USER MANUAL ONE CAG180M RYOBI
SafetyWarningsCommon forGrinding,Sanding, WireBrushing,PolishingOperations:
This power tool is intended to function as a grinder. Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
- Operations such as sanding, wire brushing, polishing or cutting-off are not recommended to be performed with this power tool. Operations for which the power tool was not designed may create a hazard and cause personal injury.
- Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the tool manufacturer. Just because the accessory can be attached to your power tool, it does not assure safe operation.
- The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their rated speed can break and fly apart.
- The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must be within the capacity rating of your power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately guarded or controlled.
- The arbour size of wheels, flanges, backing pads or any other accessory must properly fit the spindle of the power tool. Accessories with arbour holes that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool will run out of balance, vibrate excessively and may cause loss of control.
- Do not use a damaged accessory. Before each use inspect the accessory such as abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, backing pad for cracks, tear or excess wear, wire brush for loose or cracked wires. If power tool or accessory is dropped, inspect for damage or install an undamaged accessory. After inspecting and installing an accessory, position yourself and bystanders away from the plane of the rotating accessory and run the power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute. Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.
- Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. The dust mask or respirator must
be capable of filtrating particles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.
- Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyone entering the work area must wear personal protective equipment. Fragments of workpiece or of a broken accessory may fly away and cause injury beyond immediate area of operation.
- Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and shock the operator.
Position the cord clear of the spinning accessory. If you lose control, the cord may be cut or snagged and your hand or arm may be pulled into the spinning accessory. - Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to a complete stop. The spinning accessory may grab the surface and pull the power tool out of your control.
- Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact with the spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into your body.
- Regularly clean the power tool's air vents. The motor's fan will draw the dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause electrical hazards.
- Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials. Sparks could ignite these materials.
- Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants. Using water or other liquid coolants may result in electrocution or shock.
Further safety instructions for all operations Kickback and RelatedWarnings
Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating wheel, backing pad, brush or any other accessory. Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling of the rotating accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolled power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the accessory's rotation at the point of the binding.
For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the wheel that is entering into the pinch point can dig into the surface of the material causing the wheel to climb out or kick out. The wheel may either jump toward or away from the operator, depending on direction of the wheel's movement at the point of pinching. Abrasive wheels may also break under these conditions.
English
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL OPERATIONS
Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.
- Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over kickback or torque reaction during start-up. The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken.
- Never place your hand near the rotating accessory. Accessory may kickback over your hand.
- Do not position your body in the area where power tool will move if kickback occurs. Kickback will propel the tool in direction opposite to the wheel's movement at the point of snagging.
- Use special care when working corners, sharp edges etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the accessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have a tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause loss of control or kickback.
- Do not attach a saw chain woodcarving blade or toothed saw blade. Such blades create frequent kickback and loss of control.
Additional safety instructions for grinding operations
SafetyWarnings Specific for Grinding Operations:
- Use only wheel types that are recommended for your power tool and the specific guard designed for the selected wheel. Wheels for which the power tool was not designed cannot be adequately guarded and are unsafe.
- The guard must be securely attached to the power tool and positioned for maximum safety, so the least amount of wheel is exposed towards the operator. The guard helps to protect operator from broken wheel fragments and accidental contact with wheel.
- Wheels must be used only for recommended applications.
Always use undamaged wheel flanges that are of correct size and shape for your selected wheel. Proper wheel flanges support the wheel thus reducing the possibility of wheel breakage. - Do not use worn down wheels from larger power tools. Wheel intended for larger power tool is not suitable for the higher speed of a smaller tool and may burst.
ANGLE GRINDER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Check that the speed marked on the grinding wheel is equal to or greater than the rated speed of the tool.
- Ensure that the dimensions of the grinding wheel are compatible with the tool and that the wheel fits the spindle.
Grinding wheels must be stored in a dry place.
Grinding wheels must not be used for any operation other than grinding.
Grinding wheels must be stored and handled with care in accordance with the manufacturer's instruction.
Inspect the grinding wheel before use to ensure that it is not chipped or cracked. Chips or cracks can cause the wheels to shatter, resulting in possible serious injury. - Ensure that the wheel is fitted in accordance with this manual.
- Ensure that the grinding wheel is correctly mounted and tightened before use and run the tool at no-load speed for 30 seconds in a safe position. Stop immediately if there is considerable vibration or if other defects are detected. If this condition occurs, check the tool to determine the cause.
- Do not use separate reducing bushings or adapters to adapt large hole grinding wheels.
Check that the work piece is properly supported.
Use only grinding wheels approved by authorized service centre - Ensure that sparks resulting from use do not create a hazard e.g. do not hit people, or ignite flammable substances.
Always use protective safety glasses and ear protectors.
Use other personal protective equipment such as gloves, apron and helmet when necessary. - Never place the tool on the floor or other surfaces while it is running.
Grinding wheels continue to rotate after the tool is switched off. - Never touch the wheel or place it on the floor or other surfaces while it is rotating.
The flange and clamp nut must have same outer diameter. - Do not remove the soft paper in the center of the grinding wheel. (If the paper has been previously removed, insert some soft paper or rubber between grinding wheel and flange.)
Use the tool only for approved applications. Never use coolants or water or use the tool as a fixed tool.
Grip the tool securely with both hands while operating.

