SMS 300 B2 Introduction Congratulations on the purchase of your new appliance. You have selected a high-quality product. The operating instructions are part of this product. They contain important information on safety, usage and disposal. Before using the product, please familiarise yourself with all operating and safety instructions. Intended use The appliance is intended exclusively for killing bacteria and removing dust, germs and house mites. It is suitable for use on mattresses, bed sheets, duvets, upholstered furniture and the like. It may only be used indoors and in private households. Any other use is deemed improper. The appliance is not intended for use in commercial or industrial environments. The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for damage caused by failure to observe these instructions, improper use or repairs, unauthorised modifications or the use of unapproved replacement parts.  3 ■ SMS 300 B2 Safety information RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK! ► The rating of the power supply must correspond with the details given on the rating plate of the appliance. ► To avoid potential risks, arrange for a defective appliance to be checked and, if required, repaired by qualified technicians, or contact our Customer Service Department. ► Arrange for defective power plugs and/or cables to be replaced as soon as possible by a qualified technician or by our Customer Service Department to avoid the risk of injury. ► Pull only on the plug itself when unplugging the appliance, never on the power cable. ► Never bend (kink) or crush the power cable; always route it in such a way that it cannot come into contact with hot surfaces and such that no one can step on it or trip over it. ► Disconnect the mains plug before cleaning and after each use. ► Always unwind the power cable fully before switching on and do not use an extension cable. ► Never touch the power cable or the plug with wet hands. ► Never use the appliance adjacent to water contained in a bath, shower, wash basin or other vessels . The proximity of water is hazardous, even if the appliance is switched off. ► Under no circumstances should the appliance be immersed in liquids or liquids be allowed to penetrate the housing. ► Do not expose the appliance to humidity and do not use it outdoors. If any liquid gets into the housing, disconnect the appliance from the power socket immediately and have it repaired by a qualified technician

 5 ■ SMS 300 B2 WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! ► The bactericidal ultraviolet rays of the UV-C lamp on the underside of the appliance are harmful to eyes and skin. Never expose yourself, other persons or animals to direct or reflected radiation. In case of exposure to the radiation, seek medical attention immediately. ► Make sure that the safety switches of the UV-C lamp are not blocked. ► Keep animals, hair, jewellery, loose clothing, fingers and all other parts of the body away from the suction opening of the appliance in order to prevent tight suction. Switch the appliance off immediately if it sucks onto any body part or object. ► Do not touch the vibration head during operation. ► Ensure that the connected power cable is not a hazard to tripping. ► Never leave the appliance unattended while it is switched on or connected to the mains power supply. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. ► Never allow children to use the appliance unattended. ► Allow the UV-C lamp to cool down sufficiently after use. Otherwise, there is a risk of burns. ► Never place your hand under the appliance while it is still in operation.■ 6 

SMS 300 B2 RISK OF FIRE! ► Do not insert anything into the openings of the appliance and make sure that they are not blocked. ► Make sure that the ventilation openings on the sides of the appliance are not blocked. ► To avoid a fire during operation, do not cover the appliance. ► Do not use the appliance in rooms containing highly flammable substances or toxic or explosive vapours. ► In case of fire, do not extinguish the appliance with water. Asphyxiate flames with a fireproof blanket or use a suitable fire extinguisher. CAUTION! PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Do not use the appliance to vacuum up the following items: – flammable or flammable substances – glowing embers, burning cigarettes, matches, etc. – liquids or wet substances (e.g. wet carpet shampoo) – very fine dust (e.g. concrete dust), ash or toner – sharp, hard objects (e.g. glass splinters) ► Do not place or lay any heavy objects on the product, power plug, or powercable. ► Do not attempt to lubricate the rollers with lubricant or oil. This would cause more dust and dirt to stick to the rollers. ► Do not clean the appliance with aggressive, chemical or abrasive cleaning agents. They could damage it.GB

There is a risk of suffocation. ♦ Remove all parts of the appliance and the operating instructions from the carton. ♦ Remove all packaging materials from the appliance. SMS 300 B2 Safety switches The appliance has two safety switches 0 on the left and right of the underside of the appliance. The UV-C lamp 8 only switches on when the vibration button w is pressed if both safety switches 0 are pressed simultaneously. This deactivates the automatic switch-off of the UV-C lamp 8. This happens automatically when the switched-on appliance is placed on a level surface (fig. A).

