• Read the instructions for use carefully before using your appliance for the first time: Any commercial use, inappropriate use or failure to comply with the instructions, the manufacturer accepts no responsibility and the guarantee will not apply.

• This appliance is intended for indoor, domestic household use only.

• It is not intended to be used in the following applications, and the guarantee will not apply for: – staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments; – farm houses; – by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments; – bed and breakfast type environments.

• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by an adult responsible for their safety.11

• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

• This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children less than 8 years.

• The symbol means: Caution, hot surface.

• Accessible surface temperatures can be high when the appliance is operating. Do not touch the hot surfaces of the appliance.

• This appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote- control system.

• If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its after sales service in order to avoid a hazard.

• Wash the plates with a damp sponge. Use a cloth to clean the body of the appliance.12

• This appliance can be used up to an altitude below 4000metres.

• Always plug the appliance into an earthed socket.

• Make sure that the electric power supply is compatible with the power rating and voltage indicated on the bottom of the appliance.

• Do not use an extension lead. If you accept liability for doing so, only use an extension lead which is in good condition, has a plug with an earth connection and is suited to the power rating of the appliance.

• If parts of the appliance should catch fire, never try to extinguish flames with water. Disconnect the appliance and smother the flames with a damp cloth.

• Fully unwind the power cord before plugging in the appliance.

• Remove all packaging materials, stickers and accessories from the inside and the outside of the appliance (fig 1).

• Never disconnect the plug by pulling on the cord.

• Never leave the appliance plugged in when not in use.

• Never place the appliance directly on a fragile surface (glass table, tablecloth, varnished furniture, etc.) or on a soft surface such as a tea- towel.

• Never place the appliance on or near hot or slippery surfaces; the power cord must never be close to or in contact with hot parts of the appliance, close to a source of heat or resting on sharp edges.

• Do not place cooking utensils on the cooking surfaces of the appliance.

• To preserve the cooking surface do not use metallic utensils. DO NOT

• CAUTION: the safety precautions, common to different versions depending on the accessories supplied with your appliance, are part of the appliance. Read them carefully before using your new appliance for the first time. Keep them in a place where you can find and refer to them later on.

• Any intervention other than normal cleaning and maintenance by the customer must be performed by an Approved Service Centre.

• Position the power cord carefully, whether an extension is used or not, so that guests can move freely around the table without tripping over it.

• Cooking fumes may be dangerous for animals which have a particularly sensitive respiratory system, such as birds. We advise bird owners to keep them away from the cooking area.

• Always use on a flat, stable, heat-resistant work surface away from water splashes and other sources of heat.

• If the appliance is used in the centre of the table, keep it out of the reach of children.

• If an accident occurs, rinse the burn immediately with cold water and call a doctor if necessary.

• Always unplug the appliance prior to any cleaning or maintenance.14

• Thank you for buying this appliance, which is intended for domestic use only.

• For your safety, this appliance conforms to applicable standards and regulations (Low Voltage Directive, Electromagnetic Compatibility, Environment, Materials in contact with food…).

• On first use, there may be a slight odour and a little smoke during the first few minutes.

• Our company has an ongoing policy of research and development and may modify these products without prior notice.

• Any solid or liquid foods that come into contact with parts marked with the symbol are unfit for consumption.

• Only use accessories supplied with the appliance or acquired from an approved service centre. ADVICE/INFORMATION

• Never handle the grease collection tray when the appliance is hot. If the grease collection tray be comes full during cooking, allow the appliance to cool before emptying it (depending on model).

• Never cut food directly on the plates.

• Do not use metal scourers or scouring powders to avoid damaging the cooking surface (non-stick coating).

• Never immerse the appliance, power cord or plug in water or any other liquid. They are not dishwasher safe.

• Do not put the grill under running water.

• Do not use a wet cloth or wet sponge to clean the outside of the grill, wipe with a warm, damp sponge and dry with a soft, dry cloth.

• To avoid spoiling your appliance, do not use flambé recipes in connection with it at any time.

• Do not use aluminium foil or other objects between the plate and the food being cooked. Do not cook food in aluminium foil.15

• Before using for the first time, thoroughly clean the plates with warm water and a little dishwashing liquid, rinse and dry thoroughly (fig 2).

• The grill is made up of two independent removable plates (A) that can be used either separately or together. When you install the plates, make sure that they are well placed. It is necessary that both plates are installed on the appliance, even if you only intend to use one (fig 3).

• Make sure the drip tray (E) is in position (fig 4). PREHEATING

• Unwind the cord completely (fig 5).

• Do not touch the metal parts of the appliance while it is preheating or being used because they are very hot.

• Make sure the thermostat controls (D) are at the minimum position and then plug the cord into a wall outlet.

• The ON lights (C) will turn on and remain on to indicate that the cord is plugged in (fig 6).

• Preheat the grill(s) by adjusting the thermostat controller(s) in the desired position until the READY LED (B) indicator lights turn-on (fig 7 & 8). Before discarding your appliance, the battery from the timer has to be removed and disposed at a local civic waste collection centre or an approved service centre. (According model). Environment protection first! Your appliance contains valuable materials which can be recovered or recycled. Leave it at a local civic waste collection point. ENVIRONMENT16

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

When you are finished cooking

• Put the thermostat control(s) (D) in the minimum position (fig 11).

• Unplug the cord from the wall outlet and let the appliance cool down completely before handling (fig 12-13). • Increase or decrease the cooking temperature according to your taste and to the nature of the food being prepared (quantity, thickness, etc.)

• Wait for the READY LED indicator to turn on: This indicates that the grill has reached the desired cooking temperature.

• For best results and to keep the food from sticking, always make sure to cook on a clean surface. Note: You can set each thermostat at different temperatures if needed depending on what you are cooking.

• You are now ready to start cooking, place your food on the cooking plates (fig 9 & 10).

• The READY LED indicator will intermittently turn on and off while the appliance is in use to indicate that the temperature is being maintained.17

TROUBLESHOOTING Problems Possible solutions No indicator light on. Check the connection to the wall socket. If the problem persists try connecting the unit to a different outlet. The ready indicator light is off. The ready indicator light switches on when the appliance reaches the selected temperature, this can take 6 to 10 minutes. Your food is not cooked properly. Ensure that the ready indicator light is on when you add food. Put the thermostat control on the maximum position (sear), if this is not already the case. Your TEFAL Smoke- less grill is producing more smoke than usual. The amount of smoke depends on the fattiness or oil content of the ingredients you are cooking. To prevent excessive smoke during cooking, you can:

• Avoid cooking ingredients with excessive marinade or sauce.

• Make sure you have cleaned your grates properly before using it. You can also wipe them in between each cycle to remove residual fat and crumbs. Tips Especially for meat: The cooking results may vary depending on origin, cut and quality of the food being cooked, the programs have been set and tested for high quality food. Similarly, the thickness of the meat has to be taken into account during cooking; food that is thicker than

3.50 cm cannot be prepared on this product.

• The plates can be washed in warm soapy water or in the dishwasher. Never use an abrasive cleanser or harsh pad on the non-stick coating (fig 14-15).

• To clean the inner reflector (housing), remove the cooking plates and lift the appliance to access it from underneath (fig 16).
