1. Getting to know your device
Dear customer,
Thank you for choosing one of our products. Our name stands for high-quality, thoroughly tested products for applications in the areas of heat, weight, blood pressure, body temperature, pulse, gentle therapy, massage and air.
With kind regards,
Your Beurer team
Why Day & Night?
The Beurer TL 55 "Day&Night" brightlight has a brightlight to start the day full of energy, and a red light which dims in order to help you fall asleep and sleep through more easily in the evening. This double function means that the device actively supports your natural biorhythm and ensures the gentle regulation between day and night.
Why use a brightlight?
When the hours of daylight are noticeably decreased in autumn and people increasingly stay inside, the effects of a lack of light may cumulate. This is often described as "winter depression". The symptoms can present themselves in a number of ways:
- Imbalance • Need for more sleep
- Subdued mood • Loss of appetite
- Lack of energy and listlessness • Difficulty concentrating
- Generally feeling under the weather
The cause of these symptoms is the fact that light, particularly sunlight, is essential for life and has a direct effect upon the human body. Sunlight indirectly controls the production of melatonin, which is only passed to the blood in darkness. This hormone shows your body that it's time to sleep. Therefore in months with less sunshine more melatonin is produced, meaning that it is harder to get up. Your body's functions have powered down. Melatonin production can be stopped if the brightlight is used as soon as you wake up in the morning, so as early as possible; as a result, there is a positive uplift in your mood.
Lack of light also prevents the production of the happy hormone serotonin, which is said to significantly influence our well-being. The application of light yields qualitative changes to hormones and neurotransmitters in the brain that have an effect on our activity levels, our feelings and our well-being. To compensate for such a hormonal imbalance, the brightlight creates a suitable replacement for natural sunlight.
In the medical field, brightlights are used for compensation of the effects of a lack of light. Brightlights simulate daylight over 10,000 lux. The light can influence the human body and be used as a treatment or as a preventative measure. Normal electric light, however, is not sufficient to influence hormonal balance. Because in a well-lit office the illuminance level amounts to just 500 lux.
Why does red light help you sleep?
A restorative night's sleep is of huge importance for our physical and psychological well-being; after all, it is during sleep that we process things such as new experiences and improve our mental and physical fitness. In line with this, healthy, restorative sleep is particularly important; many people have problems getting to sleep or sleeping through, however.
To make falling asleep and sleeping through easier, in addition to the brightlight function, the TL 55 also has a red light which simulates the evening sun. Due to the integrated 30-minute timer, the red light gradually becomes weaker, recreating a natural sunset. The wavelengths of the visible red light act on the retina and nervous system and in so doing calm the body and mind.
Relaxation and recuperation are promoted in this manner, which can help you to fall asleep and sleep through.
Battery
The daylight lamp is operated with the integrated battery. The brightlight is perfect to take on your travels as the integrated chargeable battery conveniently allows you to take it everywhere.

5. Initial use
Take the device out of the plastic wrapping. Check the device for damage or faults. If you notice any damage or faults on the device, do not use it and contact Customer Services or your supplier.
Positioning the device
Place the device on an even surface. The position should be chosen to ensure a distance of around 10 cm to 50 cm between the user and the device.
Battery use / Charging the battery
In order to use the brightlight with the integrated battery, you must first of all charge it.
- To prevent possible damage to the brightlight, it must only be charged with the mains part included in delivery. The mains part must only be connected to the mains voltage that is specified on the type plate.
-
Insert the mains part into the mains part connection on the rear of the brightlight.
-
Plug the other end of the mains part into a suitable socket. Fully charge the battery prior to initial use (approx. 2 hours). During charging, the "CHG" display on the brightlight lights up green. When the battery is fully charged, the "CHG" display goes out.
- If you would like to use the brightlight after charging, first of all disconnect the mains part from the socket, and then from the brightlight.
- With the battery completely charged, you can operate the brightlight for over 2 x 30 minutes.
iNote:
- Ensure that there is a mains socket close to the set-up area.
-
Arrange the mains cable so that no-one will trip over it.
-
Operation
| 1 | Remove the stand from the storage slot on the rear of the device. |
| 2 | Clip the short end of the stand into the side. The orientation of the TL55 changes depending on where you attach the stand to the device. The stand can be attached on both the long and short sides, which enables you to use the TL55 both horizontally and vertically. |
| 3 Switching on the lamp► To switch on the red light (light to fall asleep), press the ON/OFF button once.► Press the ON/OFF button twice to switch on the brightlight.Note:The brightlight has an automatic switch-off function. The brightlight/red light switches off automatically after 30 minutes. During the 30 minutes, the red light automatically dims. In contrast, the brightlight illuminates to the same level of brightness for the 30 minutes. | |
| 4 Enjoying daylightPosition yourself as close as possible to the light, at a distance of between 10 and 30 cm. You can continue to go about your day-to-day activities during application, including reading, writing, making telephone calls, etc.Keep looking directly into the light for a short period of time as it is absorbed and shows an effect via the eyes/retina. Do not look directly into the light continuously as this may cause over-stimulation of the retina.Use the brightlight as often as you like. However, the treatment is at its most effective if you carry out the light therapy according to the prescribed time period of at least 7 successive days. The most effective time of day for the treatment is in the morning and we recommend that it is used for 2 hours per day.Start with a brief application period and gradually increase the time over the course of a week.In principle, the closer you are to the light source, the shorter the application time.Note:You may experience pain in the eyes and head after the first few applications. This pain should disappear in further sessions as the nervous system becomes accustomed to the new stimuli.Enjoying the red lightPlace the lamp at a distance of between 30 and 50 cm to where you sleep. Try to relax and drift off during usage. The most effective time of day for treatment is in the evening before going to bed.Treatment with the red light is most effective if you carry it out at least 7 days in a row.Keep looking directly into the red light for a short period of time as it is absorbed and shows an effect via the eyes/retina. Do not look directly into the red light continuously as this may cause over-stimulation of the retina.Press the ON/OFF button once. The red light and the LED display (10 , 20 , 30 min) begin to light up. The LED display shows you how long the red light will still illuminate for. The red light has 3 brightness levels and becomes weaker in 10-minute cycles. The red light automatically goes out after 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can switch off the red light at any time by pressing and holding the ON/OFF button. | |
| 5 Enjoying the brightlight/red light over a longer periodRepeat the brightlight/red light application on at least 7 consecutive days or for longer depending on your individual needs. You should preferably use the brightlight in the morning, and the red light in the evenings in bed. | |
| 6 Switching off the light▸ Press and hold the ON/OFF button for around three seconds. The brightlight switches itself off.▸ Pull the mains plug out of the socket when the battery has been fully charged via the mains part.IMPORTANT!The light remains hot after use. Allow the light to cool down sufficiently before putting it away and/or packing it away. | |
