoon and measuring cup with hot water and mild washing-up liquid. Dry these components thoroughly. Ensure that all moisture is removed from them. Wipe the outside of the rice cooker with a damp cloth. Place the inner pan in the rice cooker.

Check that the voltage stated on the information plate matches the voltage used in your region. Place the rice cooker on a flat, stable and heat-resistant base. Ensure sufficient ventilation space above the rice cooker.

Insert the mains cord in the connection of the rice cooker. Insert the plug in the socket and switch the ON/OFF button at the rear of the appliance to ON.

Do not place the rice cooker underneath an object such as a kitchen cabinet or shelf, as the hot steam may damage it.

Lift the lid off the rice cooker and take the inner pan out of the rice cooker.

Use the measuring cup provided to measure the required quantity of rice. One full measuring cup of uncooked rice is roughly equivalent to two measuring cups of boiled rice. One full measuring cup contains approximately 100 grams of rice. This is enough for one person.

1. Measure the desired amount of rice. (1 measuring cup per person)
2. Rinse the rice until the rinsing water becomes reasonably clear and briefly drain the rice.

Caution: Do not rinse the rice in the inner pan. The hard rice grains could damage the non-stick layer on the inside of the pan.

1. Place the rinsed rice in the inner pan.
2. Add the required quantity of water using the measuring cup. For one cup of white rice, one measuring cup of water must be added. The quantity markers in the inner pan are purely indicative and apply only to white rice. The quantity markers indicate how much water should be added to the inner pan depending on how many measuring cups of rice have been added. For softer rice, we recommend soaking the rice for 10-20 minutes before cooking it.
3. Check that the outside of the inner pan is properly dry and clean before placing it in the rice cooker. Ensure that the inner pan makes proper contact with the heating element. There should be no food residues or other hard particles between the inner pan and the heating element.
4. Place the lid on the pan.
5. Insert the mains cord in the connection of the rice cooker. Insert the plug in the socket and switch the ON/OFF button at the rear of the appliance to ON.
6. Press down the start button at the front under the indicator lights. The COOK indicator light switches on. To prevent steam being lost - which results in a longer cooking time - we advise that you do not open the lid while the rice is cooking unless necessary.
7. Once the rice is ready, the rice cooker will automatically switch to warm mode. The COOK indicator light goes out and the WARM indicator light remains on. Leave the rice for at least 10 minutes before opening the lid. The exact amount of time depends on the amount of rice cooked. The rice cooker keeps the rice warm until you pull the plug out of the socket. Do not leave the rice on warm mode for longer than 12 hours.
8. Press the start button upwards and lift the lid off the rice cooker. Caution: this may release hot steam. Use oven gloves if you wish to take the inner pan out of the rice cooker, as it may be hot.
9. Remove the rice from the inner pan with the provided spoon, to prevent damaging the non-stick layer.
10. Switch off the rice cooker by removing the plug from the socket or by switching off the ON/OFF button at the rear of the appliance.

Attention: It is important that the outside of the inner pan is completely clean and dry before it is placed in the rice cooker. The heating element can be damaged if water, food remnants or other dirt come into contact with it. Never use the inner pan for any other purposes than preparing rice in the rice cooker, for instance as a separate pan for cooking. The bottom will warp, making the inner pan unusable.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Before cleaning, always remove the plug from the socket and let the rice cooker cool down.

1. Remove the inner pan and wash it with hot water and mild washing-up liquid. Use a soft sponge or cloth.
2. Rinse the inner pan and then wipe it dry thoroughly.
3. Do the same with the lid and the accessories.

4. Clean the outside of the rice cooker with a damp cloth.

5. Never use aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents! This can damage the inner pan's non-stick layer.

6. The appliance itself cannot be washed in a dishwasher.
7. It is important that the outside of the inner pan is completely clean and dry before it is placed in the rice cooker.

The heating element can be damaged if water, food remnants or other dirt come into contact with it.

TIPS

Different types of rice produce different results. Below you can find a number of tips to help you achieve the desired consistency.

Problem Solution
The rice is too dry/hard after cooking.	If the rice is too dry or hard/tough when the rice cooker switches to warm mode, then you can soften up the rice by adding more water and extending the cooking time. Depending on how dry the rice is, add between half a measuring cup to a full measuring cup of water and stir. Close the lid and push the on/off switch downwards. When the rice cooker switches to warm mode, open the lid and check the consistency. If necessary, repeat the process of adding water and cooking until the rice is ready.
The rice is too wet/sticky after cooking.	If the rice is still too wet/sticky when the rice cooker switches to warm mode, stir the rice well with the spoon provided. This will more evenly distribute the wet rice at the bottom and release moisture. Close the lid and leave the rice on warm mode for another 10-30 minutes. Stir the rice regularly to release all of the excess moisture.
