Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of a BISTRO electric hand mixer from BODUM
. Read these instructions carefully before using the hand mixer. IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS – When using electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following. – Read all the instructions carefully before using the appli- ance for the first time. Failure to observe the instructions and safety precautions may cause a hazard. – After unpacking, check the appliance for damage. Do not use it if you are not sure; instead, contact your retailer. – Keep the packaging material (cardboard, plastic bags, etc.) out of the reach of children (danger of asphyxiation or injury). – This hand mixer is intended for household use only. Do not use it outdoors. – Do not place the appliance on or next to hot gas or elec- tric burners or in a heated oven. – The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage or injury arising from inappropriate or improper use. Use the appliance only for the purpose for which it was designed. – Do not let children play with the appliance. – Close supervision is necessary if the appliance is used by children or persons unfamiliar with it. – This appliance is not suitable for use by young children or infirm persons unless closely supervised by a responsible person who can ensure its safe use. – Do not touch the appliance with damp or wet hands. Do not touch the cord or plug with wet hands. – Do not use any accessory attachment not recommended by the appliance manufacturer. This may cause fire, electric shock or injury. – To protect against risk of electrical shock, never immerse the motor unit in water. Remember that your hand mixer is an electrical appliance. – Clean the appliance using a damp cloth only. – Set the speed control to «0» and unplug the cord from the wall outlet to isolate the appliance. – When unplugging the cord from the wall outlet, grasp the plug, not the cord. – Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter or touch hot surfaces, including the stove. – Disconnect the hand mixer from the mains whenever it is not being used, before attaching or removing accessories or when cleaning it.InstructIon for use
– Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any way. Instead, take it to the nearest authorised service centre for examination, repair or adjustment. – Never attempt to replace the cord, as special tools are required. Repairs to or replacements of the cord should be left to a service centre authorised by the manufacturer to ensure the safety of the appliance. – Never immerse the cord, motor unit or plug in water or other liquid, as this could cause fire, electric shock or injury. – Caution: to avoid the risk of overriding the safety shut- down system, the appliance must not be operated by means of an external switch device such as a time switch, nor should it be connected to an electrical circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the electricity supply company. – The appliance must remain disconnected from the mains while it is being cleaned. – Do not touch any rotating components or accessories. – Avoid contacting moving parts. Keep clothing, jewellery, hair, fingers and utensils away from rotating components or accessories to avoid serious injury to persons and dam- age to the appliance. – To avoid splashing, use a tall container or reduce the quantity when blending liquids, especially if they are hot. – Check that the speed control is set to «0» and that the appliance is isolated from the mains before cleaning or putting it away. – Do not let the appliance run unsupervised. Remove beaters before washing.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
InstALLAtIon – Always place the appliance on a stable, horizontal sur- face. This surface should neither be hot nor near a heat source. The surface must be dry. Keep the appliance and cord out of the reach of children. – Check that the voltage indicated on the rating label of the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage. Connect the appliance only to a properly earthed wall outlet with an output rating of at least 6A. (Use a residual current device (RCD) – please contact a qualified electrician for advice.) The wall outlet must be easily accessible while the appliance is in use in case of emergency. The manu- facturer accepts no liability for accidents caused by poor or inexistent grounding of the appliance. – If the plug provided with the appliance is incompatible with the wall outlet, have it changed by a qualified electrician.4 BIstro

If the appliance is earthed, the extension cable must be a three–core earthed cable. The lengthened cable must not be allowed to hang over the edge of the table or counter, children must not be able to pull on it, and it must not be allowed to present a trip hazard. Before usInG tHe HAnD MIXer Clean the hand mixer before using it for the first time. See CARE AND MAINTENANCE section AccessorIes Your hand mixer comes with three accessories. – STIRRING WANDS (3) – The stirring wands smooth the mixture and prevent it from forming lumps. They are also suitable for preparing blancmanges, flans, etc. and mayonnaise. – This attachment may draw significantly less power or current. – DOUGH HOOKS (4a, 4b) – The dough hooks are particularly suitable for mixing vari- ous types of dough such as bread and yeast dough. – The maximum rating is based on this attachment. – WHISK (5) – The whisk lends itself to incorporating air into a mixture, as in the whipping of egg whites, cream, meringues and mousses. – This attachment may draw significantly less power or current. For US Customers only: This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other).InstructIon for use
To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way. sPeeD settInGs The following guide will help you select the appropriate mixing speed. NOTE: the consistency of the mixture is liable to change as ingredients are added; it may be necessary to increase or decrease the speed accordingly. STEP 0 The appliance is switched off. Use this setting and discon- nect the appliance from the mains when cleaning it or put- ting it away. STEP 1 For mixing and kneading dough. STEP 2 For sauces and blancmange, flans, etc. STEP 3 For a variety of baking mixtures. STEP 4 For beating butter and sugar, biscuit doughs, cake mixes and icing mixtures. STEP 5 For incorporating air into mixture to make it light and fluffy, such as mashed potatoes or eggs. HoW to use Your HAnD MIXer
INSERTING THE ACCESSORIES
– Before inserting the accessories, check that the speed control (1) is set to position «0» and that the appliance is disconnected from the mains. – Insert the selected accessory into the coupling assembly (8) while rotating it slightly until it engages. – When inserting the dough hooks (4a, 4b), check that they are correctly positioned in the coupling assembly (8): the left dough hook (4a) will only fit in the left–hand aper- ture (which has a visible step in it). The right dough hook (4b) will only fit in the right–hand aperture (which has no step in it). – The two stirring wands (3) and the whisk (5) fit either aperture of the coupling assembly (8).
– Using one hand to hold the mixer by its handle (11), use the other hand to pull the cord and mains plug from the cord compartment (6). Take care not to damage the cord as you do so.
CONNECTING TO THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY
– Accessories must always be fitted to the hand mixer before it is connected to the mains.6 BIstro – Before connecting the hand mixer to the mains, check that the speed control (1) is set to position «0».
IMPORTANT: to prevent overheating of the motor, switch off the mixer after four minutes continuous operation and wait two minutes before continuing. – Place the ingredients in a bowl. Ensure that the accesso- ries do not touch the base or sides of bowls made of glass or porcelain. – Immerse the accessories in the mixture and select the appropriate speed setting (1). See the SPEED SETTINGS section. – To avoid splashing, keep the accessories immersed in the mixture while mixing. – When you have finished mixing, set the speed control (1) to «0» and disconnect the mixer from the mains. – When you have finished using the mixer, place it on the rest (9) with its four non–slip silicon feet.
REMOVING THE ACCESSORIES
– Before removing the accessories, set the speed control (1) to «0» and disconnect the mixer from the mains. – Press the accessory release button (2) to release the acces- sories. Hold the accessories by the shaft when doing so. – Note: to safeguard your safety, the accessories can be released only if the speed control (1) is set to «0».
– The cord should be stowed back in the cord compartment (6) when you have finished using the mixer. – Swing out the crank (7). – Using one hand to hold the mixer by its handle (11), use the other hand to turn the crank (7) until the cord is stowed back in the cord compartment (6).
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
– Disconnect the hand mixer from the mains before cleaning it. – Do not use abrasive cleaners.
CLEANING THE ACCESSORIES
– Remove surplus mixture from the accessories using a rubber or plastic spatula. – The accessories can be washed by hand; they are also dish- washer proof. – Any other servicing should be performed by an autho– rized servicing representative.
– Use a damp cloth only to clean the exterior surfaces of the mixer. – Never immerse the motor unit, mains plug or cord in water: remember that this is an electrical appliance.InstructIon for use