English
OPERATION
OPERATING THE GRINDER (Fig. 10)
Always carefully select and use grinding wheels that are recommended for the material to be ground. Make sure that the minimum operating speed of any accessory wheel selected is 6,500 r/min. or more. The grinding wheel provided with the grinder is suitable for grinding welds, preparing surfaces to be welded, grinding structural steel, and grinding stainless steel.
To operate the grinder
- Secure all work in a vise or clamp to a workbench.

DANGER
Never use the grinder with the guard removed. It has been designed for use only with the guard installed. Attempting to use grinder with guard removed will result in loose particles being thrown against the operator resulting in serious personal injury.
Hold the grinder in front and away from you with both hands, keeping the grinding wheel clear of the workpiece.
Turn on the grinder and let the motor and grinding wheel build up to full speed.
Lower the grinder gradually until the grinding wheel contacts the workpiece.
- Keep the grinder tilted at an angle from 5^ to 15^ .

WARNING
o prevent loss of control and possible serious personal injury, always operate the grinder with both hands, keeping one hand on the side handle.
Move the grinder continuously at a steady, consistent.

CAUTION
If the grinder is held in one spot too long, it will gouge and cut grooves in the workpiece. If the grinder is held at too sharp an angle, it will also gouge the workpiece because of concentration of pressure on a small area.
Use just enough pressure to keep the grinder from chattering or bouncing.
NOTE: Heavy pressure will decrease the grinder's speed and put a strain on the motor. Normally the weight of the tool alone is adequate for most grinding jobs. Use light pressure when grinding jagged edges or loose bolts where there is the potential for the grinder to snag on the metal edge.
- Lift the grinder away from the workpiece before turning off the grinder.
MAINTENANCE

WARNING
When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage.

WARNING
Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields during power product operation or when blowing dust. If operation is dusty, also wear a dust mask.

WARNING
To avoid serious personal injury, always remove the battery pack from the product when cleaning or performing any maintenance.
Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.

All Ryobi products are guaranteed against manufacturing defects and defective parts for a period of twenty four (24) months from the date stated on the original invoice drawn up by the retailer and given to the end user.
Deterioration caused by normal wear and tear, unauthorised or improper use or maintenance, or overload are excluded from this guarantee as are accessories such as battery packs, light bulbs, blades, fittings, bags, etc. In the event of malfunction during the warranty period, please take the NON-DISMANTLED product, along with the proof of purchase, to your retailer or nearest Authorised Ryobi Service Centre.
This warranty in no way affects your legal rights concerning defective products.

GARANTIE - CONDITIONS
The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured in accordance with a standardised test given in EN 60745 and may be used to compare one tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the tool. However if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period.
An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period. Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisation of work patterns.
