Danger

  • Never immerse the base in water or any other liquid, nor rinse it under the tap.

Warning

  • Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the appliance.

  • This appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or a separate remote control system.

  • Never use a spoon, a spatula or similar to remove ingredients out of the salad maker during operation. In terms you have to remove something out of the feeding tube, always switch off the appliance and unplug it before you do so.
  • Do not grab into the feeding tube or spout while the appliance is plugged in.
  • Never let the appliance run unattended.
  • Be very careful when you handle the discs. Be especially careful when you remove them from the bowl, when you empty the bowl and when you clean it. Their cutting edges are very sharp.
    Always fully unwind the mains cord before you plug in the appliance.
  • Never operate the appliance without lid.

Caution

  • This appliance is intended for normal household use only. It is not intended for use in environments such as staff kitchens of shops, offices, farms or other work environments. Nor is it intended to be used by clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and other residential environments.
  • If the appliance is used improperly or for professional or semi-professional purposes or if it is not used according to the instructions in the user manual, the guarantee becomes invalid and Philips refuses any liability for damage caused.
  • If the appliance is damaged, always have it replaced with one of the original type, otherwise your guarantee is no longer valid.
  • Never use any accessories or parts from other manufacturers or that Philips does not specifically recommend. If you use such accessories or parts, your guarantee becomes invalid.

    Always switch off the appliance and disconnect it from the mains before you assemble, disassemble, clean and store it.

    Wait until moving parts stop running before you remove the lid of the appliance.

Electromagnetic fields (EMF)

This Philips appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic fields (EMF).

Before first use

1 Remove all packaging material from the appliance.
2 Thoroughly clean the parts that come into contact with food before you use the appliance for the first time (see chapter 'Cleaning').

Preparing for use

1 Let hot ingredients cool down before you process them (max. temperature 80^ / 175^ ).
Cut the ingredients into pieces that fit into the feeding tube. Make sure that the pieces are not too big to prevent them from getting stuck in the tube.
3 Put the base on a flat and stable surface.
4 Put the bowl with spout on the base (1) and turn it clockwise (2) to fix it ('click'). (Fig. 2)
5 Place the tool holder in the bowl with spout (Fig. 3).
6 Place the disc you want to use on the tool holder (Fig. 4).

The cutting edges are very sharp. Do not touch them.

7 Put the lid with feeding tube on the bowl with spout (1). Turn the lid clockwise (2) to fix it ('click') (Fig. 5).
8 Put the mains plug in the wall socket (Fig. 6).

Using the appliance

The shredding and slicing discs are intended for shredding or slicing vegetables like cucumber, carrots, potatoes, leeks and onions and certain kinds of cheese. The julienne disc is intended for cutting vegetables into thin sticks. HR1388 only: The French fries disc is intended for cutting potatoes into fries.

Never process hard ingredients like ice cubes with the appliance.

The cutting edges are very sharp. Do not touch them.

1 Turn the control knob to 1. (Fig. 7)
2 Put the ingredients in the feeding tube (Fig. 8).

  • Pre-cut large ingredients into pieces that fit in the feeding tube.
  • Fill the feeding tube evenly for the best results.
  • To shred cheese, e.g. Parmesan, Gouda or Emmentaler, the cheese should be at refrigerator temperature.
    3 Put the pusher onto the ingredients in the feeding tube and push down (Fig. 9).

Discs and their use: (Fig. 10)

Cleaning and maintenance

Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as petrol or acetone to clean the appliance.

Note: All parts except the base can be cleaned in the dishwasher

Switch off and unplug the appliance (Fig. 11).
2 Turn the lid with feeding tube anticlockwise (1) and remove it from the bowl with spout (2) (Fig. 12).
3 Lift the disc and the tool holder out of the bowl with spout. (Fig. 13)
4 Turn the bowl with spout anticlockwise (1) and remove it from the base (2). (Fig. 14)
5 Clean the bowl with spout, the lid with feeding tube, the pusher, the tool holder and the discs with warm water and some washing-up liquid or in the dishwasher (Fig. 15).

Clean the discs very carefully. The cutting edges are very sharp.

6 Wipe the base with a moist cloth (Fig. 16).

Danger: Never immerse the base in water, nor rinse it under the tap. Do not clean it in the dishwasher either.

Caution: If water or other liquids ends up between the base and the bowl with spout, dry the base properly before you continue using the appliance again.

Wipe all parts of the appliance dry with a tea towel.

Storage

1 Switch off and unplug the appliance.
2 Let the appliance cool down.
3 Put the bowl with spout on the base (1) and turn it clockwise (2) to fix it ('click') (Fig. 2).
4 Put the tool holder into the bowl with spout (1), put the lid with feeding tube on the bowl (2) and turn it clockwise (3) to fix it ('click') (Fig. 17).
5 Put the pusher in the feeding tube (Fig. 18).
6 Wind up and fix the cord on the bottom side of the appliance.
Store the appliance in a safe and dry place, preferably on the working top in your kitchen.

Philips guarantees its products for two years after the date of purchase. Defects due to faulty materials and workmanship will be repaired or replaced at Philips expense provided that convincing proof of purchase in the qualifying period is provided.

Replacement products and repaired parts are guaranteed for the remaining time of the guarantee or a period of six months, whichever is longer. The guarantee does not apply to any defect that results from an accident, misuse, improper maintenance or that is due to normal wear and tear.

The terms of the guarantee do not exclude, restrict or modify your statutory rights.

Environment

  • Do not throw away the appliance with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in at an official collection point for recycling. By doing this, you help to preserve the environment (Fig. 19).
