General Safety Instructions Read the operating instructions carefully before putting the appliance into operation and keep the instructions including the warranty, the receipt and, if possible, the box with the internal packing. If you give this device to other people, please also pass on the operating instructions.
- To avoid the risk of fi re or an electric shock, you should not expose the device to rain or moisture. Consequently, do not use the device in the immediate vicinity of water - for examp- le near a bath tub, a swimming pool or in a damp cellar.

- If the device is not used for a longer period, remove the plug connector from the plug socket or take out the batteries. These symbols may be found on the machine and are intended to indicate the following: The lightning symbol should advise the user of parts in the inside of the device which carry dangerously high voltage levels. The symbol with an exclamation mark should advise the user of important operation or maintenance instructions in the accompanying documentation. Devices bearing this symbol work with a „class 1 laser“ for tracing the CD. The built-in safety switches should prevent the user being exposed to dange- rous laser light, which is invisible to the human eye, when the CD compartment is opened. - Read the operating instructions thoroughly before the start-up!
- Select an appropriate location for the device, e.g. a dry, fl at, non-slip surface on which the device can be easily operated.
- Make sure that the device is adequately ventilated!
- Connect the loudspeakers to the back of the music centre to the sockets market „Speaker R and L“ (28).
- Insert the plug into a properly installed 230 V, 50 Hz power socket. The clock 00:00 appears, the display is dark. Please ensure that the mains voltage corresponds to the informati- on on the type plate.
- Unwind the FM dipole aerial (30) if necessary.
- The stored time and stations are lost as soon as the power supply is interrupted. Switching on (ON) Turn the device on with the ON/OFF switch (31) on the back of the device. Switching off (OFF) In order to turn the device completely off, turn the ON/OFF switch on the back of the device to „OFF“. Setting the Time

- Open the lid of the battery compartment on the back of the remote control.
- Insert 2 batteries of type LR3 „AAA“ 1,5 V. Ensure that the polarity is correct (see the fl oor of the battery compartment)!
- If the remote control is not used for a prolonged period, remove the batteries in order to prevent battery acid leaking.
- Different battery types or new and used batteries must not be used together. CAUTION: Batteries are not to be disposed of together with domestic wastes. Dispose of the used batteries at the relevant collection bin or at your dealer’s.
Do not expose the batteries to high temperatures or direct sunlight. Never throw batteries into the fi re. There is a danger of explosion! CD deck transport protection Please open the CD compartment (11) by pressing the
OPEN/CLOSE (open) button (12). Remove the transport protec- tion from the CD player if present before use. General Operation NOTE: Some keys are to be found both on the device itself and on the remote control. Keys with the same designation have the same function. ON/STANDBY (4/12) Switch the device to the standby mode with the ON/STANDBY button (4/12) (the time display appears, the display is dark). The display lights up in blue and “HELLO” appears briefl y. The display changes to the current function, e.g. TUNER. Volume (5/10) This is used to set the individual volume. The letters „VOL“ and a fi gure appear in the display (13). Headphone Socket (1) Please use headphones with a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug; these should be inserted into the headphone socket. The loudspea- kers are then switched off. Infrared remote control For operating the music centre from a distance of up to 5 metres without a lead. If the range of the remote control is reduced, the batteries have to be replaced. During operation ensure that there is nothing blocking the direct line between the remote control and the sensor (3) on the machine. USB Connexion (7) This device has been developed in accordance with the latest technical developments in the USB fi eld. Unfortunately the large number of different types of USB storage media on offer today makes it impossible to guarantee full compatibility with all USB storage media. For this reason there may be problems in rare cases with playing back from USB storage media. This is not a malfunction of the device.

NOTE: Insert the medium in the way shown in Fig. 5. Otherwise the medium might be damaged. The USB storage medi- um is switched off. The following appear in the display: “USB”, “MP3” or “WMA”, the track number, track name, ar- tist (if stored on the storage medium), the elapsed playing time and the number of the folder (e.g. F01).

- With the SD/MMC card inserted it is not possible to switch over to the USB connection.
- If you have problems with operation using the USB connexion, please use an appropriate adapter cable and proceed as described under USB. CAUTION: Before you remove the USB storage medium, turn the device to a different mode, e.g. TUNER, by the FUNCTION button (6/8). Illustration 5 SD/MMC Card Slot (9)
1. If you would like to play back data on an SD/MMC card
please insert it into the opening provided. NOTE: Insert the medium as shown in Fig. 5. Press the card in until it locks in place. Otherwise the medium might be damaged.
2. Now press the FUNCTION button (6/8) to select the SD/
MMC mode (The display changes automatically to CARD mode). The following appear in the display: “CARD”, “MP3” or “WMA”, the track number, track name, artist (if stored on the storage medium), the elapsed playing time and the number of the folder (e.g. F01).
4. Press the card in to remove it.

