USER MANUAL FS 3611 SEVERIN
Before using the appliance, please read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions.
Connection to the mains supply
Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label of the appliance. This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.

Important safety instructions
In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see appendix).
Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it.
This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.
Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.
Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised.
The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.
- Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children - such materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.
Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as
well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
- Caution: The cutter blade is extremely sharp.
- Warning: Do not touch the sealing bar or silicone gasket. There is a danger of burns.

Do not attempt to remove liquid of any kind by means of the suction function. Should this occur, press the STOP button immediately.
Always remove the plug from the wall socket -
in case of any malfunction,
- after use, and also
-
before cleaning the appliance.

When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
- Do not allow the housing or the power cord to touch hot surfaces such as hotplates, or come into contact with any open heat sources.

No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as -
in shops, offices and other similar working environments,
- in agricultural working environments,
- by customers in hotels, motels etc.
and similar establishments, - in bed-and breakfast type environments.
Intermittent operation
The appliance is designed for intermittent operation only, ie it must be allowed to cool down for around 40 seconds after each cycle, before it can be used again. Also, to prevent overheating, it must be allowed to cool down for two minutes after a total operating time of 10 minutes.
Using the cutter
To cut bags or film to the required size, place the bag/ film onto the appliance, hold it in position and slide the cutter blade across.
Use with bags
Preparing the bags
- Put the prepared food into a bag, ensuring that the bag opening remains absolutely clean and dry.
Hint: For easy, clean filling of the bags, turn down the rim around the opening a few cm. After filling, unroll the rim again.
- Fill the bags only up to max. 5 cm below the opening.
If necessary, the food may be dabbed with a kitchen towel first to remove any residual liquid from the outside.
Preparing for sealing
- Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet.
- Push the 'RELEASE' buttons on the side to open the cover.
- Lift up the cover.
Air extraction and sealing:
- Place the filled bag with its open end in the centre of the vacuum chamber. Ensure that the suction opening is not blocked by the bag. The bag opening must be clean and free of any wrinkles or creases where it touches the sealing bar.
- Fold the cover down.
- Push the outer corners of the cover firmly down until it is heard locking into place on both sides.
- Press the VAC/SEAL button. The button lights up.
- Ensure that the vacuum pump does not suck in any liquid. But if it does, press the STOP button immediately.
Once all the air is extracted, the bag opening is automatically sealed. The SEAL button remains lit until the sealing process is complete. - Push the 'RELEASE' buttons on the side to open the cover and remove the sealed bag.
Air extraction and sealing of delicate or very moist foods:
- This appliance also allows for easy and safe vacuum-sealing of delicate foods (eg cakes, bread) as well as foods with a high moisture content (eg marinated meats).
Once connected to the mains, the standard functions NORMAL and DRY are selected by default.
Using the MODE button, you may select the setting SENSITIVE for sensitive foods, or use the FOOD option to select WET for very moist foods.
Having selected the required function, the air-extraction and sealing process may be started by pushing the VAC/ SEAL button. - Keep monitoring the extraction. Should the vacuum become too strong despite the SENSITIVE/WET setting, interrupt the suction process by pressing STOP, and then start the sealing process manually using the SEAL button.
Hint: Even liquid foods may be vacuum sealed without problems, if they have been deep-frozen before.
Sealing only:
- Place the filled bag with its open end onto the sealing bar. The bag opening must be clean and free of any wrinkles or creases.
- Fold the cover down.
- Push the outer corners of the cover firmly down until it is heard locking into place on both sides.
Press the SEAL button.
The bag opening is automatically sealed. The SEAL button remains lit until the sealing process is complete.
- Push the 'RELEASE' buttons on the side to open the cover and remove the sealed bag.
- Should any residual liquid be found inside the sealed seam, wipe the seam dry and let it go through another sealing cycle. Caution: The bag opening must be absolutely dry, to guarantee a seal that is safe and airtight.
- Disconnect the appliance from the mains.
Using with a vacuum container
(Vacuum container not included)

Preparing the container
- Place the prepared food in a vacuum container.
- Replace the lid on the container.
- Caution: The rim of the container (seals, gaskets etc.) must be absolutely clean, dry and free of fat or oil!
Preparing the air-extraction process
- Connect the appliance to the mains.
- Slide the connecting hose firmly onto the suction outlet on the right-hand side of the unit.
- Fit the other end of the hose to the valve on the vacuum container.
- Set the valve on the container to the vacuum position.
Air extraction:
- Press the CANISTER button.
- The CANISTER button remains lit while the air is being extracted from the container.
- Once the process is complete, the CANISTER button light goes out and the hose can be removed.
- Set the valve on the container to the 0 position.
- To interrupt the process, press the STOP button.
- Disconnect the appliance from the mains.
Opening the container
To open the vacuum container, set the valve on the container to the position.
- Once air is admitted, the lid can be taken off.
Cleaning and care
- Before cleaning the appliance, always remove the plug from the wall outlet.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it.
- The exterior of the housing may be cleaned with a damp, lint-free cloth.
- To clean the vacuum chamber, sealing bar or silicone gasket of any persistent residues, allow the appliance to cool down first and then carefully remove the residues with a damp cloth.
- The vacuum container should be cleaned after each use with warm soapy water; dry thoroughly afterwards. Do not use a dishwasher.
Replacement bags and film rolls
Any regular vacuum film bags or rolls with a knobbed surface structure may be used with this appliance. This type of surface allows optimum air extraction. The width of the bag/roll must not exceed 30~cm .
Suitable replacement bags/rolls are available at household stores or may be obtained through SEVERIN Service, quoting article no.

Guarantee
This product is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. Under this guarantee the manufacturer undertakes to repair or replace any parts found to be defective, providing the product is returned to one of our authorised service centres. This guarantee is only valid if the appliance has been used in accordance with the instructions, and provided that it has not been modified, repaired or interfered with by any unauthorised person, or damaged through misuse.
This guarantee naturally does not cover wear and tear, nor breakables such as glass and ceramic items, bulbs etc. This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights, nor any legal rights you may have as a consumer under applicable national legislation governing the purchase of goods. If the product fails to operate and needs to be returned, pack it carefully, enclosing your name and address and the reason for return. If within the guarantee period, please also provide the guarantee card and proof of purchase.
