How to clean the SilverCrest SMS 300 B2 vacuum?

Before any cleaning, unplug the device. Clean the exterior with a slightly damp soft cloth. Empty the dust container after each use and clean the HEPA filter regularly. To clean the UV-C lamp, unscrew the cover and wipe it with a dry cloth.

How to empty the dust container?

Remove the dust container from the top of the device. Take out the HEPA filter, then remove the container cover. Empty the contents and wipe the inside with a dry cloth. Replace the cover and filter, then reinstall the container.

How to clean the HEPA filter?

After removing the HEPA filter from the dust container, place it in a plastic bag, close it and tap gently to remove dust. If necessary, rinse it with cold or lukewarm water, then let it dry completely before reinstalling.

The UV-C lamp does not turn on, what should I do?

Make sure the safety switches under the device are in contact with a flat surface. If the lamp still does not turn on, check that the vibration button is activated. If the problem persists, contact customer service.

The device no longer sucks, why?

Check that the device is turned on and plugged in. If the suction power is weak, it may be due to a full dust container or a clogged HEPA filter. Clean or replace them. Make sure the suction inlet is not blocked.

Can I use the vacuum on animals?

No, never use the device on people or animals. UV-C radiation can cause eye and skin damage. Use only on surfaces such as mattresses, sheets, and upholstered furniture.

What is the lifespan of the UV-C lamp?

The UV-C lamp should be replaced every 12 to 24 months depending on usage. The HEPA filter should be replaced every 12 to 18 months. To order parts, go to www.kompernass.com.

How to change the UV-C lamp?

First allow the lamp to cool. Unscrew the lamp cover using a screwdriver, remove the old lamp from the connection plugs, then insert a new UV-C lamp (6 W, G5). Replace the cover and screw it back.

Before using the product, please familiarise yourself with all operating and safety instructions. Use the product only as described and for the range of applications specified. Please also pass these operating instructions on to any future owner.

Intended use

The appliance is intended exclusively for killing bacteria and removing dust, germs and house mites. It is suitable for use on mattresses, bed sheets, duvets, upholstered furniture and the like. It may only be used indoors and in private households. Any other use is deemed improper.

The appliance is not intended for use in commercial or industrial environments. The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for damage caused by failure to observe these instructions, improper use or repairs, unauthorised modifications or the use of unapproved replacement parts. The risk is borne solely by the user.

Safety information

RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!

The rating of the power supply must correspond with the details given on the rating plate of the appliance.
▶ To avoid potential risks, arrange for a defective appliance to be checked and, if required, repaired by qualified technicians, or contact our Customer Service Department.
- Arrange for defective power plugs and/or cables to be replaced as soon as possible by a qualified technician or by our Customer Service Department to avoid the risk of injury.
▶ Pull only on the plug itself when unplugging the appliance, never on the power cable.

▶ Never use the appliance adjacent to water contained in a bath, shower, wash basin or other vessels. The proximity of water is hazardous, even if the appliance is switched off.
▶ Under no circumstances should the appliance be immersed in liquids or liquids be allowed to penetrate the housing.
- Do not expose the appliance to humidity and do not use it outdoors. If any liquid gets into the housing, disconnect the appliance from the power socket immediately and have it repaired by a qualified technician.
▶ Do not open the appliance housing. If the appliance is defective, have it repaired by an authorised technician only.

The bactericidal ultraviolet rays of the UV-C lamp on the underside of the appliance are harmful to eyes and skin. Never expose yourself, other persons or animals to direct or reflected radiation. In case of exposure to the radiation, seek medical attention immediately.
▶ Make sure that the safety switches of the UV-C lamp are not blocked.
- Keep animals, hair, jewellery, loose clothing, fingers and all other parts of the body away from the suction opening of the appliance in order to prevent tight suction. Switch the appliance off immediately if it sucks onto any body part or object.
▶ Do not touch the vibration head during operation.
- Ensure that the connected power cable is not a hazard to tripping.
▶ Never leave the appliance unattended while it is switched on or connected to the mains power supply. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
▶ Never allow children to use the appliance unattended.
- Allow the UV-C lamp to cool down sufficiently after use. Otherwise, there is a risk of burns.
▶ Never place your hand under the appliance while it is still in operation.

