REQUIREMENTS ON THE INSTALLATION LOCATION
For safe and faultless operation of the unit, the following requirements of the installation location have to be met:
- The unit has to be placed on a solid, flat, horizontal, and non-slipping surface with a sufficient weight-carrying capacity.
PRIOR TO FIRST USE
- Clean the collecting container with warm water and a mild washing-up liquid. Then dry it off completely.
- Wipe the housing and the crank with a soft, slightly damp cloth if necessary.
- Carefully remove the crank with the lid from the housing and fill the coffee beans into the top of the coffee grinder (maximum approx. 25 g). Test different grinding levels by proceeding as described under 'Setting the grinding level'.
- To clean the grinder before the first use and to ensure that there are no production residues in the ground coffee, we recommend that you dispose of the ground coffee produced during the first use.
SETTING THE GRINDING LEVEL
- Remove the crank with the lid from the grinder, empty the grinder if necessary and put the lid back on.
- Unscrew the ground coffee container from the grinder. This gives you a view of the grinder.
- Set the grinding level on the grinder by holding the lever and turning the setting cross with three fingers in the different desired directions. Move the setting cross clockwise to grind finer and anti-clockwise to grind coarser. There is a noticeable click when adjusting.
- The correct grinding level setting depends on the brewing method and your individual taste.
- For a test grind, fill coffee beans into the grinder and place the crank with the lid back on the coffee grinder. Then turn the ground coffee container back under the grinder and grind for several revolutions. Then check whether the ground coffee has reached your desired grinding level.
Recommendation:
Very fine ground coffee for espresso from the group handle machine or Turkish mocha
Fine to medium ground coffee for filter coffee, espresso makers, Aeropress or Chemex
Coarse ground coffee for French press or brewing pots
- If you want to set a finer grinding level, you should remove all the coffee beans from the grinder. Then grind the grinder empty at the currently set level, as otherwise there may still be broken bean pieces between the
grinding cones when setting the grinder to a finer grinding level. These interfere with the adjustment to a finer grinding level. This is not absolutely necessary for setting a coarser grinding level.
- Tighten the ground material container again once the grinding level has been set.
GRINDING COFFEE BEANS
- Fill the coffee grinder with the desired amount of beans. Hold the coffee grinder by the centre section and turn the crank clockwise until all the beans have been ground. Unscrew the ground material container again and remove the ground coffee. It is advisable not to place the coffee grinder on a surface to ensure maximum power transmission.
CLEANING
The coffee grinder should be disassembled for cleaning. Remove the crank with the lid and empty the bean container.
Make sure that the coffee grinder is never washed or cleaned with water!
Only use the cleaning brush supplied. Remove the ground material container and turn the star handle for the grinding level setting anti-clockwise. This allows the adjusting disc and then the grinding cone to be removed. Behind the cone there is a spring, a cover disc and a bearing. Make a note of the order in which you remove the appliance so that you can reassemble it in reverse order after cleaning.
ATTENTION:
The edges and teeth of the grinder are very sharp!
Handle them with extreme care and keep children away from the coffee grinder.
Clean the cone and the grinding rim in the coffee grinder with the brush supplied. We recommend dry cleaning by brushing and blowing.
Reassemble the coffee grinder in reverse order.
To attach the setting cross and the setting disc, it makes sense to first attach the lid with the rotary lever so that you have more resistance when screwing it on.
The wooden handle can be maintained with conventional cooking oil. Please note that wood is a natural material and can change colour after a while.
TWO-YEAR WARRANTY
As from the date of purchase we assume manufacturer warranty of twenty four months for defects which can be traced back to manufacturing and material defect. Your legal warranty claim in conformity with Section 437 et seq. of the German Civil Code (BGB) shall remain unaffected by this regulation. The warranty does not cover any damage which is caused by incorrect handling or use as well as defects which only slightly influence the function or the value of the unit. Moreover, transport damage insofar we are not responsible shall be excluded from the claims under guarantee. Warranty shall be ruled out for damage, the repair of which has not been carried out by us or one of our representations. In case of justified complaints, we shall repair the defective product or replace it by a product without defects at our discretion.
