Frequently Asked Questions - LZR5 BLACK & DECKER

What is the purpose of the BLACK & DECKER LZR5?
The LZR5 is a compact laser level known as the "Laser 90." It projects two laser lines (horizontal and vertical) that are perpendicular to each other to help you install shelves, hang frames, align tiles, or perform any indoor tracing work.
What laser lines does the LZR5 project?
The LZR5 is equipped with two laser diodes that generate two lines at 90 degrees to each other: one horizontal line and one vertical line. This allows for a simultaneous perfect plumb and level.
What battery should be used with the LZR5?
The LZR5 operates with a 9 V battery of type 6LR61 (standard rectangular block battery). Remove the battery compartment cover, insert the battery respecting the indicated polarity, then close the cover before turning it on.
How to mount the LZR5 on a surface?
The device comes with two mounting cones that allow you to place or hang the laser on almost any surface, including corners and irregular surfaces. Place a cone at the base of the unit and press it against the desired surface.
Does the LZR5 level itself automatically?
Yes, the LZR5 features a self-leveling system. Place the device on an approximately horizontal surface and it will automatically compensate for small leveling discrepancies before projecting its laser lines.
The laser line is blurry or deviated, what should I do?
Ensure the device is placed on a stable surface and that self-leveling has occurred (wait a few seconds after turning it on). If the line remains blurry, clean the optical window with a soft cloth. If it remains deviated, the device may have suffered a shock and requires inspection by an authorized BLACK+DECKER technician.
The laser does not turn on, what should I check?
Start by checking the condition of the 9 V battery (6LR61): a weak or improperly inserted battery is the most common cause. Replace it with a new battery, ensuring the polarity is correct. If the problem persists after replacing the battery, the switch or internal circuit may be faulty.
Is the LZR5 suitable for outdoor use?
The LZR5 is designed for indoor domestic use only. In full sunlight, the class 2 laser beam is almost invisible. Prefer use in dimly lit rooms for better visibility of the lines.
Is the LZR5 laser dangerous for the eyes?
The LZR5 belongs to laser class 2, which means that the natural blink reflex is normally sufficient to protect the eyes in case of brief and accidental exposure. Never stare directly into the beam and do not direct it towards others' eyes.
Can I mount the LZR5 on a tripod?
The LZR5 is not mentioned as being equipped with a standard 1/4" thread in its documentation. It is designed to be used placed on a flat surface or held by the provided mounting cones. Check the manual to verify compatibility with a tripod adapter.
Where can I find spare parts or after-sales service for the LZR5?
Spare parts (type 1) are available on specialized sites like Spare Parts World or Part Shop Direct. For after-sales service in France, contact BLACK+DECKER customer service via the official website blackanddecker.fr.
Is the LZR5 still marketed?
The LZR5 is an older model that is no longer available in the current BLACK+DECKER France catalog. It is still possible to find spare parts and replacement batteries at specialized tool parts retailers.

What should I do if the laser of the BLACK & DECKER LZR5 level does not turn on?
Frequently Asked Questions - 04/04/2026
Response Notice-Facile

If the laser of your BLACK & DECKER LZR5 level does not turn on, the problem usually comes from the battery, the switch, or an obstruction of the lenses. Follow these troubleshooting steps in order:

1. Check and replace the 9V battery: Your LZR5 operates with a 9V type 6LR61 battery. Remove the battery cover (marker 3) located at the bottom of the device. Ensure that the battery is inserted correctly, with the positive terminal facing up. If the battery is more than a few months old or seems worn out, replace it immediately with a new 9V battery, as a dead battery is the most common cause of the laser not functioning.

2. Ensure the battery is properly connected: When installing, the larger terminal of the battery should match the smaller connector inside the compartment. Remove the battery, lightly clean the contacts on both sides with a dry cloth, then reinsert it firmly. Replace the cover until you hear a distinct click indicating correct engagement.

3. Test the on/off switch: The switch (marker 1) on the top of the device controls two modes. Push it up for the self-leveling mode, or down for the locked/traced mode. The laser should turn on in either mode. If the laser does not work, try toggling the switch several times, holding each position for a few seconds.

4. Clean the laser openings: The two laser outputs located at the front of the device (marker 2) may be obstructed by dust, debris, or moisture. Gently clean them with a soft, dry cloth, without applying pressure. The lenses are fragile; a dirty or damaged lens will completely prevent the laser projection.

5. Check for physical damage: Inspect the device for cracks, impacts, water, or visible damage. The LZR5 is a precision device; a shock or exposure to moisture can damage the internal laser module (class 2) or the electronic circuits.

If after all these checks the laser still does not turn on, there is likely an internal electronic problem or a defect in the laser module requiring repair. Contact an authorized BLACK & DECKER repairer directly. If your device is defective within 24 months of purchase due to a material or manufacturing issue, it will be repaired or replaced free of charge under the Black & Decker warranty, subject to proof of purchase.