▶ Do not insert anything into the openings of the appliance and make sure that they are not blocked.
▶ Make sure that the ventilation openings on the sides of the appliance are not blocked.
▶ To avoid a fire during operation, do not cover the appliance.
▶ Do not use the appliance in rooms containing highly flammable substances or toxic or explosive vapours.
In case of fire, do not extinguish the appliance with water. Asphyxiate flames with a fireproof blanket or use a suitable fire extinguisher.

-flammable or flammable substances
-glowing embers, burning cigarettes, matches, etc.
- liquids or wet substances (e.g. wet carpet shampoo)

- Do not place or lay any heavy objects on the product, power plug, or powercable.
▶ Do not attempt to lubricate the rollers with lubricant or oil. This would cause more dust and dirt to stick to the rollers.
▶ Do not clean the appliance with aggressive, chemical or abrasive cleaning agents. They could damage it.

Safety switches

The appliance has two safety switches ⑩ on the left and right of the underside of the appliance. The UV-C lamp ⑧ only switches on when the vibration button ⑫ is pressed if both safety switches ⑩ are pressed simultaneously. This deactivates the automatic switch-off of the UV-C lamp ⑧. This happens automatically when the switched-on appliance is placed on a level surface (fig. A).

If the safety switches lose contact with the substrate, the automatic switch-off function is activated and the UV-C lamp ⑧ stops lighting (figs. B and C).

Operation

WARNING! RISK OF INJURY!

▶ Never look into the UV-C lamp ^8 during use!
▶ Never use the appliance on people or animals! UV radiation can lead to injuries to eyes and skin.
▶ Only operate the appliance when it has been properly assembled. This is the only way to avoid the dangers of UV radiation.
▶ Use this appliance only as described in these operating instructions. This is the only way to avoid the dangers of UV radiation.

NOTE

▶ Use the appliance only if it is completely and correctly assembled. The dust container ③ and the HEPA dust filter ④ must be inserted correctly and undamaged. If dirt gets into the motor of the unit, it could cause motor damage.
▶ Make sure that the safety switches of the UV-C lamp ^8 on the underside of the appliance are not blocked.
▶ Test the appliance on a small, unobtrusive spot first.

1) Plug the power plug into a properly installed, easily accessible wall outlet.

2) Place the appliance flat on the surface to be cleaned.

3) To switch the appliance on, push the On/Off switch Ⓓ 2 forwards. The appliance starts vacuuming.

4) Press the vibration button 12 to activate the vibration head 7. The vibration shakes up the surface to be cleaned and the swirled up dust is sucked in through the suction opening 9. Pressing the vibration button 12 also switches on the UV-C lamp 8.

5) Move the appliance evenly over the surface to be cleaned.

6) After vacuuming, push the On/Off switch ① ② back to switch off the appliance.

7) Unplug the appliance from the mains socket.

Usage recommendations

◆ Always clean mattresses from both sides.

New mattresses should be cleaned once a month. Older mattresses should first be cleaned daily for one week. Afterwards, cleaning should take place once a month.

The HEPA dust fil should be changed every 12 - 18 months depending on use, the UV-C lamp every 12 - 24 months. If you have any questions about spare parts, please contact customer service (see section Service).

Cleaning

▶ Before cleaning the appliance, disconnect the power plug from the power socket. Otherwise, there is a risk of electrocution.

CAUTION! PROPERTY DAMAGE!

▶ Do not use abrasive, aggressive or chemical cleaning agents. They can damage the surface and also lead to irreparable damage to the appliance.

- Clean the appliance only with a soft cloth lightly moistened with water.

Empty the dust contain 3 after each use of the appliance. The HEPA dust filter 4 must also be cleaned regularly to avoid overloading the motor.

◆ Pull the dust container ③ upwards out of the appliance (fig. D).

◆ Empty the dust container ③.
If necessary, wipe the dust contain ③ and the recess for the dust container ③ with a dry duster.
Also wipe the cover of the dust contain ③ with a dry duster.
Replace the cover of the dust contain ③. Make sure that the cover is completely pushed into the dust container ③ and closes it tightly.

Cleaning the HEPA dust filter

After you have removed the HEPA dust filter 4 from the dust container 3, place the HEPA dust filter 4 in a plastic bag. Close the plastic bag and knock the HEPA dust filter 4 out carefully.

