Initial startup
△ DANGER
Risk of electric shock and risk of injury!
The device contains electrical and mechanical components.
Always disconnect the device from the power supply before assembling, disassembling or cleaning.
Note
The shorter the hose length and larger the hose diameter, the higher the delivery rate.
To avoid clogging the pump, use a pre-filter for hose diameters smaller than 1 1/4 inches.
SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor: Accessories
- SP 22000 Dirt Level Sensor: Integrated in the foot. The pump connection is equipped with a plug system (Quick-Connect).
The connection nozzle with G 1 1/2 pump connecting piece is supplied unmounted with the device.
Note
Hoses with a diameter of 1 inch, 1 1/4 inch, and 1 1/2 inch can be connected to the pump connecting piece G 1 1/2.
A sufficiently large hose diameter must be selected and the pump connecting piece must be shortened according to the grooves so that the required particle size can be used. A large hose diameter is also recommended for smaller particle sizes to allow a high flow volume.
Connecting the hose to the pump:
1. Screw the G 1 1/2 pump connecting piece onto the connection nozzle.
Illustration B
2. Push the hose clamp onto the hose.
3. Push the hose onto the G 1 1/2 pump connecting piece and fasten it with a hose clamp. 4. Push the connection nozzle into the Quick-Connect. Illustration C
Erecting/immersing the pump:
1 Push the level sensor onto the rail from above. Illustration D
2 Fold the feet out or in. (SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor) Illustration E
Note
The feet do not necessarily need to be folded out, but folding out the feet provides a higher delivery rate. Folding the feet in allows flat suction of liquids to a residual fluid height of 1 mm.
3 Installing/removing the pre-filter. (SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor) Illustration E
Note
It is not necessary to install the pre-filter, but a higher delivery rate is reached by installing the pre-filter (only for SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor). The pumped liquid is pre-filtered by the pre-filter to protect the pump from heavy contamination. Particles of up to 5 mm can still be pumped when using the filter. Removing the pre-filter allows flat suction of liquids to a residual fluid height of 1 mm (only for SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor). 4 Place the pump securely on solid ground in the pumped liquid or immerse it via a rope attached to the carrying handle.
Note
The suction area must not be blocked by soiling. If the ground is muddy, place the pump on a brick or similar. Make sure that the pump stands level. Do not carry the pump using the cable or hose.
Operation
△DANGER
Danger of death from electric shock.
Danger of death from electric shock if live parts are touched.
During operation, do not touch the rope attached to the carrying handle or any objects that are in contact with the pumped liquid (e.g. pipelines protruding into the pumped liquid, railings) and do not reach into the pumped liquid.
Automatic venting device
- If the fluid level is low, any sucked-in air, or air present in the pump, may escape via the automatic venting device. Fluid can also leak along with air. If the pump has problems with suction when the fluid level is low, unplug and plug in the mains plug repeatedly to assist the suction process. Illustration F
Automatic mode
Note
In automatic mode, the level sensor controls the pumping process automatically. The pump switches on when the level sensor makes contact with the rising pumped liquid.
The pump switches off when the level sensor loses contact with the falling pumped liquid and an after-running time of 15 s has expired.
Illustration G
Switching on:
Minimum fluid level required to enable the pump to suck independently (= minimum switch-on point):
- SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor: 7 mm (57 mm when using the pre-filter) SP 22000 Dirt Level Sensor: 50 mm
Highest adjustable switching height of the level sensor:
- SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor: 190 mm (240 mm when using the pre-filter) SP 22000 Dirt Level Sensor: 237 mm
Minimum residual fluid height/max. suction depth:
- SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor: 1 mm (without pre-filter, with folded feet) SP 22000 Dirt Level Sensor: 35 mm
Note
It is recommended to use the pre-filter.
Note
Make sure that the pump stands level. Otherwise the level sensor may not lose contact with the fluid and the pump can run dry.
- Push the level sensor to the desired switch-on height (contact with the pumped liquid).
Note
The higher the level sensor is set, the higher the switch-on and switch-off points. See the following table for application examples:
| Application area | SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor | SP 22000 Dirt Level Sensor |
| Shafts with a diameter < approx. 1 m (e.g. drain-age) | Level sensor in uppermost position | Level sensor in uppermost position |
| We recommend- ed using the pre-filter | Pre-filter flap closed (protection against soiling) |
| Swimming pools, ponds (only for SP 22000 Dirt Level Sensor) | Level sensor in lowest position | Level sensor in lowest position |
| Starting pumping with the pre-filter or folded-out feet | Pre-filter flap closed (protection against soiling) |
| Continuing pumping without the pre-filter and folded-in feet (reach- es a residual fluid height of 1 mm) Note Perform in manu- al mode. Monitor the switch-off/ shallow suction. | |
- Set the switch to Automatic mode (AUTO). Illustration H
- Plug the mains plug into a mains socket.