UV-C lamp on If the safety switches lose contact with the substrate, the automatic switch-off function is activated and the UV-C lamp 8 stops lighting (figs. B and C).

UV-C lamp off Operation WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! ► Never look into the UV-C lamp 8 during use! ► Never use the appliance on people or animals! UV radiation can lead to injuries to eyes and skin. ► Only operate the appliance when it has been properly assembled. This is the only way to avoid the dangers of UV radiation. ► Use this appliance only as described in these operating instructions. This is the only way to avoid the dangers of UV radiation. NOTE ► Use the appliance only if it is completely and correctly assembled. The dust container 3 and the HEPA dust filter 4 must be inserted correctly and undamaged. If dirt gets into the motor of the unit, it could cause motor damage. ► Make sure that the safety switches of the UV-C lamp 8 on the underside of the appliance are not blocked. ► Test the appliance on a small, unobtrusive spot first.GB

1) Plug the power plug into a properly installed, easily accessible wall outlet.

2) Place the appliance flat on the surface to be cleaned.

3) To switch the appliance on, push the On/Off switch

2 forwards. The appliance starts vacuuming.

4) Press the vibration button

w to activate the vibration head 7. The vibration shakes up the surface to be cleaned and the swirled up dust is sucked in through the suction opening 9. Pressing the vibration button w also switches on the UV-C lamp 8.

5) Move the appliance evenly over the surface to be cleaned.

6) After vacuuming, push the On/Off switch

2 back to switch off the appliance.

7) Unplug the appliance from the mains socket.

Usage recommendations ♦ Always clean mattresses from both sides. ♦ New mattresses should be cleaned once a month. Older mattresses should first be cleaned daily for one week. Afterwards, cleaning should take place once a month. ♦ The HEPA dust filter 4 should be changed every 12 –18 months depending on use, the UV-C lamp 8 every 12 – 24 months. Cleaning RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK! ► Before cleaning the appliance, disconnect the power plug from the power socket. Otherwise, there is a risk of electrocution. CAUTION! PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Do not use abrasive, aggressive or chemical cleaning agents. They can damage the surface and also lead to irreparable damage to the appliance. ♦ Clean the appliance only with a soft cloth lightly moistened with water. ♦ Empty the dust container 3 after each use of the appliance. The HEPA dust filter 4 must also be cleaned regularly to avoid overloading the motor.■ 10 

♦ Reach into the opening of the HEPA dust filter 4 and pull it out of the dust con tainer 3 (fig. E).

♦ Remove the cover of the dust container 3 (fig. F).

♦ Also wipe the cover of the dust container 3 with a dry duster. ♦ Replace the cover of the dust container

completely pushed into the dust container 3 and closes it tightly.GB

 11 ■ SMS 300 B2 Cleaning the HEPA dust filter ♦ After you have removed the HEPA dust filter 4 from the dust container 3, place the HEPA dust filter 4 in a plastic bag. Close the plastic bag and knock the HEPA dust filter 4 out carefully. ♦ Wait until the dust in the plastic bag has settled and then remove the HEPA dust filter 4 from the plastic bag. Close the plastic bag again and dispose of it afterwards. ♦ If necessary, you can rinse out the HEPA dust filter 4 with fresh cold or lukewarm water. Allow the HEPA dust filter 4 to dry out completely. ♦ After cleaning, replace the HEPA dust filter 4 in the dust container 3 so that it is firmly seated. ♦ Replace the empty dust container 3 with the inserted HEPA dust filter 4 in the recess for the dust container 3 on the appliance. NOTE ► New HEPA dust filters 4 can be reordered from the customer service (see section Ordering spare parts). Cleaning the UV-C lamp WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! ► The UV-C lamp 8 gets hot during use. Allow the UV-C lamp 8 to cool down sufficiently after use. Otherwise, there is a risk of burns. ♦ Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw on the cover e of the UV-C lamp 8 and remove the cover e. ♦ Wipe the UV-C lamp 8 with a dry duster. NOTE ♦ Be careful not to touch the UV-C lamp 8 with your fingers. ♦ Put on the cover e and fix it again with the screw. Changing the UV-C lamp WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! ► The UV-C lamp 8 gets hot during use. Allow the UV-C lamp 8 to cool down sufficiently after use. Otherwise, there is risk of burns. ► The technical information data for the UV-C lamp 8 can be found in the section Technical data. ♦ Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw on the cover e of the UV-C lamp 8 and remove the cover

