In thermoelectric mode (connection to 12 Vg), it can cool goods down to max. 20 °C below ambient temperature and keep them cool. In compressor mode (connection to 230 V), it can cool goods down to –15 °C and keep them cool. In compressor mode, you can use the continuously variable thermostat to set the temperature within a range from +12 °C to –15 °C.

6.1 Description of the device

CAUTION! Health hazard! Food may only be stored in its original packaging or in suitable containers.

NOTE Before starting your new cooling device for the first time, you should clean it inside and outside with a damp cloth for hygienic reasons (please also refer to the chapter “Cleaning and mainte- nance” on page 12). A few water drops may form inside the cooler if it has been cool- ing for a lengthy period. This is normal because the moisture in the air condenses to water when the temperature in the cooler falls. The cooler is not defective. Wipe it out with a dry cloth if necessary.

7.1 Energy saving tips

Choose a well ventilated installation location which is protected against direct sunlight. Allow warm food to cool down first before placing it in the device to keep cool. Do not open the cooling device more often than necessary. Do not leave the cooler unit open for longer than necessary. _B40.book Seite 10 Mittwoch, 20. April 2011 3:28 15EN B40 DC/AC Operation

NOTICE! Risk of damage Only operate the device from a single energy source. Simultaneous use of the thermoelectric cooling system and the compressor is not permitted. Ensure that the objects or goods placed in the cooling device are suitable for cooling to the selected temperature. Ensure that food or liquids in glass containers are not excessively refrigerated. Liquids expand when they freeze and can therefore destroy glass containers. Ensure that your cooler is well ventilated so that any heat created can dissipate. Otherwise proper functioning cannot be ensured. It is especially important not to cover the air vents. ➤ Place the cooler on a firm base. Connecting the cooler to 12 V (thermoelectric mode)

NOTE In thermoelectric mode, the thermostat has no function and the device cannot deep freeze. ➤ Make sure the cable between the cooler and the battery is protected by a fuse (maximum 5 A). ➤ Plug the 12-V connection cable (fig. 1 2, page 3) into the cigarette lighter socket or a 12-V socket in the vehicle. ✓ The cooler starts cooling the interior. ➤ To switch off the cooler: – Disconnect the plug. – Wind the cable around the two holders on the back of the device for storage.

NOTE Disconnect the cooler from the battery when the engine is not running, as otherwise the battery will run down. Connecting the cooler to 230 V (compressor mode) ➤ Connect the 230-V connection cable (fig. 1 3, page 3) to the 230-V AC mains supply. ➤ Open the lid of the thermostat (fig. 2 3, page 3) by pressing down on it. _B40.book Seite 11 Mittwoch, 20. April 2011 3:28 15EN Cleaning and maintenance B40 DC/AC

NOTE Press down on the lid again to close it. ➤ Turn the thermostat (fig. 2 3, page 3) clockwise to the required position.

NOTE The further you turn the thermostat towards “MAX”, the lower the refrigerating temperature. ✓ The cooler starts cooling the interior. ➤ To switch off the cooler: – Turn the thermostat (fig. 2 3, page 3) anti-clockwise to “0”. – Disconnect the plug. – Wind the cable around the two holders on the back of the device for storage.

7.3 Connecting to the cigarette lighter

NOTE If you connect the cooler to the cigarette lighter, remember that the ignition must be turned on to supply it with power. 8 Cleaning and maintenance

WARNING! Always disconnect the device from the mains before you clean and service it.

NOTICE! Risk of damage Never clean the cooler under running water or in dish water. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or hard objects during cleaning as these can damage the cooler. ➤ Occasionally clean the device interior and exterior with a damp cloth. _B40.book Seite 12 Mittwoch, 20. April 2011 3:28 15EN B40 DC/AC Troubleshooting

9 Troubleshooting 10 Disposal ➤ Place the packaging material in the appropriate recycling waste bins wherever possible.

If you wish to finally dispose of the product, ask your local recycling centre or specialist dealer for details about how to do this in accordance with the applicable disposal regulations. Problem Possible cause Suggested remedyYour device is not work-ing (plug is inserted). There is no voltage flow-ing from the DC socket (cigarette lighter) in your vehicle. The ignition must be switched on in most vehicles to supply current to the cigarette lighter. No voltage present in the AC voltage socket.Try using another plug socket. The inner fan or the cooling element or the compressor is defective. This can only be repaired by an authorised repair centre. When operating from the DC socket (cigarette lighter):The ignition is on and the cooler is not working. The fuse of the DC plug is dirty. This results in a poor electrical contact. If the plug of your cooler becomes very warm in the DC socket fitting, either the fitting must be cleaned or the plug has not been assembled correctly. The fuse of the DC plug has blown.Replace the fuse of the DC plug with one of the same rating (fig. 3 1, page 4).The vehicle fuse has blown.Replace the vehicle's DC socket fuse (usually 15 A). Please refer to the operating manual of your vehicle. _B40.book Seite 13 Mittwoch, 20. April 2011 3:28 15EN Technical data B40 DC/AC
