CAUTION! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in serious injury or death.

The term “appliance” or “product” in the warnings and instructions refers to the .

2.1. Workplace safety

a) If in doubt as to whether the product is working properly or is found to be damaged, contact the manufacturer's technical service.

b) Repairs to the appliance may only be carried out by the manufacturer's service. Do not attempt to repair the product on your own!

c) Keep this manual for future reference. If the product is to be handed over to a third party, hand it over with this user manual.

d) Keep packaging components and small installation parts out of the reach of children.

2.2. Safe use of the product

a) Clean the appliance regularly to prevent permanent deposits of dirt.

b) Always make sure that the nozzle is properly installed in the appliance and the hose is properly attached and free of damage before use.

c) Never attempt to tamper with the appliance to change its parameters or structure.

d) Keep the appliance away from sources of fire and heat.

e) The manual membrane pumps are intended only for removal of bilge water. They are not for emergency use to remove water overboard during extreme weather with flooding below deck, hull breach, and/or other hazards during the voyage.

f) Routinely inspect the suction hose for heavy dirt and clean it as required.

g) When installing the pump in the bilge and installing the suction and discharge hoses, avoid kinks and keep the maximum possible bending radii.

h) Do not install a check valve in any hose.

i) Note that the pump delivery performance will be reduced by:

  • long hose runs;
    • extreme twisting of hoses;
  • rough internal diameter of hoses;
    • a coupling bore diameter smaller than the hose bore;
  • obstructions in the hoses (like check valves or dirt inside the hose bore).

j) Thread the hoses onto the pump ports to secure. Secure the hose connections with hose clips tightened over the port stubs.

CAUTION! Although the appliance has been designed to be safe and has been provided with adequate safeguards, and despite the use of additional safety measures, there is still a low, residual risk of accident or injury during its duration. 3. Rules of use

This product is intended for evacuation of bilge water, and suitable for handling water or Diesel fuel.

The user is responsible for any damage caused by non-intended use.

3.1. Preparations for operation

POSITIONING THE APPLIANCE

  1. Install the pump in a readily accessible location. The bottom part of the pump can be reoriented on the housing (see Fig. 6).
  2. Mind the correct port assignment shown with "IN" for the suction side and "OUT" for the discharge side.
  3. Install the pump as close to the discharge outlet of the hose as possible. The shorter the discharge hose is, the better the pump's performance is.

INSTALLING THE APPLIANCE:

  1. Choose a location to install the pump in.
  2. Mark out the hole drilling pattern using the bolt hole locations in the pump base lugs.
  3. Carefully drill out the holes at the marks and use them to secure the pump base with suitable bolts. The installation substrate can be braced if needed by using a block of plywood (Fig. 7 item C).

MSW M-MBP-20LPM-2 - INSTALLING THE APPLIANCE: - 1

WARNING! Do not penetrate through the hull when drilling the mounting holes!

  1. Prepare two hoses. Slide hose clips over one end of each hose (use one clip to secure the hose to the pump discharge port and one clip to secure the hose to

the pump suction port). Slide each hose on the respective port of the pump. Secure with the hose clips.

  1. Run the discharge hose upward, towards the hull's thru-fitting for the water discharge. The discharge thru-fitting should be installed at least 30 cm above the water line to prevent backflow when the pump is not in operation (see Fig. 1 and 3).
  2. Avoid downward bends in the discharge hose or water can stagnate, resulting in air clogging of the pump. Avoid extreme stress and straining of the discharge hose or the discharge port stub may fail.
  3. Connect the discharge hose to the thru-fitting and secure the connection using a hose clip.
  4. The product is now ready for use.

HOSES:

  1. For the discharge hose, use a hose with internal reinforcement and the compatible I.D.
  2. Install the hose to achieve the lowest head downstream of the pump's discharge side.
  3. To prevent the backflow of water when the hull rolls or heaves, it is recommended to make an S-bend at the highest point of the discharge hose (which should be above the water line (see Fig. 1 and 3).
  4. Routinely inspect the suction hose for heavy dirt and clean it as required.
  5. When installing the pump in the bilge and installing the suction and discharge hoses, avoid kinks and keep the maximum possible bending radii.
  6. Do not install a check valve in any hose.

MSW M-MBP-20LPM-2 - HOSES: - 1

CAUTION! If the discharge hose is common to an electric bilge pump 4 item B), install a check valve between the electric bilge pump's large side and its tie-in of the manual bilge pump's discharge hose.

  1. Thread the hoses onto the pump ports to secure. Secure the hose connections with hose clips tightened over the port stubs.
  2. The hose shall be installed horizontally or with an uninterrupted slope upward away from the pump to eliminate air pockets.
  3. Always make sure that the nozzle is properly installed in the appliance and the hose is properly attached and free of damage before use.

3.2. Cleaning and maintenance

a) Routinely maintain and clean the pump. Failure to ensure hygienic treatment and maintenance is one of the reasons for low discharge capacity of the pump.
b) Use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning.
c) Do not clean with any sharp and/or metal implements (e.g. a wire brush or a metal scraper) as these may damage the surface of the appliance.
d) Do not clean the unit with acidic substances, medical products, thinners, fuel, oil or other chemicals as they may damage it.
e) Do not clean the pump with general-purpose household detergents; many of these products can compromise the pump materials.
