USER MANUAL The Sub Compact KRUPS

: a system that cools, preserves and serves beer from THE TORP. THE TORP

: a container with 2 litres of beer. THE SUB COMPACT can only be used with THE TORP and vice versa. IMPORTANT: To assure optimal performance of the appliance and good quality of beer: always leave THE SUB COMPACT switched on when THE TORP is inside. If you switch THE SUB COMPACT off with THE TORP inside, it will not cool THE TORP anymore, neither will it keep THE TORP under pressure.15

• Read the instructions for use carefully before using your appliance for the rst time and keep them: improper use will release the manufacturer from any liability.

• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

• Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

• Your appliance is intended for domestic use only, inside the house and at an altitude of less than 2000 m.

• It is not intended to be used in the following applications, and the guarantee will not apply for: - Staff kitchen areas in stores, offices and other working environments; - Farms and client use of hotels, motels and other residential environments; - Bed and breakfast type environments. - Restaurants and other similar venues, except where retail sales are involved.

• Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a ammable propellant in this appliance.

• If the power cord is damaged, do not use the appliance. The power cord must necessarily be replaced by the manufacturer, by its after- sales service or by similarly qualied persons in order to avoid all risks.

• This appliance can be used by children over 8 years old and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities, or lacking experience or knowledge, only if they are properly supervised or if they have received instructions as to how to use of appliance safely and they understand the implicit risks.

• Children must not play with the appliance.

• Children should not clean or perform maintenance procedures on the appliance unless they are supervised by a responsible adult.

• Only connect the appliance to a mains voltage supply that coincides with the voltage indicated on the sign plate of your appliance. The connection to an incorrect supply voltage will invalidate16 the guarantee and could be dangerous.

• This product has been designed for domestic use only. Any commercial use, inappropriate use or failure to comply with the instructions, the manufacturer accepts no responsibility and the guarantee will not apply. Only use compatible TORP.

• Do not store anything else than a TORP in the appliance.

• Always use the appliance on a at, stable, heat-resistant surface which is protected from heat sources or water splashes. In order to protect people against re, electric shocks and injuries, avoid immersing the power cord or plug in water or any other liquid.

• Never unplug the appliance with wet hands. In case of an emergency, unplug the the appliance immediately.

• Do not use the appliance without a drip tray.

• After using the appliance, empty and clean the drip tray on a daily basis.

• Unplug the appliance from the mains whenever you are not using it.

• Unplug the appliance from the socket before cleaning it. Never clean the appliance with wet utensils and do not soak it in liquid.

• Never use detergents to clean the appliance. Clean the appliance using only soft sponges and brushes.

• In case of a prolonged period without use (vacations, storage, etc.), unplug, empty and clean the appliance.

• Any functioning, cleaning or maintenance which is outside the limits of normal use should only be carried out by local authorised service centres. Do not disassemble the appliance or place any objects in any of its openings.

• The use of accessories not recommended by the manufacturer could cause res, electric shocks or injuries.

• Do not let the power cord hang from the edge of a table or work top, nor come into contact with hot surfaces or sharp edges.

• Do not let the power cord hang (to avoid the risk of stumbling).

• Never touch the power cord with wet hands.

• Do not place the appliance on a gas or electric stove, nor near such heat sources, nor inside a hot oven.

• Remove the plug from the socket. Do not unplug the plug by pulling on the cable.

• In case you need to use the appliance with an extension cord, respect the corresponding load recommendations for the extension.

• If the wall outlet does not correspond to the appliance plug, have the plug replaced by the after-sales service or by similarly qualied persons in order to avoid all risks.

• THE TORP is made of recyclable materials. Contact the local authorities for more information on recycling programs. Your appliance contains materials that can be recovered or recycled. IMPORTANT: Always leave the THE SUB COMPACT on if you have a TORP inside.

WARNING: When positioning the appliance, ensure the supply

cord is not trapped or damaged.

1 – PREPARING THE SUB COMPACT

INSTALLATION THE SUB COMPACT should be used indoors at a room temperature of between 12°C and 28°C. The original packaging has been designed to protect the appliance. We recommend that you keep it for future transport. Take THE SUB COMPACT out of its packaging, along with the drip tray and the tap handle, and place them on a at, dry surface that is clean and large enough (1-2). Do not install THE SUB COMPACT near heat sources or in places that are directly exposed to sunlight. Install the drip tray to the front of the appliance. Plug THE SUB COMPACT into an appropriate socket (3). Check that the red temperature indicator lights up. Tip: We recommend connecting THE SUB COMPACT to the power supply at least one hour before installing a TORP. TEMPERATURE INDICATOR Red: THE SUB COMPACT is connected to the power supply. The cooling process is in progress. Green: the beer is at optimum temperature and ready to serve. Please note: when the indicator light turns green, the appliance may not have reached its optimal temperature. NOISE THE SUB COMPACT is tted with a cooling system that regulates the temperature of THE TORP. It is usual for this technology to generate some sound, particularly during the cooling phase. THE SUB COMPACT is also tted with a pump to keep THE TORP under pressure. During use, the pump will start up automatically, generating a sound that will stop after a few seconds.

