Introduction

The deep fryer is equipped with an adjustable thermostat, so that the temperature can be adapted to the food being fried.

Intended Use

This device is used for deep-frying food.

It is intended exclusively for this purpose and may only be used as such. It may only be used in the manner described in these instructions for use. The device must not be used for commercial purposes.

Any other use of this device is considered to be contrary to the intended use and may result in damage to materials or even personal injury.

The firm ETV Elektro-Technische Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH does not accept any liability for damage caused as a result of the use of this device contrary to its intended use.

Putting into use

Before using for the first time

  1. Remove the packaging. Open the deep fryer by pressing the button (11). The frying basket is in the deep fryer.
  2. It is highly recommended to clean the lid, casing, container and frying basket as described in CLEANING.
  3. Unwind the mains lead completely.

Electrical connection

  • Make sure that the device voltage (see name plate) and the line voltage match.
  • The mains plug should only be inserted into a correctly installed 230V~50Hz socket with earthing contact.

Connected Wattage

The total power consumption of this device can be up to 2000 W. With this connected load a separate supply line protected by a 16 A household circuit breaker is recommended.

AEG FR 5553 - Connected Wattage - 1

CAUTION: OVERLOAD:

  • If you use extension leads, these should have a cable cross-section of at least 1.5mm².
  • Do not use any multiple sockets, as this device is too powerful.

Useful hints for use

  1. Always remove the food remaining in the oil (e.g. pieces of French fries). After the device has been used several times you should change the oil.

Use high quality frying oil or frying grease.

  1. Fats and oils must be heatable to high temperatures. Do not use margarine, olive oil or butter: they are not fit for frying, because they start to smoke already at low temperatures.

We recommend the use of liquid frying oil.

AEG FR 5553 - Useful hints for use - 1

WARNING:

Please note this important information if you intend to use fat!

If you use fat, please divide it up into small pieces. Turn the thermostat to a low temperature and add the pieces slowly. Once the fat has melted and the correct oil level is reached you can set the desired temperature on the thermostat.

Under no circumstances should you place the fat in the deep frying basket!

  1. In order to reduce the acrylamide content of food containing starch (potatoes, cereals) the temperature during deep-fat frying should not exceed 170°C (or possibly 175°C). Furthermore, the frying time should be kept as short as possible and the food only fried until it turns golden yellow.
  2. Choose the right frying temperature and check the conditions of the food to be fried. A rule of thumb is that pre-fried foods require a higher temperature than raw foods.
  3. Do not carry or move the deep fryer if the oil or grease is still hot.
  4. When frying dough-like foods scrape off the excess dough and put the pieces carefully into the oil.
  5. The deep frying basket must not be more than two-thirds full. Do not overfill the basket.
  6. Rub dry humid foods with a cloth before frying.

AEG FR 5553 - WARNING: - 1

CAUTION:

In the case of foodstuffs which are too moist (e.g. frozen chips etc.) large amounts of foam may form, which under certain circumstances may cause the oil to overflow.

  1. After use, unplug the deep fryer.
  2. If you should switch on your deep fat fryer by accident when there is no oil or fat in it, the overheating protection device will switch on automatically. The device is then no longer operable. Remove the plug from the socket.

Use

  1. Make sure that the appliance is unplugged and switched off (The control lamps are off).
  2. Open the deep fryer by pressing the button (11).
  3. In order to remove the deep fryer, place your hands in the tub and pull the handle (13) upwards until it locks in place.
  4. Fill oil or fat into the frying fat container. (maximum 3 l). The filling level must be located between the minimum and the maximum level.
  5. Insert the plug in a duly installed 230V / 50Hz protective contact socket.
  6. Set the desired temperature on the temperature regulator (10). With the timer (7) you can control the operating time. Then close the lid during the heating-up phase. The power on switch (8) and the HEATING control lamp (9) light up.

NOTE:

Once the set temperature has been reached, the HEATING control lamp goes off. The power on lamp remains on and shows that the device is working.

  1. Now fill the deep-fry basket. Please ensure that the basket is not filled above the hot fat. Open the lid and insert the basket with the items to be fried carefully into the recess.
  2. Now close the lid. Release the handle (by pushing the button (14) on the handle). The deep-fry basket is now in the hot fat.
  3. Set the timer. The times stated on the front of the deep fat fryer are guidelines. The frying times are to be found on the packaging of the food or in the recipe. For times up to 30 min you should turn the switch in a clockwise direction. If you would like to operate the deep fat fryer for longer, turn the switch in an anticlockwise direction to ON.

