DEDRA DED8717A - Information on vibrations and noise - 1

Noise can cause hearing damage, always wear hearing protection when working!

The declared total vibration/noise value has been measured according to a standard test method and can be used to compare one device with another. The stated vibration/noise level can also be used for a preliminary vibration/noise exposure assessment.

Vibration/noise levels during actual use of the equipment may differ from the declared values, depending on the use of the work tools, in particular the type of workpiece and the need to determine operator protection measures. To accurately estimate exposure in actual use conditions, all parts of the work cycle must be taken into account, including periods when the machine is switched off or when it is switched on but not used for work.

8. Preparing for use

DEDRA DED8717A - Preparing for use - 1

Carry out all maintenance with rotating parts stationary, the engine switched off and the spark

plug wire disconnected.

Assembling the motor

Assemble the motor and boom by screwing them together with the screws provided (Fig. A, 5).

Assembly of the right handlebar

Mount the right handlebar to the handlebar as shown in figure A (Fig. A, 9). Ensure that the holes in the handlebar and handlebar are aligned. Put the locking screw through the holes and assemble with the nut on the opposite side of the handlebar (Fig. D, 4).

Mounting and adjusting the handlebar

Mount the handlebar in the handlebar holder so that the handle with the throttle trigger is on the right side. Tighten the mounting screws (Fig. A, 10; 11).

It is possible to adjust the handlebar relative to the axis of the boom and relative to the axis of the steering wheel. To adjust the handlebar setting, loosen the mounting screws, move the handlebar to the desired comfortable position. Tighten the mounting screws. After the motor and

handlebars have been screwed together, fasten the accelerator cable to the boom with cable ties.

Mounting the cowl

Screw the guard to the guard mount (Fig. A, 13) so that it is between the cutting tool and the user, below the boom, as shown in Fig. A.

Assembling and removing the lower part of the guard

The lower part of the guard is assembled with its upper part using the latches (Fig. A, 14, 16). To dismantle it, the clips must be properly levered while pulling them out of their corresponding holes. Reassembly of the lower part of the guard is carried out by pressing the snaps into the holes.

Selecting the cutting tool for the job in hand

For mowing grass, use the line head (Fig. F, 39). For mowing overgrowth or young trees, use the cutting disc (Fig. F, 35). It is forbidden to use the cutting disc in areas exposed to collision with other objects.

Assembling and removing the line head

To fit the head, interlock the spindle by inserting a screwdriver into the hole in the gearbox flange (Fig. E, 2). Then install the top stabilising ring (Fig. G, 92), the grass wrap guard around the spindle (Fig. G, 94) and screw the head with cutting line onto the spindle thread in sequence. Perform disassembly in the same manner. Use the line head with the complete guard (main part with the lower part fitted).

Assembling and removing the cutting disc

WARNING

To use the device with a metal blade, remove the lower part of the guard.

To install the cutting disc, place the upper stabilising ring (Fig. G, 92) on the spindle, then the disc so that it rotates in the direction indicated by the arrows on the disc (Fig. G, 93); then place the lower stabilising ring and guard (Fig. G 94, 95) on the spindle. Lock the spindle by inserting a screwdriver into the hole in the gear flange (Fig. E, 2), tighten the inserted components with a nut (Fig. G, 96), make sure that the disc is seated perpendicular to the spindle. Disassemble in the same way

Refuelling

WARNING

If fuel is spilled on the appliance, do not start the engine, carefully wipe up the area of flooding and then wait until the fuel has completely evaporated. Do not start the appliance where fuel has been spilled. The use of unleaded 95 petrol is recommended.

Lay the mower on a level surface, pour the previously prepared fuel into the fuel tank, no more than the maximum level of the tank. Use a mixture of petrol and diesel in a ratio of 40:1. Screw the fuel tank on, make sure the cap is tight. Store fuel only in closed canisters intended for this purpose and marked. Store fuel for no longer than 30 days in a dry and shaded place.

Use and adjustment of the shoulder strap

The shoulder strap should be worn 'over the shoulder'. The upper part of the belt should be worn on the left shoulder and the lower part (with a snap hook) should be worn around the wearer's right hip. Adjust the length of the belt so that the lowest part of the snap hook is at hip height. With experience, adjust the length of the belt to make it as comfortable as possible.

Balancing the device

To properly balance the unit, suspend it from a correctly adjusted shoulder strap or harness, loosen the sling bolt Fig. A, 6), find a position that allows the operator to sit comfortably and the cutting tool to rest lightly on the ground when the unit is not held by the handlebars. Retighten the sling bolt.

9. Switching on the device

WARNING

Before starting up the unit, it is essential to carry out the steps described in the section 'Preparing

for operation'.

WARNING

Care should be taken when starting the machine as the working tip may rotate.

To start the machine, lay it on a flat surface so that it rests on the cutting element guard and the fuel tank. Set the switch to the 'I' position (Fig. D, 1) and the suction valve lever to the appropriate position (Fig. C, 2; closed, upper lever position when the engine is cold, open, lower lever position when the engine is warm). Then press the fuel hand pump bellows (Fig. C, 3) a few times (5-8 times). Pull the starter handle vigorously, pressing the unit to the ground with the other hand. Do not press the unit to the ground with your foot. If necessary, pull the handle several times.