Manual mode
Note
In manual mode, the pump stays switched on.
- Set the switch to Manual mode (MAN).
Illustration H
- Plug the mains plug into a mains socket.
ATTENTION
Risk of damage from dry running!
Dry running leads to increased wear on the pump.
Do not leave the pump unattended in manual operation.
In case of dry running, immediately pull the mains plug out of the socket.
Flat suction (SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor)
It is recommended to use manual mode to reach the min. residual fluid height of 1mm
A check valve is installed in the SP 17000 Flat Level Sensor. This prevents residual fluid in the hose from flowing back after the pumping process finishes.
Finishing operation
- Pull the mains plug out of the socket.
The device stops.

Start-up
DANGER
Danger of electric shock and burns!
The device contains electrical and mechanical components.
Disconnect the device from the power supply before filling, emptying, disassembling or cleaning.
Note
The smaller the marking size and the smaller the diameter of the marking, the higher the pumping power.
When installing on a manifold with a diameter smaller than 11/4", pre-drill the cylinder.
SP 17.000 Flat level sensor: with adjustable feet SP 22.000 Dirt level sensor: integrated support bracket
The pump connection is equipped with a quick-connect system.
The connection fitting with the connecting element for pump G 1 ½ is supplied with the device, but not installed.
Note
To the connection element of the pump G 1 1/2, manifolds with diameters 1 ,11/4 and 11/2 can be connected.
To be able to measure the grain size of 20 liters, the diameter of the manifold and the connecting element of the pump must be adjusted accordingly. When measuring smaller grain sizes, it is recommended to reduce the diameter of the manifold to increase the flow rate.
Connecting the manifold to the pump:
1 Screw the connecting element of the pump G 11/2 onto the connection fitting. 2 Place the manifold clamp on the manifold. 3 Place the manifold on the connecting element of the pump G 1 1/2 and secure it with the manifold clamp. 4 Insert the connection fitting into the Quick-Connect.
Figure C
Adjustment/Leveling of the pump:
1 Place the level sensor on the top of the tank. Figure D 2 Unscrew or screw in the support feet. (SP 17.000 Flat level sensor)
Figure E
Note
Adjusting the support feet is not absolutely necessary, but it achieves greater stability of the device. Adjusting the support feet allows leveling from a flat base surface to a level difference of 1 mm.
3. Mounting, resp. demounting the pre-filter. (SP 17.000 Flat sensor for air)
Figure E
Note
Mounting of the pre-filter is not absolutely necessary; through it a greater suction power is achieved (only with
SP 17.000 Flat sensor for air). Thanks to the pre-filter, the suction hose is pre-filtered, to protect the motor from coarse dirt. When using the filter, parts up to 5 mm in size can be sucked up. Demounting of the pre-filter allows suction from the base surface due to the distance to it of the remaining hose 1 mm (only with SP 17.000 Flat sensor for air).
4. Place the device stably on a firm base in the shade for suction or on the ceiling with the help of the bracket attached to the handle.
Note
The suction area must not be blocked by obstructions. When placing the device on a soft or uneven surface, place it on a firm base.
Ensure that the device is in a horizontal position. Do not carry the device by holding onto the cable or the hose.
Operation
DANGER
Danger to life due to electric shock!
When contacting live parts, there is a danger to life due to electric shock. During operation, do not touch the bracket attached to the handle and any objects that are in contact with the suction hose (e.g., do not reach into the suction hose with tools, etc.) and do not insert anything into the suction hose.
Automatic shut-off device
- When the liquid level in the device reaches the maximum level, the suction is automatically interrupted. In addition to air, liquid can also be sucked in.
If the liquid level is too low or there are problems with the suction, turn the device off and on again to reset the suction process.
Figure F
Automatic mode
Note
In automatic mode, the level sensors control the pumping process automatically. The device switches on when the level sensor comes into contact with the liquid being pumped.
The device switches off when the level sensor loses contact with the falling liquid level and after 15 seconds of idle operation.
Figure G
Switching on:
Minimum required liquid level for the device to be able to switch on independently (= minimum switching point):
- SP 17.000 Flat level sensor: 7 mm (57 mm when using the pre-filter) SP 22.000 Dirt level sensor: 50 mm
Maximum adjustable switching height of the level sensor:
- SP 17.000 Flat level sensor: 190 mm (240 mm when using the pre-filter)
- SP 22.000 Dirt level sensor: 237 mm
Minimum residual liquid level / max. suction depth:
SP 17.000 Flat level sensor: 1 mm (without pre-filter, with the support feet removed) SP 22.000 Dirt level sensor: 35 mm
Instruction
The device is intended for use with a pre-filter.
Instruction
Make sure the sensor is in a horizontal position. Otherwise, the sensor may not function correctly and may cause damage to the device.