- Wait until the dust in the plastic bag has settled and then remove the HEPA dust filter 4 from the plastic bag. Close the plastic bag again and dispose of it afterwards.

If necessary, you can rinse out the HEPA dust filter ④ with fresh cold or lukewarm water. Allow the HEPA dust filter ④ to dry out completely.

After cleaning, replace the HEPA dust filt in the dust container so that it is firmly seated.

Replace the empty dust container ③ with the inserted HEPA dust filter ④ in the recess for the dust container ③ on the appliance.

NOTE

▶ New HEPA dust filters ^4 can be reordered from the customer service (see section Ordering spare parts).

Cleaning the UV-C lamp

WARNING! RISK OF INJURY!

The UV-C lamp ^8 gets hot during use. Allow the UV-C lamp ^8 to cool down sufficiently after use. Otherwise, there is a risk of burns.

Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw on the cover of the UV-C lamp and remove the cover.

◆ Wipe the UV-C lamp ⑧ with a dry duster.

NOTE

- Be careful not to touch the UV-C lam8 with your fingers.

Put on the cover and fix it again with the screw.

Changing the UV-C lamp

WARNING! RISK OF INJURY!

The UV-C lamp ^8 gets hot during use. Allow the UV-C lamp ^8 to cool down sufficiently after use. Otherwise, there is risk of burns.

The technical information data for the UV-C lamp ⑧ can be found in the section Technical data.

Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw on the cover ⑬ of the UV-C lamp ⑧ and remove the cover ⑬.

◆ Pull the UV-C lam out of the plug connections.

Insert a new UV-C lam ^8 into the plug connections.

Put on the cover and fix it back in place with the screw.

Storage

◆ Store the appliance in a clean and dry place away from direct sunlight.

The product, its packaging and the operating instructions are recyclable. They are subject to an extended manufacturer responsibility and will be collected separately.

Disposal of the appliance

NOTE

Remove the UV-C lamp ^8 before disposing of the appliance and dispose of it separately from the appliance.

The adjacent symbol of a crossed-out dustbin means that this appliance is subject to Directive 2012/19/EU. This directive states that this appliance may not be disposed of in the normal household waste at the end of its useful life, but must be taken to specially set-up collection locations, recycling depots or disposal companies.

The disposal is free of charge for the user. Protect the environment and dispose of this appliance properly.

If your old appliance has stored any personal data, you are responsible for deleting it yourself before returning it.

If it is possible to do so without destroying the old appliance, remove the old batteries or rechargeable batteries and lamps before returning the appliance for disposal and take them to a separate collection point. In the case of permanently installed rechargeable batteries, you must indicate during disposal that the appliance contains a battery.

Your local community or municipal authorities can provide information on how to dispose of the worn-out product.

Disposal of the packaging

The packaging materials have been selected for their environmental friendliness and ease of disposal and are therefore recyclable. Dispose of packaging materials that are no longer needed in accordance with applicable local regulations.

Dispose of the packaging in an environmentally friendly manner. Note the labelling on the packaging and separate the packaging material components for disposal, if necessary. The packaging material is labelled with abbreviations (a) and numbers (b) with the following meanings: 1–7: plastics, 20–22: paper and cardboard, 80–98: composites.

Troubleshooting

The following table will help you to identify and rectify minor malfunctions. If the solutions presented below do not resolve the problem, please contact Customer Service (see section Service).

The UV-C lamp 8 does not light up.	The automatic switch-off device of the UV-C lamp 8 has been activated.	Check the safety switches 10 left and right (see section Safety switches).
	The UV-C lamp 8 or appliance is defective.	Contact Customer Service (see section Service).
The vibration head 7 does not vibrate.	The vibration function is not switched on.	Press the vibration button 12.
An unpleasant odour escapes from the appliance during suction.	Odours often develop when new appliances are used for the first time.	The smell should disappear after the appliance has been used a few times.
	The appliance is defective.	Switch off the appliance, pull out the power plug from the socket and contact Customer Service (see section Service).

The directions in the operating instructions for the product regarding proper use of the product are to be strictly followed. This product is intended solely for private use and not for commercial purposes. The warranty shall be deemed void in cases of misuse or improper handling, use of force and modifications / repairs which have not been carried out by one of our authorised Service centres.