NOTE:

  • During the deep-frying process the HEATING control lamp switches on and off several times. This is normal and it indicates that the temperature is controlled by the thermostat and is being maintained.
  • Once the set time (up to 30 min.) has been reached, an acoustic signal is heard. The heating phase is over.
  • After the frying time has expired, you can allow the oil to drain off the deep-fried food. In order to do so, hang the deep frying basket on the edge of the frying fat container (as described under point 3).
  • Open the lid carefully.

WARNING:

As it is possible that hot steam will be released

  1. Now remove the deep-frying basket.

Switching Off

If you would like to stop the frying process, turn the temperature regulator to the minimum setting (0) and switch the timer off if necessary (OFF). Remove the mains plug from the socket. Allow the frying oil a considerable time to cool down. Before continuing to use the full frying pot, please ensure that it is no longer at a dangerous temperature.

Mains Lead Take-up Device

Wind the mains lead up again on the rear of the deep fat fryer.

Cleaning

WARNING:

Always pull out the plug from the mains socket before cleaning and wait until the unit has cooled down.

CAUTION:

  • Do not use any wire brush or other abrasive objects.
  • Do not use any acidic or abrasive detergents.
  • Under no circumstances should the device be immersed in water for cleaning.

Deep frying fat container

  • In order to change the oil, pull out the deep frying fat container and pour the oil out at the side.

  1. Regularly clean your products and oil or fat (e.g., using paper towels). After several uses, the product may become saturated with oil or fat.

Use only high-quality oil and fat for frying products.

  1. Oils must have a high heating temperature. Avoid using margarine, butter, or lard. These products are not suitable for frying in a deep fryer because they create foam at low heating temperatures. We recommend using oil specifically designed for frying.

WARNING!

Please take into account the following recommendations if you want to use oil!

If you want to use oil for a long time, it is better to use small batches. Set the thermostat to a low temperature and add the batches gradually and slowly. After the first batch has become sufficiently crispy, you can set the thermostat to the temperature required for the process.

Never put oil in the basket of products!

3. When frying starchy products (e.g., potatoes, cereals), we recommend not exceeding the working temperature of 170°C (maximum 175°C). It is recommended to shorten the process to a minimum and keep the product in the fryer for a maximum of 30 seconds or until golden. 4. Always use the appropriate working temperature for the products you are frying. The basic rule for frying: products that have already been fried in a fryer require a higher temperature than raw products. 5. When the oil or fat is still hot, it is forbidden to move or shake the fryer to another place. 6. When working with products containing starch, remove the starch residues, and lower the baskets into the oil or fat carefully. 7. The basket can be filled with products to a maximum of 2/3. Do not overfill the basket with products. 8. Wet products should be dried with a cloth before frying them in the fryer.

AEG FR 5553 - Never put oil in the basket of products! - 1

ATTENTION:

If products contain a lot of water (e.g., frozen potatoes, etc.), a lot of foam will be produced, which may cause overflow from the container.

9. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. 10. If you accidentally turn on the fryer when there is no oil or fat in it, the automatic protection against overheating will activate. The appliance will not function. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

Use

  1. Make sure the appliance is plugged into the electrical outlet and turned off. (The indicator lights are off).
  2. Turn on the fryer by pressing the button (11).
  3. To lower the basket with products, take the handle (13), which is in the lowered position, and lift it up to the point where it locks.
  4. Fill the container with fat or oil (maximum 3 l). The oil or fat level should be between the MIN and MAX marks. 5. Plug the appliance into the electrical outlet, so that it is protected by a 230V, 50Hz socket.
  5. Set the temperature regulator (10) to the desired temperature. With the timer (7) you can adjust the duration of the working process. During frying, keep the lid closed. The control light for the electrical outlet (8) and the control light for heating HEATING (9) will turn on.

Note:

When the set temperature is reached, the HEATING indicator light will go out. The control light for the electrical outlet will stay on throughout the entire time and will signal the working process.

