GENERAL INFORMATION

MACHINE DESCRIPTION

The boiler was designed to produce hot water using solid biomass as the fuel.

The boiler was designed and built according to standard EN 303-5.

The boiler was designed for connection to heating systems.

We will now give a short description of the boiler functioning principle.

The combustible stored in the tank reaches the crucible via the auger.

Combustion starts here using a resistor and air brought inside by the fan on the smoke outlet.

The combustion chamber is immersed in water contained in the cavities.

The heat is exchanged by conduction and radiated from the flame and by convection through the path taken by the smoke towards the chimney flue.

The water, once heated, will flow in the system via the circulator.

The boiler is equipped with a:

  • Circulator
  • Expansion tank 10 l (include a possible expansion tank on the circuit)
  • Safety valve 3 bar;
    • Gauge to check system pressure
    • Automatic cleaning system for crucible and smoke exchanger
  • Ash collection drawer
    • Electronic control unit with electronic panel with buffer control

FUEL USED

The boiler can burn granular type fuel, such as pellets, olive waste and hazelnut shells (no corn).

The fuel used must be good quality with the following minimum requirements:

  • Chips or granules without any chemical additives
  • Dimensions Max. length 20 mm and diameter 4 mm < ∅ < 6 mm
  • Heat power 21.60 MJ/kg = 5160 kcal/kg = 6,00kWh/kg
    at 16.74 MJ/kg = 3999 kcal/kg = 4.65kWh/kg
    • Density from 1.12 kg/dm ^3 to 1.4 kg/dm ^3
    • Humidity under 10%
  • Ash from 0.19% to 4.0%

The use of poor quality fuel damages the boiler functions and can cause the warranty to expire and with that the manufacturer's liability.

Edilkamin designed, tested and programmed its products to guarantee the best performance using Cat. A1 pellets according to Standard EN 14961-2:

N.B.: To guarantee problem-free combustion, the fuel must be kept in a dry place with no damp and far from heat sources.

INSTALLATION

AIR INTAKE

It is indispensable for the premises where the boiler is located to have an air intake section of at least 80 cm ^2 to guarantee consumed air reset for combustion.

Alternatively, you can take air for the boiler directly from outside using a steel extension with a pipe with a 6 cm diameter or located on the back of the boiler itself.

The pipe must be less than 1 metre long and not have bends.

CONNECTION TO CHIMNEY FLUE

The boiler works with forced draft, therefore the smoke extractor emits combustion air inside the chamber to enable combustion. It is therefore necessary to guarantee correct evacuation of the smoke connecting the boiler to a smoke flue that guarantees natural draft.

For connection to a smoke flue, local and national standards must be complied with.

A smoke flue must meet the following requirements:

- It must be in waterproof material and resistant to the temperature of the smoke and relevant condensate.

- It must have sufficient mechanical strength and weak thermal conductivity.

- It must be perfectly sealed to avoid cooling of the flue.

- Its progression must be as vertical as possible.

- It must be adequately distanced from combustible or flammable materials using air cavities or appropriate insulation.

- New or old chimneys built without compliance with specifications should be recovered by piping the chimney. You should therefore introduce a metal flue inside the existing chimney and fill with adequate insulation.

- The chimney flue must have a piping diameter of no less than the boiler outlet joint.

- There must be a preferably circular internal section; the square or rectangular section must have rounded corners with a radius of no less than 20 mm.

- It must have a constant, free, independent, and no choking internal section.

- The smoke tubes must not cross premises in which installation of the combustion appliances is forbidden.

- Flexible tubing is not allowed.

- A "T" tube must be installed immediately after the boiler outlet to periodically clean residue.

- A collective smoke pipe cannot be used.

INSTALLATION

EDILKAMIN LAGUNA M - INSTALLATION - 1

  • Only outlet pipes must be used suitable for the fuel used.
  • Correct installation of the chimney flue allows, in the event electrical energy is cut, normal smoke flow outwards.
  • Avoid creating completely horizontal sections.
  • An extractor hood must not be in the premises where the boiler is installed.
  • Direct discharge on the wall is not permitted.
  • Given the low temperatures of the smoke when the boiler is fully operational, the discharge channels must be created in suitable material to resist combustion products and their possible condensate.
    • Install an inspection valve to enable drainage of any condensate formed.
  • Use a rain-proof and wind-proof terminal.
  • You need to place one or more measurement points for sealed and/or auto-locking combustion analysis.
  • You are advised to check emissions after installation.
  • Draft must be guaranteed of 12 Pa.
  • It must not be installed in the same premises as other heating appliances.

INSTALLATION

CHIMNEY STACK

The chimney stack must have the following requirements:

• have a section and shape equivalent to that of the chimney flue;
- have a useful outlet section no less than double that of the chimney flue;
- be built to prevent rain, snow or foreign body penetration and, for wind, guarantee normal smoke flow;
- it must be positioned to guarantee adequate dispersion and dilution of combustion products, outside the back flow zone.

INSTALLATION

ROOF VENT WITH STEEL CHIMNEY FLUE

In installation of the chimney flue, always guarantee an inspection door to enable periodic cleaning of soot and a condensate collector with drainage to evacuate any condensate. If the smoke pipe is installed completely externally, you should make it fully in stainless steel with a double wall to guarantee better resistance to atmospheric agents and adequate temperature of the smoke vent.

