Basic Safety Instructions
- The appliance is intended to be used in household only and similar environments like:
– staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments,
– in farm houses,
– by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments, on bed and breakfast type environments.
- Repairs of Cloer electronic appliances should be carried out only by the Cloer customer service. Improper repairs can involve substantial dangers for the user. Moreover, it will void your warranty claims.
- Operate the appliance only with household-usual power sockets. Check if the mains voltage stated on the type plate is the same that your power supply network.
- The device must be connected to a power outlet with protective ground.
- If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Cloer in order to avoid any hazards.
- Pull power plug of the power socket
– in case of a defect,
- if the appliance is not used for a longer time,
– before any cleaning.
- Only pull out at the plug, never at the feed cable.
- Do not stretch the feed cable over sharp edges and do not tighten the feed cable too tight as otherwise the appliance is likely to tip over.
- Do not use the feed cable for carrying and protect it from heat (hotplate/ open flame)
- This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
- Cleaning and maintenance must not be carried out by children unless they are 8 years of age or older and are supervised.
- Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children less than 8 years old to avoid they play with it.
- Do not use the appliance outdoors.
- Protect your appliance from humidity (splash water/ rain).
- This appliance is not designed to be used with an external timer or separate remote-control system.
- Let the appliance cool off before cleaning or stowing away. More information about cleaning on the following pages.
- Do not immerse the appliance in water.
- ATTENTION: The housing will be hot during the process, please only touch the appliance by the grips.
- Only use the device to bake speculoos cookies. Misuse can lead to injury.

Before the first use

Read these operating instructions carefully before using the appliance for the first time.
- Remove all packaging elements and stickers, but not the rating plate.
- Place the spekulatius maker on a dry, flat, nonslip surface.
- Clean the baking surface with a damp cloth.
- Grease the baking surface before using it for the first time. Otherwise, greasing will not be needed due to the non-stick coating
- The first speculatius are unfit for human consumption because of hygienical reasons.

The appliance meets the requirements of the applicable CE directives.

The appliance is designed for indoor domestic use only.

ATTENTION! Always unplug the appliance when not in use and before cleaning.
- Never leave your speculoos machine unattended when it is in use.
- Make sure that you never place your speculaas maker near objects made of paper, fabric or similar.
- Make sure that the cable never comes into contact with hot surfaces.
- Never put your fingers into the device.
- To remove the speculoos, only use wooden or heat-resistant plastic cutlery so that the non-stick coating of the device is not scratched.
Starting up / Preheating
- Plug the appliance into the wall socket. Set the controller to 1 to preheat the appliance. Preheating in a higher level should be avoided in order not to overheat the coat. Once the red light turns off you can begin baking the waffles.

ATTENTION! Appliance becomes hot. Do not touch any part of the appliance except the handles or the operating elements.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the baking tin.
- The indicator light only shows the operating status. With this appliance, you must use a clock to determine the baking time for the desired degree of browning.
- The first ginger biscuits will tell you whether you have filled in enough dough and what your desired degree of browning should be. You will very quickly find the right quantity and time.
- To ensure that the biscuits are successful, it is important that you close the appliance after filling the dough and briefly press the handles together firmly. The pressure distributes and browns the batter quickly and evenly.
- Please remove the biscuits from the appliance immediately after the baking process is complete. Use a wooden fork or heat-resistant plastic cutlery.
Notes
- This device is designed for normal home use with an average daily use duration of two to three hours. After this, it must be carefully cleaned. It is not suitable for permanent or commercial use.
Cleaning
- Use a paper towel to clean the appliance while still warm.
- Tip: Place two absorbent paper towels between the baking surfaces and close the appliance
- Afterwards, wipe the device with a damp cloth but never under running water.
- Do not use caustic cleaning agents.
Recipes
Speculatius basic recipe
Ingredients
- 200 g flour
- 100 g cane sugar light
- 100 g butter
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 egg
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Preparation Put sugar, butter, flour, egg, salt, cinnamon and water in a mixing bowl.
Mix all ingredients well until dough is firm (use dough hook).
Shape dough into ball or rolls/cigar to fit baking plate form.
Baking time: 3 to 3.5 minutes or until desired browning level is reached. Remove the finished speculatus from the form and bake the remaining dough in the same way.

Goro waffle basic recipe Ingredients
- 300 g cold butter
- 500 g flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 vanilla pod
- 175 g cream
- 120 g sugar
- 1 egg
Preparation: Knead the cubed butter with the flour, cardamom and the seeds from the vanilla pod until crumbly.
Whip the cream until stiff. Whisk the egg with the sugar and carefully fold in the cream.
Knead the cream and egg mixture into the flour mixture. Wrap the dough in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for two hours.
Cut out a template the size of a Goro waffle from baking paper. This will help you to cut the dough to the right size later.
Roll out the Goro dough to a thickness of 2-3 mm on a floured work surface and cut out rectangles the size of the waffles. Knead the leftover dough and roll out and cut out again. Continue in this way until the dough is used up.
Preheat the waffle iron and brush with butter before baking for the first time. Then bake the waffles in the iron one after the other until golden brown and leave to cool on a wire rack.
Baking time: 3 to 3.5 minutes or until desired browning level is reached. Remove the finished Goro waffle from the form and bake the remaining dough in the same way.

We use environmentally friendly packaging for the transport of our appliances. Please recycle cardboard/ paper and plastic packaging appropriately.

Electrical appliances should not be disposed of with the household trash.
Electrical appliances contain valuable raw materials. When an appliance is worn-out, please take it to a recognised recycling facility. Consult the local authorities for information on recycling appliances.
Warranty
Cloer electrical appliances are in conformity with the currently required EC-guidelines and safety regulations. If your Cloer electrical appliance has a defect or it does not work properly, contact your specialist dealer. Registered clients have at their disposal our technical customer service.