IMPORTANT: before inserting a TORP into THE SUB COMPACT, check the Use By Date indicated on the side of THE TORP. Do not use THE TORP if it has passed this date. To reduce the cooling time, we recommend storing THE TORP in the refrigerator for a few hours before use. See the instructions on THE TORP. Tip: we recommend always keeping a spare TORP in the refrigerator. In this way, you will always have a chilled TORP available. Do not store THE TORP at a temperature of more than 28° C or at temperatures below zero, and do not expose it to direct sunlight. Do not shake or drop it.19

For an optimum temperature, only serve the beer when the temperature indicator has changed to green. In THE SUB COMPACT: cooling of the beer to a temperature of 2°C inside THE SUB COMPACT takes around 12 hours if THE TORP and the appliance are at room temperature (22°C). In the refrigerator: this time may be reduced by several hours if THE TORP has been stored in the refrigerator the day before. The temperature of the beer in THE TORP has a direct impact on the level of foam: the beer should be served sufciently cold, when the temperature indicator is green. IMPORTANT: never store a TORP in the freezer as this could cause leakage due to freezing of the beer. INSTALLING THE TORP IN THE SUB COMPACT Remove THE TORP cover (4). The tube is housed inside the cover; remove it. Place the tube connector in the opening of THE TORP until you hear a click. THE TORP (5) is now ready to use. You can place it in THE SUB COMPACT by following these steps (6): - Open the appliance door completely (7-8). - Remove the upper part of the dispensing head (9). - Insert THE TORP into the refrigeration chamber by exerting pressure on the rear part in order to insert the front part. Thread the tap tube and insert the pouring end of the tube in the service tap (10). - Replace the upper part of the dispensing head (11). - Re-close the door of THE SUB COMPACT (12). THE TORP is correctly installed, the temperature indicator is red marking the start of the cooling phase. When it is green, the beer is ready to be served (13). Upon installation of THE TORP, THE SUB COMPACT veries the pressure inside THE TORP and activates the pump each time the pressure is insufcient. IMPORTANT: do not unload a TORP until it is completely empty. A TORP that has been unloaded from THE SUB COMPACT is depressurized. Therefore, the beer quality is no longer guaranteed.

To pour the perfect beer, it is essential to use a clean cold glass. Rinse your glass in fresh, cold water before serving the beer. This prevents the liquid warming up in the glass as well as the formation of too much foam. We recommend you use the special glasses available at www.the-sub.com.

- Incline your glass at an angle of 45° with respect to the tap. - Pull the handle quickly forward as far as it will go. Then gradually straighten the glass as it lls (14-15-16). When broaching a TORP, there is more foam in the rst glass than in the following glasses. To limit the formation of foam in the rst glass, we recommend pouring 2 centimeters of foam, then clean this glass and restart pouring the beer.20 For the other glasses, hold the tap handle in forward position until the glass is lled. IMPORTANT: If you pull the handle too slowly you will generate extra foam. You can consult all the information about serving the perfect beer at www.the-sub.com.

CLEANING AFTER DAILY USE

Clean the drip tray after each use.

Note: The drip tray (I) can be washed with hot water and a mild detergent (17) and must not be washed in the dishwasher.

Warning! Never use harsh detergents, such as vinegar, acids, solvents or petrol. CLEANING DURING INSTALLATION OF A NEW TORP Clean away all traces of beer that have built up on the tap. The tap mechanism should be cleaned with a damp cloth and some mild detergent (18). Remove the empty TORP from the refrigeration chamber by pressing on the front part to remove the rear part (19).

Warning! Do not attempt to clean the mechanism with hard and/or sharp objects. Clean the cooling chamber of THE SUB COMPACT using a soft dry cloth (20).

The electronic board may be defective. Contact the KRUPS customer service. The upper part of the dispensing head does not t correctly. The upper part of the head is not correctly inserted. Remove the tube spout from THE SUB COMPACT and t it again following chapter «Installing THE TORP in THE SUB COMPACT» You can not close the door of THE SUB COMPACT. THE TORP is not inserted completely. Insert THE TORP in THE SUB COMPACT completely.21

Problem Possible causes Remedies No beer is being dispensed. THE SUB COMPACT has been switched off. Connect the appliance to the power supply. THE TORP is empty. Replace THE TORP with a new one. There is no TORP inside THE SUB COMPACT. Install a TORP inside THE SUB COMPACT. THE SUB COMPACT tap handle is not correctly installed/ positioned. Install/position the tap correctly. There is not enough pressure in THE TORP. Open the door, remove THE TORP and press THE TORP detector at the front of the refrigeration chamber. 1 If the pump is working: it means there is a problem with THE TORP. Install a new TORP in THE SUB COMPACT. 2 If the pump is not working: it may be defective. Contact the KRUPS customer service. THE SUB COMPACT is dispensing warm beer. THE SUB COMPACT is not connected to the mains power supply. Connect THE SUB COMPACT to the power supply. The door was not closed correctly. Close the door correctly. The cooling system is defective. Contact the KRUPS customer service. There is ice in the cooling chamber. The room temperature is below 12°C. Install THE SUB COMPACT in an adapted environment. THE SUB COMPACT has been working too long with no TORP inside. Remove the ice with a warm sponge and load a TORP inside the chamber. The temperature regulation may be defective. Contact the KRUPS customer service. There is too much foam. The beer is not cold enough. Wait until the temperature indicator changes to green and then serve the beer. The tap handle was pulled too slowly during the service. Pull the handle quickly forward as far as it will go.22 Problem Possible causes Remedies The indicator light doesn’t turn green after 12H of use although the cooling chamber is cold. The ambient temperature is above 28°C. The appliance must be used in a room where the temperature is between 12°C and 28°C and be placed in a surface with enough space around in order to guarantee a good air ow (cf picto2). However, if the appliance cools down normally the beer, you can use it to serve a fresh beer even if the indicator light has not turned green. 5 – DISPOSAL Let’s play our part in protecting the environment! Your appliance contains numerous materials that can be recovered or recycled. Take it to a collection point or an approved service centre for processing. - Appliances that are no longer working should be rendered unusable. - The plug should be disconnected from the socket and the power cord should be cut. - Appliances that are no longer in use should be taken to a collection centre for disposal of the special components used in the manufacture of the appliance. - The «TEM module» (or Peltier cell) must be disposed of in accordance with the standards in force in the country of use of the machine.23