ROOF VENT WITH TRADITIONAL CHIMNEY FLUE

Combustion gas can also be evacuated using an existing, traditional chimney flue provided it is built to standard.

It must comply with the following regulations:

  • it must be equipped with adequate insulation in the exposed external section;
  • the internal section must be constant;
  • it must be created using material resistant to high temperatures, the action of combustion products and any condensate that could form;
  • it must have a soot and condensate collection chamber which can be inspected via a door.
    • the smoke channel (section of piping that connects the boiler to the chimney flue) can have:
  • maximum 3 bends
  • maximum 2 metres horizontally

INSTALLATION

HYDRAULIC CONNECTION

Correct dimensioning of the boiler and the heating system, as well as the choice of type of system to install are the tasks of the installation technician and/or planner.

If installation of the boiler includes integration with another pre-existing system using a gas, diesel, wood-burning boiler, it must be carried out by qualified staff who will issue documentation on correct installation according to the standards in force in each country (for example in Italy pursuant to M.D. 37/2008 and pursuant to the standard UNI 10412-2)

EDILKAMIN LAGUNA M - HYDRAULIC CONNECTION - 1

It is important to wash the entire system before connecting the boiler to eliminate deposits and residue in compliance with Standard UNI 8065 (water treatment in heating systems for residential use).

Install shut-off valves upstream of the boiler to insulate it from the rest of the system if any movement or maintenance operation is necessary.

The hydraulic system must work with pressure between 1 and 1.5-2 bar hot on a closed heating circuit.

N.B.: The boiler should NOT be installed to replace a heating stove installed with an open circuit without adapting the expansion system, making it a closed circuit.

The boiler can check loading of a buffer using a temperature probe positioned on the buffer. If the temperature of the water in the boiler is over 50^ C the cycle can start, The system heats the buffer water, if the temperature of the boiler is over 5^ C the temperature of the buffer, if lower the circulator stops. To guarantee safety if the temperature of the water in the boiler exceeds 75^ C the circulator stays on. The system circulator P2 activates if the buffer temperature is over 50^ C.

SYSTEM FILLING

Having carried out all the plumbing connections for the boiler, you need to proceed with system filling. To correctly fill the system, proceed as follows:

  • open any shut-off valves;
  • open the radiator vents so the air exits without forming bubbles;
  • loosen the automatic vent valve plug under the front, upper surface; (jolly valve see figure below)

- open the loading valve and start the system very slowly;

- close the radiator vents as soon as the water exits;

- loading pressure must be over 1.5 bar;

- close the loading valve;

- release the air via the radiator vents;

- switch on the boiler for the first time bringing the system to temperature;

- stop the boiler and repeat the operations to bleed the air.

INSTALLATION

ELECTRICAL AND EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS (ONLY FOR INSTALLATION TECHNICIAN)

Electrical safety of the system must be guaranteed by an efficient earthing connection and use of a circuit breaker-differential switch with a distance between contacts of at least 3 mm.

The electrical parts inside the boiler require an electrical connection of 230 V – 50 Hz. The connection must be carried out to standard as planned by the CEI standards only by qualified technical staff.

It is also possible to connect an ambient thermostat to control boiler switch on. The thermostat acts as a "physical" switch on the boiler, permitting switch on or switch off by bringing the boiler to stand-by.

It is also possible to connect a system circulator that picks water from the buffer and brings it to the heating system.

- For installation, in Italy, you need to refer to the Declaration of Conformity in compliance with M.D. 37/2008 (formerly L. 46/90).

text_image Friday 09:35 Check Up P5 Man 25° 75° Pellet 2

During the CHECK UP the boiler checks the probes and cleans them with the fan at full speed. At the end of this phase, the boiler goes to SWITCH ONstatus during which pre-heating of the ignition glow plug, the initial loading of fuel and waiting for the flame to ignite occurs. Having reached the smoke temperature of 50°C, the glow plug switches off and partial loading of the fuel continues. At 60°C the flame is declared present, therefore the boiler goes to STABILISATION, a status during which the flame stabilises and combustion strengthens.

Having reached an adequate smoke temperature and 4 minutes have passed with a stable flame present, the system passes to NORMAL bringing the boiler to the desired power.

COMBUSTION

During combustion in NORMAL status, the system can pass to MODULATION if:

  • the smoke temperature exceeds the optimal value of the operating condition.
    • or the temperature of the water in the boiler exceeds the value of the thermostat set.

MODULATION has the purpose of reducing combustion to gradually reach the water thermostat value set or lower the smoke temperature. Modulation brings the system to power 1.

During combustion in NORMAL status, the system can pass to SWITCH OFF if:

• the smoke temperature goes below 50°C;
- the smoke temperature for each operating power goes below the minimum threshold.

During combustion, the system can go to SWITCH OFF and SAFE status if:

- the smoke temperature exceeds the factory threshold set.

• the boiler water temperature exceeds 85°C.

During combustion, the system can go to STAND-BY status if:

- the buffer temperature is over the SET temperature for 2 minutes.

On pressing the

EDILKAMIN LAGUNA M - COMBUSTION - 1

key, the boiler in whatever status, goes to SWITCH OFF.

This phase has the purpose of bringing the smoke temperature under the value of the boiler off 50^ C, once complete the system cleans the crucible and the exchangers and then goes to OFF status.