In the event of failure, switch the switch to the 'Start' position (it is necessary to first depress the throttle trigger safety and the trigger itself; Fig. D, 3, 2) and repeat the starter jerks. In case of further failure with a cold engine, repeat the starter jerks with the suction valve open (as for a warmed-up engine).

After starting, briefly depress the throttle trigger. When the trigger is released, the engine should be idling and the working end should not rotate. If this is not the case, switch off the unit and adjust the carburettor. To switch off the unit move the switch to the 'Stop-0' position.

10. Operation of the device

WARNING

Operation of the appliance must be carried out in accordance with all the instructions in Chapters 2

and 3 of this manual, with due care.

Select a suitable cutting tool before starting work.

Mowing of low grass (line) and young stands (cutting disc)

Hang the device from the dedicated belt. Stand straight with a slight stride to ensure a stable stance. Hold the cutting element just above the ground. Carry out mowing at full speed moving the unit from right to left, then return to the starting position and move to the next area to be mowed. Periodically ensure that there is no debris around the cutting head that could cause it to become blocked.

Mowing of tall grass (with line) and brush (with blade)

Hang the device from a dedicated belt or harness. Stand straight with a slight stride to ensure a stable stance. Work at full speed. To avoid wrapping tall plants around the cutting attachment, operate the cutting element at a height of several centimetres below the level of the tops of the plants, moving the unit from right to left, then return to the starting position. Repeat until the desired effect is achieved and move to the next area to be mowed. Do not raise the working tip above the hip line. Periodically make sure that there is no debris around the cutting head that could cause a blockage.

WARNING

The line is subject to wear during operation, check the length and wear condition of the line.

Automatic line feed

A convenient 'tap&go' system is used to unwind the cutting line.

To unwind the monofilament, tap the head against the ground so that the monofilament release button on the underside of the head releases the monofilament and allows it to unwind automatically.

Approximately 1cm of line will come out of the magazine on each side of the head.

11. Ongoing maintenance

WARNING

Carry out all maintenance with the rotating parts stationary, the engine switched off and the spark

plug wire disconnected.

For safe operation and to prolong the service life of the unit, regular servicing must be carried out under workshop conditions. Replace worn or damaged parts to maintain operational safety. Failure to carry out maintenance work or carrying it out incorrectly may result in a reduced service life of the unit and, in extreme cases, an accident.

Cleaning

Clean the unit after each use to remove any lingering plant debris. For more thorough cleaning, a slightly damp cloth can be used with a possible addition of non-aggressive cleaning agents.

Removing the line spool

On the cutting head, push in the locking latch pull off the head collar.

There is a spool of line underneath, which must be pulled out.

Winding of the line

Each time the line is topped up, the head components must be inspected. Do not continue to use a damaged head.

Remove the rest of the old monofilament from the spool, insert the centre of the monofilament about 5m in length into the fixing notch so that when it is bent 180°, it is wound in the direction of the arrows on the spool (Fig. B). Wind the two halves of the monofilament without tangling, on opposite sides of the spool baffle, until approximately 10cm of each part of the monofilament is unspooled. To prevent the line from unrolling, the ends of the line can be placed in the notches in the spool collar. It is recommended not to use line thicker than 3mm.

Fitting the monofilament spool in the cutting head

Thread the ends of the monofilament through the monofilament holes in the head drum, then place the spool in the head so that the arrows indicating the direction of winding are visible, following the order of the components i.e. washer - spring - washer - spool. Once you have ensured that the spool is well inserted, attach the head collar.

Sharpening of metal cutting tools

The cutting disc must be inspected each time the line is replenished. It is forbidden to continue using a damaged disc.

If there is a little wear, sharpen the tool with a file. Sharpen frequently by collecting a small amount of material. A few strokes of the file are sufficient to sharpen a slightly worn blade. After every 5 sharpening operations, check the balance of the tool on a special machine or have it checked by a specialist workshop. Sharpen severely worn cutting tools with a sharpening device or have them sharpened by a specialised service centre. Always check the balance of the tool after sharpening a heavily used tool.

Angle gear lubrication

To refill the grease in the bevel gear, unscrew the grease channel plug screw (Fig. E, 1), inject the grease into the centre of the gear housing in an amount such that it does not cover the thread in the grease channel. Screw in the screw. Refill the grease regularly after every 10 operating hours.

Cleaning the air filter

To clean the air filter, close the intake valve (Fig. C, 2; upper lever position), open the carburettor cover, remove the coarser dirt from around the filter and pull out the filter. Shake the filter off, blow it out or replace it with a new one, never rinse it. Insert the clean filter into the filter housing, close the cover. Clean the filter regularly, after every 10 operating hours.

Carburettor adjustment

The idle speed is adjusted by means of a screw located on the carburettor (Fig. C, 1). Turning the screw clockwise will increase the idle speed (done when the engine stalls for no reason when the user lets go of the throttle trigger), turning the screw counterclockwise will decrease the idle speed (done when the cutting element rotates even though the engine is running at idle speed).

Cleaning, replacement, adjustment of spark plugs

To remove the spark plug, disconnect the ignition cable (Fig. A, 1), unscrew the plug with the supplied spanner. Clean the spark plug with a spark plug cleaning brush and a clean cleaner (not applicable to spark plug replacement).

The gap between the electrodes should be between 0.6 and 0.7 mm. Adjust it with suitable tools.

Screw in the spark plug, connect the ignition cable. It is prohibited to remove the spark plug while the engine is hot.