I (SKIP DOWN/UP) buttons (8/3/4). If the button is kept pressed down a fast search starts. Once the frequency has been found, press the button (8/3/4) again.
4. The FM.ST control lamp ( ) (in the display) only lights
up if the selected station is being received in stereo quality. If reception is too weak and there is noise on the station being received, this lamp will fl icker. Try to improve reception by turning and bending or twisting and altering the length of the antenna (30). In the case of FM stations you can use the MONO/ST button (17 on the remote control) to switch between MONO and STEREO reception. Where reception is bad we recommend switching to MONO.
5. An aerial is integrated into the device for the reception of
AM stations. The machine can be aligned to the station by turning it. In this frequency band programs are transmitted in „mono“ only.
6. If you have found the desired station, press the MEM(ORY)/
PROG(RAM) button (10/6). The word MEM lights up and the station memory number fl ashes.
7. In order to select the program location, press the REPEAT/
PRE-UP / RAN(DOM)/PRE-DN buttons (16/18/5/7). In order to select the frequency, press the I
button (10/6). Please note that the programme storage loca- tion must be entered within 10 seconds as the procedure is then cancelled. To select a stored station press the REPEAT/PRE-UP or RAN(DOM)/PRE-DN button. Cassette Operation Playing Cassettes
1. Press the FUNCTION button (6/8) repeatedly until the word
stop/eject button (23) to open the cassette compartment (21).
3. Push a recorded audio cassette, with the tape downwards
and the listening side facing forwards, into the compartment (full reel to the left). Then close the cassette compartment (21) again.

6. Wind the tape forwards or backwards if necessary in the
direction of the arrow keys

9. In order to interrupt playback briefl y, press the II pause
button (22). Pressing again continues playback. Recording Cassettes
1. Insert an audiocassette with the side on which you wish
to record facing forwards (full reel on the left). Ensure that the cassette is not copy-protected (the copy protection tab on the top narrow side of the cassette must not have been removed).
2. Select the recording source with the FUNCTION button (6/8)
and then start this source. The sound source which you are listening to is the one from which the recording is made. The recording level is controlled automatically. Any changes to the sound and volume do not affect the recording. NOTE: Do not press the MUTE button (9) during recording.

appears in the display.
2. In order to open the CD compartment (11), press the
OPEN/CLOSE (open) button (12).
3. Insert an audio CD with the printed side facing upwards on
to the central cone so that the CD clicks into place and then close the lid of the CD compartment.
The word “READING” fl ashes briefl y in the display. This is followed by “CD”, the number of tracks and the total playing time. Press the
II ENTER/PLAY/PAUSE button (14/1) to play back the CD. The CD is played from the fi rst track onwards. The track currently being played and the time that has elapsed are shown in the display. CDs in MP3 Format: In the display the symbols “MP3” appear together with the number of folders e.g. 04 and the total number of tracks. Press the
II ENTER/PLAY/PAUSE key (14/1) to play the CD. The CD is played back from the fi rst track onwards and from the fi rst folder. The song currently being played and the time that has elapsed are shown in the display. With the FOLDER UP/BAND button (15/13) you can select the individual folders.
STOP key (17) (2 on the re- mote control), open the CD deck with the

