IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PRECAUTIONS BEFORE USE:

• Read these instructions, heed all warnings and keep for future reference.
• Do not use this apparatus near water.
• Clean only with a dry cloth.
• Do not block any ventilation openings; a minimum distance of 10mm around the entire apparatus is required for sufficient ventilation.
• No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on or near the apparatus.
• Attention should be drawn to the environmental aspects of battery disposal.
  The apparatus is to be used in moderate climates only.
• Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or other apparatuses (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
• Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarizing plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or third prong is provided for safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
• Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at the plugs and convenience receptacles, and at the point where they exit from the apparatus.
• Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
• Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.
  Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as the power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, or the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
• To be completely disconnected from the power input, the main plug of the AC/DC adapter shall be disconnected from the main.
• The main plug of the AC/DC adapter should not be obstructed OR should be easily accessed during intended use.
• The marking information is located at the bottom of the apparatus.
  The battery shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.
  The apparatus and AC/DC adapter shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing, and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus and AC/DC adapter.
  TO PREVENT THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER (OR BACK). THERE ARE NO USER-SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE THIS UNIT. PLEASE REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED HARMAN CONSUMER GROUP, INC., SERVICE PERSONNEL.
• Never remove grille covers in order to service the speaker system. The speaker system does not contain any user-serviceable parts.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS:

Before inserting or unplugging audio cables from the source device's headphones or line-level output jacks, it is good practice to turn off the device first. This will prolong the life of your unit, help protect your device from static electricity and prevent potential damage.

This complete docking sound system for iPod/iPhone is the new centerpoint of your personal entertainment space. Imagine a combined subwoofer and satellite sound system in one place, with no extra wires running across your table or desk surface. The compact JBL On Stage 400P high-performance sound center is controllable by remote, up to 15 ft. away. Connected to your iPod/iPhone, MP3 player or any other music source with an audio jack, the system produces clean, powerful sound. Take complete control of your music and videos with the JBL On Stage 400P speaker dock.

COMPATIBILITY

The JBL On Stage 400P system is compatible with all docking versions of the iPod/iPhone. A stereo mini jack connection also allows you to enjoy high-quality audio from a variety of other devices, such as iPod shuffle, MP3 and CD players, desktop computers (all platforms), satellite radio and laptops.

REMOTE

Just a touch of the Volume controls increases or decreases the volume. Using the Navigation controls, browse songs and photos, change tracks and settings, and more. With the JBL On Stage 400P remote, you have complete control of your iPod/iPhone, as though it were in your hand.

EVERCHARGE TOPOLOGY

The unit charges your iPod/iPhone, even when not connected to the computer or when the system is off.

COMPACT DESIGN

The JBL On Stage 400P loudspeaker dock is a complete 2.1-channel audio system, in one easy-to-place footprint.

DIGITAL POWER AND DSP

The system delivers sound with a powerfully tuned digital audio path. The clean and compact digital amplification, coupled with DSP (digital signal processing) equalization, efficiently provides the transducers with cool-running power.

QUICK SETUP INSTRUCTIONS

• Plug the barrel end of the power supply cord into the power jack and plug the other end into the wall.
• Next, push the power switch; a green LED will light up, indicating that the unit is powered.
  Find the correct adapter for your iPod/iPhone, then firmly place it into the docking area shown.
• Next, place your iPod/iPhone into the dock, making sure your iPod/iPhone is firmly seated.
• Adjust the volume, using (+) to increase and (-) to decrease. Press both to mute the JBL On Stage 400P unit. Press either button to unmute.

TROUBLESHOOTING

SOUND QUALITY

Symptom	Possible Problem	Solution	Note
No sound from the JBL On Stage 400P unit.	No power to the unit.	Make sure the wall power outlet or power strip has power. Make sure all switches for the outlet/power strip are on and that all switches for the speaker system are on.	Is the LED on? If not, power is not getting to your JBL On Stage 400P system; try the solutions shown.
	Incorrect source selection.	Make sure the iPod/iPhone is properly docked or that the auxiliary cable is properly connected to an external audio device. Turn up the volume. Check the system with a known good source, such as your iPod/iPhone. Connect the Auxiliary Port cable to the headphone jack on your iPod/iPhone.
Sound comes from one side/channel only.	iPod/iPhone or audio cable is not seated properly.	Make sure the iPod/iPhone or Auxiliary Port cable is seated all the way into the JBL On Stage 400P unit.	If you are using a longer cable, make sure it's a 3.5mm mini-jack stereo male-to-male cable.
Distortion (static, cracking or hissing sounds).	Noise may be caused by interference from a monitor, cell phone or other transmitting device.	Turn monitor off to see whether noise is eliminated. Move JBL On Stage 400P unit's cables farther away from monitor.
Too much bass or treble.	JBL On Stage 400P is being overdriven by an amplified audio source.	Make sure that the JBL On Stage 400P unit is connected to an appropriate source device.
		Make sure all signal cables are inserted snugly into receptacles.
	Volume level may be too high.	Check volume of source device.
		Some devices will distort the output signal if the volume is set to Maximum.
	Check the EQ setting on your iPod/iPhone or source device.	It is recommended that the source device EQ be set to Flat or Off.
JBL On Stage 400P unit emits a loud hum or buzzing noise.	Input cables are not plugged in properly.	Check input cable connection.
Speaker system experiences radio frequency interference or picks up a radio station.	Input cable may be picking up interference.	Wrap up excess input cable, in order to make it as short as possible.
Error message: "Device is not iPhone Compatible" is displayed on iPhone after docking on the unit.	iPhone has an old firmware version.	Upgrade iPhone firmware to latest version. Undock & re-dock iPhone in unit.

Symptom	Possible Problem	Solution	Note
iPod/iPhone will not charge.	Wrong adapter is used.	Make sure correct adapter is used for your specific iPod/iPhone model.
	The iPod/iPhone is not making full contact with the docking station.	Make sure the iPod/iPhone is seated securely into the docking station.

DISPOSAL: Do not dispose of this product as unsorted municipal waste. Collection of such waste separately for special treatment is necessary.

IMPORTANT: Use UM4/AAA/LR03 alkaline-type nonrechargeable batteries only.
