Always follow the Instructions for Use

Please read the instructions carefully before using the toast oven, and keep them in a safe place. If the oven is handed over to a third party, these instructions should accompany it.

Failure to comply with the instructions could result in serious personal injury or damage to the oven.

Important safety information beyond the contents of Chapter 1 is prominently marked, as below, and should be followed at all times in order to prevent accidents and damage to the oven:

HINT

Presents hints and other useful information.

Fire danger

Food, and specifically the fat it contains, may catch fire. There is, as a matter of principle, always a risk of fire while the appliance is switched on:

  • Ensure that the appliance is not positioned or operated near infl ammable materials (eg curtains, drapes).
  • Do not place the oven on any easily combustible surface (eg paper towels). It must only be operated on heat-resistant surfaces.
  • The oven must not be installed or operated inside a cupboard.
  • Do not operate the oven on hot surfaces or near any heat sources (eg hot-plates, gas fl ames).
  • Do not position any objects on top of the oven.
  • Do not leave the oven unattended while it is in use.
  • Do not allow the power cord to touch any hot parts of the appliance.

Overheated oil or fat may ignite. Do not allow any oil or fat dripping down onto the hot heating elements (eg if the baking tray is too full).
- Never store any inflammable objects inside the toast oven.
- Do not attempt to prepare any food containing 100% proof alcohol in the oven. Alcohol vapours are likely to ignite in the oven interior.
- Never operate the oven without the crumb tray installed.
- Never attempt to cook food on the crumb tray.
- Should a fire nevertheless occur, extinguish it by smothering the fl ames. Disconnect the appliance from the mains. Caution: Do not use water under any circumstances.

Danger to certain categories of persons

There is an increased risk of injury for certain categories of persons:

  • The oven may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given instruction or are supervised in using the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.
Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.
  • Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance.
  • The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.
  • Caution: Keep any packaging material well away from children - it is a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

  • Persons with sensitivity disorders, especially those with reduced sensitivity to differences in temperature, must defi nitely exercise increased caution when using the appliance.

Proper use

The oven must only be used for cooking, heating or re-heating food. Only the original accessory parts (baking tray, baking rack, rotary spit, pizza stone) may be fitted inside the appliance.

The oven is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as

  • by staff members in shops, offices and other similar working environments,
  • by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar establishments,
  • in agricultural working environments,
  • in bed-and breakfast type environments.

Any other use must be considered improper and may lead to personal injuries or material damage.

Improper use

  • Do not use the oven to cook food which is likely to touch the heating elements or the inside of the oven.
  • The oven is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.
  • The oven is not intended for drying clothing or any other type of object or utensil.
  • The oven must only be operated with the crumb tray properly installed below the heating elements.
  • Do not use the oven to heat up food still sealed in tins.
  • When processing food that is likely to expand (eg yeast dough), ensure suffi cient distance from the heating elements (see also Chapter 4 'Setting up the oven').
  • The appliance must not be used as an electric heater.

Electricity

The oven is powered by electricity, and there is always a risk of an electric shock. The following precautions are therefore to be taken:

  • The oven must only be connected to an earthed safety socket installed in accordance with the regulations (minimum fuse protection 10 A).
  • The oven must only be connected to the mains if the voltage marked on the rating label corresponds to the supply voltage.
  • Do not kink or pinch the power cord. Keep both the cord and the oven itself well away from heat sources (eg hot-plates, gas flames).
  • When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself. Do not carry the oven by its power cord.
  • Do not immerse the oven in water or any other liquid, do not clean it under running water and do not put it in a dishwasher. The baking tray, baking rack, rotary spit and the handles, however, are dishwasher-safe once detached.

  • Do not use a steam cleaner for cleaning the oven.

  • Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
  • Do not operate the oven outdoors.
  • Do not use any metallic objects when trying to remove food from inside the oven. Always disconnect the unit from the mains first, and then use a blunt, wooden tool.
  • As long as it is connected to the mains, a current is present inside the oven, even if it is switched off.
  • Always remove the plug from the wall socket after use.
  • In the case of an emergency or malfunction, disconnect the appliance from the mains immediately. Ensure, therefore, that the plug the oven is connected to is accessible and can be removed from the wall socket at any time.
Always remove the plug from the wall socket before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried out.

  • Do not attempt to open or dismantle the oven, and do not attempt to make any technical modification.

Hot surfaces and hot fat

With the oven switched on, and also after use, the temperature of accessible surfaces can be extremely high. There is also a danger of burns from hot food:

  • Do not touch the hot interior surfaces or the heating elements under any circumstances.
  • Never put your hand inside the oven when it is switched on. Always use the handles provided for the baking tray, rack and rotary spit to take out the food. If necessary, use oven gloves.
  • Never touch the exterior surfaces of the oven when it is in use.
  • With the oven switched on, only touch the door handle or the control panel.
  • Be careful when opening the door as hot steam may escape.
  • Caution: Never pour water or any other type of liquid into the hot interior, as this will result in hot water vapour forming.
  • Do not carry or move the oven during use.

  • Do not touch any metal surfaces or the heating elements immediately after use.
After use, wait at least 30 minutes before removing the crumb tray. Caution: Fat remains hot for a very long time, and should not really be handled at any time until it has cooled down.

Lack of hygiene

Lack of hygiene may result in germs forming inside the oven:

  • The crumb tray should be regularly emptied and cleaned.
  • Do not leave any food in the oven when the appliance is not in use.

The use of wrong cleaning agents poses health risks:

  • Only food-grade cleaning agents should be used for cleaning individual components that come into contact with food.

Dangers to the toast oven

Incorrect handling of the oven can cause damage:

Always place the unit on a dry, level, non-slip and heat-resistant surface.
- Do not position the oven on a hot surface or near any strong source of heat.
- Do not let the power cord hang free, or over the edge of a table.
- Do not use any cleaning agents or tools, other than those specified in these instructions, to clean the oven.
- Before the appliance is stored away, remove the plug from the socket and allow the oven to cool down completely.

In case of a defective oven

A defective oven can cause material damage and injury:

  • Check the oven for damage each time before use. If you notice any kind of transport damage, please contact the retail dealer where the unit was purchased.
  • Never operate a defective oven. Do not operate any oven after it has been dropped.
  • If the power cord of the oven shows any sign of damage, it must be replaced by the manufacturers, their customer service or another properly qualified person in order to avoid any danger.
  • The oven does not contain any components that you can service or repair yourself. Repairs must only carried out by SEVERIN Service.
