Preparing the filter cartridge
1) Wash hands thoroughly before carrying out the following steps.
2) Check that the cartridge bag is not pierced before opening (fig. 1). Do not use the cartridge if the bag is pierced.
3) Place the cartridge in a container with cold drinking water (+4°C/+30°C) for 15 minutes and shake to remove air bubbles (fig. 2). Leave the cartridge immersed for 15 minutes.
4) After 15 minutes of immersion, place the cartridge in its position by pushing firmly (fig. 3).
5) Fill the tank with cold tap water up to the maximum level and leave it to filter without putting on the lid (fig. 4).
6) Dispose of the water (or use to water plants). The first filtrations can be dark in colour due to the carbon particles dispersed in the water. This is not a health hazard.
7) Repeat this step three times (points 5 to 6) filling the jug up to the maximum level each time and then emptying the water immediately after filtration.
8) Remove the cartridge and place on a clean surface (for example a plate). Clean all components.
9) Place the tank in the main unit. Place the cartridge in the sediment filter. Finally, insert the unit (cartridge + sediment filter) in the tank.
Activating the electronic cartridge lifetime indicator:
TEFAL water filter jugs are equipped with an electronic cartridge lifetime indicator. It advises when the cartridge should be changed and enables you to ensure optimum water filtration.
There are three types of electronic cartridge lifetime indicators.
To activate your electronic indicator, follow the stages below depending on the TEFAL filter jug model you have chosen.
For all types of electronic indicator, the countdown only begins after 1 litre of water has been filtered. It is therefore necessary to filter 1 litre of water immediately after activating the electronic indicator.
1. Filter jug with electronic cartridge lifetime indicator (Litres and time meter)
EN
- Press the “RESET” button for a few seconds until the screen displays the number “0” and a circle composed of four sections (fig.7a): the screen will flash once confirming that the electronic indicator has been activated.
- Filter 1 litre of water immediately after activating the electronic indicator.
- The figures indicate the number of litres filtered (up to a maximum of 150 litres); the circle is composed of four sections and indicates the available time remaining for filtration (up to a maximum of 30 days) (fig. 7a - fig. 7b - fig.7c - fig.7d).
- When you have filtered 150 litres and/or after 30 days, counting from the activation date, the digital indicator automatically returns to “0” and begins to flash: the cartridge needs replacing (fig. 7e).
2. Filter jug with electronic cartridge lifetime indicator (Simple meter)
- Press the “RESET” button for a few seconds until the four black bars are stable (fig. 8a).
- Three successive flashes indicate that the electronic indicator has been activated (four bars correspond to four weeks).
- Filter 1 litre of water immediately after activating the electronic indicator.
- The electronic indicator with a simple meter indicates the remaining filtration capacity for the cartridge (e.g.: remaining filtration capacity = 75% (fig 8b); remaining filtration capacity = 50% (fig 8c).
- When the cartridge needs replacing, the arrow flashes (fig.8d).
3. Filter jug with electronic cartridge Lifetime indicator
"Water hardness/softness meter"
The water hardness changes depending on the region where you live, as a result, the lifetime of your cartridge depends on the water hardness. Thanks to its electronic hard water/soft water indicator,
TEFAL allows you to optimise the lifetime of your cartridge.
Before setting your cartridge lifetime indicator, check the hardness of your tap water. To do this, fill a glass follow "tap" with "water" = amend format. Briefly immerse (for 1 second) one of the strips provided with your jug (fig. 9 and 10). Dry the strip to remove excess water. Wait one minute and compare the colour based on the following indications:
- The strip is a light green colour ("A" fig. 10): the tap water is not very hard, you can set your electronic cartridge lifetime indicator to six bars. The cartridge can be used for up to a maximum of 45 days.
- The strip is a pink colour ("B" fig. 10): the tap water is hard, you can set your electronic cartridge lifetime indicator to four bars. The cartridge can be used for up to a maximum of 30 days.
You can activate your electronic indicator according to water hardness as follows:
- First press the “RESET” button. Then press the “RESET” button again and hold for a few seconds until the arrow ▶ moves to the desired position: H for hard water, S for soft water (fig. 11a).
- HARD WATER SETTING: When the arrow ▶ is beside the letter H, four fixed bars are displayed and the arrow flashes. Release the “RESET” button and wait until the arrow ▼ disappears. Your indicator is then set for hard water (fig. 11b).
- Filter 1 litre of water immediately after activating the electronic indicator.
- SOFT WATER SETTING: When the arrow ▶ is beside the letter S, quickly press the “RESET” button once, six fixed bars are displayed and the arrow ▼ flashes. Release the “RESET” button and wait until the arrow ▼ disappears. Your indicator is then set for soft water (fig. 11a).
- Filter 1 litre of water immediately after activating the electronic indicator.
- When the cartridge needs replacing, the arrow flashes (fig.11c).
NOTE: for electronic meters, at the end of the cartridge lifetime, the display flashes until it is turned off (standby mode) to save battery. When you have replaced the cartridge, reactivate the display as indicated in the paragraph "ACTIVATING THE ELECTRONIC CARTRIDGE LIFETIME INDICATOR".
Important:
- Regardless of the type of electronic cartridge lifetetime indicator, if you hold the “RESET” button for a few seconds, the screen automatically resets the meter and reactivates the total filtration capacity.
- The lifetime for the electronic indicator is approximately two years, after these two years, the electronic indicator will no longer display any symbols. Contact your stockist or approved service centre to obtain a new electronic indicator.
Replacing the electronic indicator:
- To replace the electronic indicator: remove the small lever located on the upper part of the electronic indicator using the appropriate tool.
Filling the filter jug
Your TEFAL water filter jug has a lid with valve which allows easy and fast filling, without the need to remove the lid.
- Place the jug under the tap so that the water flows directly into the lid valve(I).
- Open the tap (the water stream pressure should not be strong, to prevent the water from splashing): the water automatically opens the lid valve and flows directly into the tank.
- When the tank is almost full, the lid valve closes slowly (fig. 5a). Reduce the water flow and close the tap until the lid valve closes (fig. 5b).
Replacing the filter cartridge
- To replace the filter cartridge remove the tank by pulling it upwards using the ring for this purpose (fig. 6).
Note: take care to remove the sediment filter before disposing of the used cartridge. Clean before repositioning on a new cartridge.
Note: the jug can also be used without the sediment filter.
Cleaning
1) Clean the sediment filter regularly with water after removing the cartridge.
2) Wash your filter jug once or twice a week (except for the cartridge) with soapy water, do not use detergents and abrasive pads or scouring powders. To keep your jug clear, it is advisable to limit the number of times you put it in the dishwasher.
3) Never wash the cartridge with soap or detergents.
4) If you are not going to use your filter jug for some time, it is recommended that you do not leave water in the system, remove the cartridge, clean all the parts, replace the cartridge in the tank and keep the jug in the fridge. Before using again, repeat step 9 in "PREPARING THE FILTER CARTRIDGE".
5) Clean the jug and all components every time you change the cartridge.
Important recommendations
1) The original packaged product must be stored away from heat sources and direct sunlight, in a clean environment and at a temperature between 15^ C and 30^ C. During use, the filter jug should preferably stored in the fridge.
2) Use cold water only (+4°C: +30°C).
3) If you have not used the jug for several consecutive days, empty the jug. Completely fill your jug, leave the jug to filter the water and then remove the filtered water. Your jug is now ready to use again.
4) The filter must be replaced after 150 litres of water filtered or after 30 days (45 days for models with a meter differentiating between hard/soft water), whichever of these is first.
5) For your protection, only use TEFAL sterilised filter cartridges.
