1. Operating instructions

The installation and use of electrical appliances must be carried out with due caution in order to avoid the risk of fire, electric shock or injury. The equipment must only be used as described in these instructions. Any use outside of the manufacturer recommendations could lead to damage, fire, shock or injury.

AEG SK 204 T - Operating instructions - 1

AEG SK 204 T - Operating instructions - 2

Before using the appliance the instructions should be read in their entirety and all appropriate handling of the equipment must be observed.

These instructions should be kept safely and passed on to any future owner. In the event of any repair work, hand them to the qualified installer for his attention.

1.1 Unit description

The SK 204 (T) is suitable for heating rooms that are used infrequently, or to supplement an existing heating system. These units can be used as mobile free-standing units with the feet fitted, or alternatively as wall hanging units.

The SK 204 (T) is supplied complete with a connecting cable.

Only remove the packaging of the unit and accessories at the place of installation, taking note of the additional package.

When unpacking, take care to ensure that no accessories remain behind in the packaging material.

Range of use

The use of the heater in bathrooms or similar damp environments is not permitted. The heater should not be used outdoors.

The heat requirement of the room should be matched to the heat output of the unit. In very small rooms there is a risk of overheating, damage and fire.

As a free standing appliance it can easily be used wherever heat is required (when used as a mobile free standing unit both feet must be fitted before switching on). The connection cable should not be covered with a carpet or mat, and should lie outside any 'traffic area' where it could be caught and the heater overturned.

To prevent a tensed connecting cable (danger of stumble) do not position the appliance too distant from the shockproof socket.

The use of an extension lead should be avoided. If an extension lead is used it should be of sufficient cable size for the full rating power of the heater. It should have a moulded plug and socket and sufficient preventative measures should be taken when using it.

The equipment should always stand on a solid floor, on soft ground the appliance can tilt or the air grilles could be blocked.

When transporting the appliance it should be held only by the recessed grips provided for this purpose (5), under no circumstances should it be carried by the mains electrical cable.

Function

To heat the air, ambient air entering the unit through the openings in the base of the unit is heated, this then flows out by means of natural convection, via the air outlet grille (3) at the top.

In the case of the SK 204 (T), this process can be assisted by using the integral fan to push heat out through the separate outlet grille (4).

1.2 Operation

The operating controls are located within the right hand side section of the unit.

Using the thermostat knob (1), the desired room temperature can be selected between approximately 5^ and 35^ .

The thermostat within the unit then keeps the ambient air constantly at this set value, by cycling the heating on and off for short periods.

Using the switches (2), several different heat output levels can be selected (see following table). This gives increased economy by adapting to the prevailing heat requirement.

Frost protection \*

If the unit is used as a frost protection safeguard, the thermostat knob should be turned anticlockwise to the symbol and one or two selector switches for heat output must be in the 'on' position. The thermostat automatically switches on the heating if the room temperature falls to approximately 7^ .

In the case of the SK 204 T, the fan can be switched on using the switch II.

To take the unit out of operation, all switches must be switched to the OFF position and the power supply plug must be pulled out of the wall socket / be completely disconnected (plugs must not be pulled with the cable out of the socket socket! use the plug itself).

The appliance must not be operated:

  • In areas which are subject to the risk of fire or explosion due to chemicals, dust, gases or vapours;
  • In the immediate vicinity of pipes or containers which carry or contain combustible or potentially explosive substances;
  • At less as the minimum clearance distances advised.

Under no circumstances must the unit be operated if work such as the laying, sanding, sealing, cleaning with petrol, and maintenance (spraying, waxing) of floors and the like is being carried out in the room where the unit is installed.

During operation the surface of the heater and the outcoming air will be hot (more than 80^ ). Danger of burning!

Keep children away from heater!

No objects of any kind must be placed on the unit, leaned against it, or put between the heating unit and the wall (for example not to dry the washing).

In addition, no combustible, flammable, or heat insulating objects or materials such as washing, blankets, magazines, containers holding floor wax or petrol, spray cans and the like, should be placed in the immediate vicinity of the unit. Danger of fire!

AEG SK 204 T - Safety instructions - 2

In order to avoid overheating, the heater must not be covered.

For objects of all kinds, such as for example furniture, drapes, curtains and textiles or other flammable or non-flammable materials, the following minimum distances from the unit, particularly from the air outlet grille, must be observed:

In front of the air outlet grille 500 mm

Above the air outlet grille at a Overhang < 200mm 500 mm

Side of unit 150 mm

Rear of unit 20 mm

The hot air must be able to exit freely!

No articles must fall, hang, lay or stick into any opening of the appliance (e.g. necklaces a.s.o.). This can lead to deadly current draws and/or fires.

Do not use the appliance as a stool!

No changes at the equipment must be made.

Never leave the alliance when in use unsupervised. Remote switches or automatic engaged equipment or upstream components are not allowed with this appliance. (e.g. ambient temperature automatic controller) is not permitted.

Special caution is required, if the appliance is used in the presence of children, invalid persons or animals. Danger of injury!

If a part of the appliance is damaged or has fallen down or it was already defect/malfunctioning, it may no be taken in to operation.

1.4 Care and maintenance

Before cleaning or maintenance the power supply plugs of the appliance must pulled out of the socket and it must cool down first!

If slight brownish discolouration should appear on the unit housing, this should be rubbed off as soon as possible with a damp cloth.

The unit should be cleaned in the cold condition, using customary cleaning agents.

Abrasive or corrosive cleaning agents should be avoided.

Humidity may not penetrate into the equipment.

Do not spray any cleaning sprays into the air slots.

The appliace must be well dried before it is taken in operation!

The appliance should be kept free of dust and vibrations and must be kept well protected.

What to do if . . .?

  • the unit does not get hot?

Check that . . .

... the ON/OFF switch is turned on.
... in your fuse box, the corresponding fuse is intact or whether the breaker has tripped.

Eliminate cause!

If the heater still does not warm up, call an engineer!

the unit switches itself off?

Check whether it is covered, so it could have overheated (e.g. covered air outlet or inlet opening). Eliminate cause!

If it does not warm up again after a few minutes' cooling down period, call an engineer!

  • customer service is called?

Read the model (Modell) and E- and F-number from the rating plate (8) on the unit and tell customer service!