II ENTER/PLAY/PAUSE (14/1) You can briefl y interrupt and resume playback using this button. The playing time that has elapsed fl ashes in the display. Pres- sing again continues playback.
I /SKIP UP (8/4) you can jump to the next or previous track etc. If the button is kept pressed down, the machine starts to search through the tracks. The I
SKIP/TUNING/SKIP DOWN button (8/3) can be used as follows: Press once = This starts the current track again from the beginning. Press twice = This jumps back to the previous track. Press three times = This plays the song before etc. If the button is kept pressed down, the machine starts to search through the tracks. In CD, USB and SD/MMC mode: Keep I
I (SKIP DOWN/UP) (8/3/4) pressed down during playback to increase or reduce the elapsed playing time. If the buttons are kept pressed down in stop mode, a fast search begins to the desired title or folder. Press the
ENTER/PLAY/PAUSE button to begin playing back the track. NOTE: When the music search is activated for MP3, USB or SD/ MMC, the sound is muted. In radio mode: To tune the desired radio station. Number buttons (11) Enter the number of the desired track with the help of the number buttons on the remote control. After a short time this track begins to play back.
STOP (17/2) The CD stops. MUTE (9 on the remote control) Used for switching off the sound immediately. The word „MUTE“ fl ashes in the display (13). To cancel this function, press the MUTE key again. MONO/ST (17 on the remote control) To change between STEREO and MONO. INTRO (18 on the remote control) Use the FUNCTION button (6/8) to change to CD or USB mode. Press the INTRO button (INTRO appears in the display). Each track on the CD is played for 10 seconds. Press this button again to stop searching. The currently selected track is played. MENU/SELECT button (19/19) There are various modes available, which are displayed after each press of the button: CLOCK: see section „Setting the Time“. TIMER: see section „Alarm Function“. EQ: see item „EQ“. BASS: see item „BASS“. ID3: see item „ID3“. EQ (16 on the remote control) (Preset equalizer function). Various sound modes are available (CLASSIC, POP, FLAT, ROCK, JAZZ). ((EQ)) appears in the display except in the case of FLAT. Press the button (19/19) until EQ appears. Confi rm your entry with the
II ENTER/PLAY/PAUSE button (14/1). Press the MENU/SELECT button and select a mode. Confi rm with the button (14/1). EQ appears in the display. BASS (20 on the remote control) To increase or decrease the bass output. BASS ON = on (BASS in the display), BASS OFF = off. Press the button (19/19) until BASS appears. Confi rm your entry with the
II ENTER/PLAY/PAUSE button (14/1), BASS ON appears in the display. If the MENU/SELECT button is pressed, BASS OFF appears; confi rm your selection with the button (14/1). ID3 If it has been burned on the MP3 CD, the ID3-Tag information is shown in the display as a moving image. You can switch the ID3 tag information on and off. Follow the steps as described under “BASS”. REPEAT/PRE-UP (16/5) Press once: (the emits a fi xed light). Press two and three times: You can defi ne a freely selected passage to be repeated automatically. To do so, proceed as follows:
- Mark the beginning of the passage to be repeated. In order to do this, press the button twice during playback. You will now see the image A in the display.
- Mark the end of the passage to be repeated by pressing the button a third time. Image A B appears in the display. The previously marked section is now repeated. Press four times: (the ALL emits a fi xed light). The whole CD is played continuously. Press fi ve times: all functions are cancelled. The normal play mode is resumed. Only for CDs in MP3 format The steps for pressing 1 to 4 times are repeated; see paragraph above. Press fi ve times: the selected folder of the MP3 CD is repea- ted continuously ( FOLDER appears in the display). With the FOLDER UP/BAND button (15/13) you can select the individual folders. Press six times: the function is deactivated and the CD is played in the normal mode. RAN(DOM)/PRE-DN (18/7) Press once: the display (13) contains the word RAN and the track number that is to be played fi rst. All tracks are played back in random order. Press twice: the function is deactivated and the CD is played in the normal mode. FOLDER UP/BAND button (15/13) For a CD in MP3 format: Press this button during playback to change to a folder further down. The display, e.g. F01, fl ashes briefl y. Then the MP3 CD begins to play back automatically. In radio mode: For selecting the FM (frequency modulation) or MW (medium wave) bands. Alarm Function TIMER (15 on the remote control) You can set the device so that it switches on and off again at a certain time. Setting the Timer

- Insert a CD beforehand and select CD mode. Set the volume beforehand. The device starts to play back the CD automatically.
- Tune into the station and set the volume beforehand.
- Push the card into the slot beforehand. Adjust the volume. Delayed Shut-Off SLEEP (14 on the remote control) With the device switched on this sets the period in 10-minute steps from 90 to 10 minutes after which the device switches to standby. Press the button repeatedly until the required duration is shown in the display. With this function activated the word SLEEP appears in the display. The device switches off auto- matically after the set time. In order to call up the remaining time press the SLEEP button. This time can also be subsequently shortened or switched off again (00 Min). Automatic Alarm Interval SNOOZE (21 on the remote control) The automatic alarm function (timer) can be switched off with the SNOOZE button for approx. 10 minutes. Programmed Play This can be used to program any desired sequence of tracks.

I (SKIP DOWN/UP) key and press the MEM(ORY)/ PROG(RAM) key again. Repeat the procedure until all the desired tracks are selected. In MP3 format fi rst select the folder. Press the MEM(ORY)/PROG(RAM) button and then select the desired track.

The programmed order remains in the memory until you change to a different mode, remove the CD from the CD compartment, switch the device off or to standby mode. It is also possible to combine the programmed tracks with the REPEAT function. After you have programmed and started the device, please press the REPEAT/PRE-UP button (16/5) up to three times and then you can use the functions as described under „REPEAT“. Playing back Music in MP3 Format With this device it is possible to play back pieces of music in MP3 format. The device also supports all standard CD types: CD, CD-RW, CD-R. This machine of is able to play MP3 CDs. Up to 200 tracks can be compressed and stored on these CDs. Your machine detects an MP3 CD automatically (the total number of tracks and MP3s appears in the display). If you would like to play one of these CDs, proceed as described under „Playing CDs/MP3“. Tracks can be programmed as described under „Playing Back Programmed Tracks“. Please note: There are a number of different recording and compression methods, as well as quality differences between CDs and self- recorded CDs. Furthermore, the music industry does not adhere to fi xed standards (copy protection). For these reasons it is possible that in rare cases there are problems with the playback of CDs and MP3 CDs. This is not a malfunction of the device. Cleaning and Maintenance
- Always remove the mains plug before cleaning the machine.