  1. Fill the basket with products. Make sure that when filling the basket with products, you do not exceed the maximum oil level. Open the lid and carefully lower the basket with products into the fryer with hot fat or oil.
  2. Close the lid. Release the handle (by pressing the button (14) on the handle). The basket with products will remain in the fryer.
  3. Set the timer for the required time. On the front panel of the fryer, the approximate cooking time is indicated. The cooking time for different products is indicated on the packaging or in the recipe. If the set time is less than 30 minutes, turn the timer knob clockwise. If the set time is longer, turn the timer knob counterclockwise to the desired position.

Note:

During the frying of products, the HEATING indicator light will turn on and off many times. This is normal for the process and indicates that the thermostat is controlling the temperature and maintaining it at the required level. After the set time has elapsed (up to 30 minutes), a sound signal will sound. The heating phase is finished.

Introduction

The temperature is regulated by a thermostat, which allows you to select the temperature according to the characteristics of the product intended for frying.

Intended use

This appliance is intended for frying food in a deep fryer.

It is intended exclusively for this purpose and may only be used in the manner described in this instruction manual. You are not permitted to use the appliance for commercial purposes.

Any other use is considered improper use and may cause material damage or even personal injury.

Never place the appliance in a dishwasher.

  1. To minimize the formation of acrylamide in starchy food products (potatoes, cereals) during frying in the deep fryer, it is recommended not to exceed a temperature of 170°C (max. 175°C). It is also recommended to reduce the frying time to a minimum and to fry until a golden color.
  2. When setting the appropriate temperature, always consider the characteristics of the product. As a guideline, the following rule can be used: products that have undergone preliminary frying in the deep fryer require higher temperatures compared to raw products.
  3. If the oil or fat starts to foam, never turn off or move the deep fryer.
  4. Before lowering dough products into the oil, always remove any loose dough pieces from them. 7. The fryer basket may be filled to a maximum of 2/3 of its capacity. Do not overfill the fryer basket.
  5. Moist products must be dried by patting them with a paper towel.

CAUTION:

Very moist food products (e.g., wet potato slices) cause strong foaming, which in the worst case can lead to oil overflow.

  1. After finishing work with the deep fryer, unplug it from the power outlet.
  2. If the deep fryer is accidentally switched on without oil or fat in it, the overheating protection will automatically activate. After that, the deep fryer will not turn on for some time and will not be ready for operation. Unplug it from the power outlet.

Working with the device

  1. Make sure the device is disconnected from the mains and switched off (control lamps are not lit).
  2. Open the fryer, press the button (11).
  3. To pull out the basket, take the handle (13) in the recess and pull it up until it locks.
  4. Pour oil or fat into the fryer (maximum 3 liters). The oil level should be between the "Min" and "Max" marks. 5. Insert the plug into a socket with a voltage of 230V, 50Hz, equipped with protective contacts and installed in accordance with regulations.
  5. Set the required temperature using the temperature regulator (10). The operating time of the device is set by the timer (7). During heating, the lid must be closed. The mains indicator lamp (8) and the control lamp HEATING (9) light up.

NOTE:

As soon as the set temperature is reached, the control lamp HEATING goes out. The mains indicator lamp continues to light and signals the readiness of the device.

  1. Fill the fryer basket, making sure that the filling does not exceed the level of the hot oil. Open the lid and carefully insert the filled fryer basket into the guide.
  2. Close the lid. Unlock the handle (by pressing the button (14) on the handle). The fryer basket is now in the hot oil. 9. Set the required duration of the frying process using the timer. On the front panel of the fryer, some examples are given for orientation. The frying time for the products will be found on the product packaging or in the recipe. To set the time up to 30 minutes, turn the switch clockwise. If the frying of the products should continue longer, turn the switch counterclockwise to the desired position.

NOTE:

The control lamp HEATING switches on and off repeatedly during the operation of the fryer. This is normal and indicates that the temperature is controlled and maintained by the thermostat. - When the set time (up to 30 minutes) has elapsed, an audible signal sounds. The heating phase is finished.

10. After the frying time has ended, the products should be removed. To do this, it is necessary to hang the basket with the products on the edge of the container with oil (as described in point 3).

11. Carefully open the lid.

WARNING:

The fryer is ready to use!

  1. Remove the frying basket.

End of operation

If you want to finish working with the fryer, turn the temperature regulator to the minimum position (0) and if necessary, unplug the appliance by turning it to the OFF position. Remove the power cord from the outlet. The frying oil requires a long cooling time. Before continuing to work, make sure that the oil temperature has reached a safe level.

Cord storage

Wind the power cord around the back of the fryer.
