USER MANUAL R18HV RYOBI
Safety, performance, and dependability have been given top priority in the design of your hand vac. INTENDED USE The product is intended to be used only by adults who have read and understood the instructions and warnings in this manual, and can be considered responsible for their actions. The product is intended for dry vacuuming in household or similar non-industrial applications. Do not use the product for any other purpose. WARNING Do not use the product to vacuum liquids of any kind.
HAND VACUUM SAFETY WARNINGS
Ŷ Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. Ŷ Know your product. Read operator’s manual carefully. Learn its applications and limitations, as well as the specific potential hazards related to the product. Following the rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or serious injury. Ŷ Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principals. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second. Ŷ Follow appliance manufacturer’s’ instructions regarding operation and power. Use of the appliance different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. Ŷ Use the correct product for the application. Ŷ Do not allow children to operate the product or play with the product as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used near children. Ŷ Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product. Ŷ To reduce the risk of personal injury and electric shock, the product should not be played with or placed where small children can reach it. Ŷ Use battery operated product only with specifically designated battery pack. Use of any other batteries may create a risk of fire. Ŷ Use RYOBI 18V ONE+ battery packs only. Do not use battery packs from other manufacturers. Ŷ The product is intended for household use only. Ŷ Use the product only for its intended use as described in this manual. Ŷ If the product is not working properly, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into water, return it to your nearest service centre. Ŷ Only use attachments and accessories specified by the manufacturer. Ŷ Do not handle charger or the product with wet hands. Ŷ Do not put any objects in ventilation openings. Do not use the product with any opening blocked. Keep openings free of dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce air flow. Ŷ Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the product. Do not use while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention may result in serious personal injury. Ŷ Never vacuum materials such as hot coals, cigarette butts, matches, etc. Ŷ Do not use the product without dust bowl or filter in place. Ŷ Use extra care when using the product on stairs. Ŷ Do not use the product to pick up hard objects such as nails, screws, coins, etc. Damage or injury could result. Ŷ Remove battery when the product is not in use and before servicing. Ŷ Do not place the product near fire or heat. They may explode. Ŷ The product should be charged in a location where the temperature is more than 10°C but less than 38°C. Ŷ Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes in contact with skin, wash at least 10 minutes then seek immediate medical attention. Ŷ Batteries vent hydrogen gas and can explode in the presence of a source of ignition, such as a pilot light. To reduce the risk of serious personal in jury, never use any cordless product in the presence of an open flame. An exploded battery can propel debris and chemicals. If exposed, flush with water immediately. Ŷ Do not place the product in closed bookcases or racks without proper ventilation. Allow a minimum distance of 5 cm from any foreign object. Ŷ Electric shock could occur if the battery is charged outdoors or on wet surfaces. Ŷ Keep the product dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Always use a clean cloth when cleaning. Ŷ Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations. Ŷ Save these instructions. Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct others who may use this tool. If you loan someone this tool, loan them these instructions also. Ŷ Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the product in unexpected situations. Ŷ When servicing the product, use only manufacturer’s replacement parts, accessories and attachments. Follow instructions in the Maintenance section of the manual. Use of unauthorised parts or failure to follow maintenance instructions may create a risk of shock or injury.
BATTERY AND CHARGER SAFETY
Ŷ Connect and disconnect the battery pack properly. Ɣ To install battery pack: – Place the battery pack on the product. – Make sure the latches on each side of the2 | English battery pack snap into place and the battery pack is secured on the product before beginning operation. Ɣ To remove battery pack: – Depress the latches on the side of the battery pack. – Remove the battery pack from the product. Ŷ A battery operated product with integral batteries or a separate battery pack must be recharged only with the specified charger for the battery. A charger that may be suitable for one type of battery may create a risk of fire when used with another battery. Ŷ Do not expose charger to wet or damp conditions. Ŷ Do not place batteries near fire or heat. They may explode. Ŷ Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130 °C may cause explosion. Ŷ Do not place product near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat. Ŷ Batteries can explode in the presence of a source of ignition, such as a pilot light. To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, never use any cordless product in the presence of open flame. An exploded battery can propel debris and chemicals. If exposed, flush with water immediately. Ŷ Battery products do not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet; therefore, they are always in operating condition. Be aware of possible hazards when not using your battery product or when changing accessories. Following the rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury. Ŷ Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type. Ŷ Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by the battery charger manufacturer may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injuries to person. Ŷ When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks, burns, or a fire. Ŷ To reduce risk of damage to charger body and cord, pull by charger plug rather than cord when disconnecting charger. Ŷ For best results, your battery product should be charged in a location where the temperature is more than 10°C (50°F) but less than 38°C (100°F). To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, do not store outside or in vehicles. Ŷ Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. Ŷ Do not charge battery product in a damp or wet location. Following the rule will reduce the risk of electric shock. Ŷ Make sure cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage and stress. Ŷ Do not crush, drop or damage battery pack. Do not use a battery pack or charger that has been dropped or received a sharp blow. A damaged battery is subject to explosion. Properly dispose of a dropped or damaged battery immediately. Ŷ An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If extension cord must be used, make sure: a) That pins on plug of extension cord are the same number, size and shape as those of plug on charger. b) That extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Ŷ Do not operate charger with a damaged cord or plug. If damaged, have it replaced immediately by a qualified serviceman. Ŷ Do not disassemble charger; take it to a qualified serviceman when service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of electric shock or fire. Ŷ Disconnect charger from power supply when not in use. Ŷ Risk of electric shock. Do not touch uninsulated portion of output connector or uninsulated battery terminal. Ŷ Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury. Ŷ Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the appliance before being charged. Ŷ Different types of batteries or new and used batteries are not to be mixed. Ŷ Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity. Ŷ Exhausted batteries are to be removed from the appliance and safely disposed of. Ŷ If the appliance is to be stored unused for a long period, the batteries should be removed. Ŷ The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited. Ŷ Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes in contact with your skin, wash immediately with soap and water. If liquid gets into your eyes, flush them with clean water for at least 10 minutes, then seek immediate medical attention. Following the rule will reduce the risk of serious personal injury. Ŷ Do not dispose of used battery packs in the household refuse or by burning them. Take them to an appropriate disposal/collection site.
ADDITIONAL BATTERY SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING To reduce the risk of fire, personal injury, and product damage due to a short circuit, never immerse your tool, battery pack or charger in fluid or allow a fluid to flow inside them. Corrosive or conductive fluids, such as seawater, certain industrial chemicals, and bleach or bleach-containing products, etc., can cause a short circuit.3 English |
Ŷ Transport the battery in accordance with local and national provisions and regulations. Ŷ Follow all special requirements on packaging and labelling when transporting batteries by a third party. Ensure that no batteries can come in contact with other batteries or conductive materials while in transport by protecting exposed connectors with insulating, non- conductive caps or tape. Do not transport batteries that are cracked or leaking. Check with the forwarding company for further advice.

MAINTENANCE Ŷ Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision. Ŷ Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the product has been damaged in any way, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the product, the product has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped. Ŷ When servicing, use only original manufacturer’s replacement parts. Use of any other part could create a hazard or cause product damage. Ŷ Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and can be damaged by their use. Use dry cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc. Ŷ Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum based products, penetrating oils, etc., come in contact with plastic parts.