♦ Pull the UV-C lamp 8 out of the plug connections. ♦ Insert a new UV-C lamp 8 into the plug connections. ♦ Put on the cover e and fix it back in place with the screw.■ 12

Disposal of the appliance NOTE ► Remove the UV-C lamp 8 before disposing of the appliance and dispose of it separately from the appliance. The adjacent symbol of a crossed-out dustbin means that this appliance is subject to Directive 2012/19/EU. This directive states that this appliance may not be disposed of in the normal household waste at the end of its useful life, but must be taken to specially set-up collection locations, recycling depots or disposal companies. The disposal is free of charge for the user. Protect the environment and dispose of this appliance properly. If your old appliance has stored any personal data, you are responsible for deleting it yourself before returning it. If it is possible to do so without destroying the old appliance, remove the old batteries or rechargeable batteries and lamps before returning the appliance for disposal and take them to a separate collection point. In the case of permanently installed rechargeable batteries, you must indicate during disposal that the appliance contains a battery. Your local community or municipal authorities can provide information on how to dispose of the worn-out product.GB

Dispose of packaging materials that are no longer needed in accordance with applicable local regulations. Dispose of the packaging in an environmentally friendly manner. Note the labelling on the packaging and separate the packaging material components for disposal, if necessary. The packaging material is labelled with abbreviations (a) and numbers (b) with the following meanings: 1–7: plastics, 20–22: paper and cardboard, 80–98: composites. Troubleshooting The following table will help you to identify and rectify minor malfunctions. If the solutions presented below do not resolve the problem, please contact Customer Service (see section Service). Fault Cause Remedy The appliance does not suck. The appliance is not switched on. Make sure that the appliance is properly connected to the power supply and press the On/Off switch

The plug is not plugged in. Insert the power plug into the socket. The mains socket is not supplying power. Check the house fuses The suction power is too weak. The dust container 3 is full. Empty the dust container

The HEPA dust filter 4 is dirty. Clean the HEPA dust filter

is blocked. Turn off the appliance, pull out the plug from the wall socket and remove the blockage. The UV-C lamp

The automatic switch-off device of the UV-C lamp 8 has been activated. Check the safety switches

left and right (see section Safety switches). The UV-C lamp 8 or appliance is defective. Contact Customer Service (see section Service). The vibration head 7 does not vibrate. The vibration function is not switched on. Press the vibration button w.■ 14 

SMS 300 B2 Fault Cause Remedy An unpleasant odour escapes from the appliance during suction. Odours often develop when new appliances are used for the first time. The smell should disappear after the appliance has been used a few times. The appliance is defective. Switch off the appliance, pull out the power plug from the socket and contact Customer Service (see section Service). Warranty conditions The warranty period starts on the date of purchase. Please keep your receipt in a safe place. This will be required as proof of purchase. If any material or manufacturing fault occurs within three years of the date of purchase of the product, we will either repair or replace the product for you or refund the purchase price (at our discretion). This warranty service requires that you present the defective appliance and the proof of purchase (receipt) within the three-year warranty period, along with a brief written description of the fault and of when it occurred. If the defect is covered by the warranty, your product will either be repaired or replaced by us. The repair or replacement of a product does not signify the beginning of a new warranty period.
