What you need
To make yoghurt you will need the specified amount of milk and, to start the fermentation process, natural fresh yoghurt (without sugar, fruit or fruit juice).
- Dry culture can be used instead of fresh yoghurt. Simply follow the instructions on the packet.
Generally, any sort of milk can be used. Sterilised or U. H. T. milk will give the best results. Any other sort of milk should be heated up to 90^ for a short time before use. Allow the milk to cool down to approx. 40^ afterwards.
Preparing the glass jars
- Ensure the glass jars are clean and dry.
- Add 1 to 2 teaspoonful of natural yoghurt (without sugar or fruit juice) into the glass jars.
Dry culture can be used instead of natural yoghurt. - Divide the yoghurt powder into the jars, following the manufacturer's instructions. The maximum amount per jar is about 160ml .
- Briefly heat up the milk to 90^ and then allow it to cool to approx. 40^ .
U. H. T. milk does not need to be heated to a high temperature. - Divide the milk equally into the glass jars and mix the contents gently but thoroughly.
- With warm milk, it will take 5 to 6 hours to make yoghurt.
- If cold milk is used, it will take 9 to 10 hours to make yoghurt.
Operation
- Set up the yoghurt maker in a room at normal room temperature.
Now place the lids on the jars and arrange the jars in the yoghurt maker. Cover the yoghurt maker with the top lid. - Connect the appliance to the mains.
- A beep signal is heard. The display briefly lights up blue, showing '---'.
Now press the timer button. The display briefly lights up blue and the hour indicator starts fl ashing. Use the +/- buttons to set the number of hours required. - Press the timer button again. Use the +/- buttons to set the minutes (if necessary).
- Press the Start/Stop button. The appliance switches on and the remaining
running time is shown in the display.
The yoghurt maker should now be left undisturbed until the yoghurt has set. Avoid draught and shocks.
Once the pre-set processing time has elapsed, five beep signals are heard and the display shows - - - ^
- Remove the plug from the wall socket, transfer the warm jars to the refrigerator and allow the yoghurt to develop further for a few hours.
If you wish to make fruit yoghurt, add the fruit to the warm yoghurt before you transfer the jars to the refrigerator to cool.
- Once you have made your first batch of yoghurt, reserve the required amount of the yoghurt for your next batch.
- Remark: After several cycles the yoghurt may become watery, and it is then time to restart the process with fresh natural yoghurt or fresh yoghurt powder.
- To interrupt the process before the pre-set time has expired, use the + / - buttons to set the timer back to '0' and then remove the plug from the wall socket.
Interruption to the power supply
If the power supply is interrupted for any reason, the pre-set processing time will remain in store for 10 minutes.
Should the power cut last longer than hat, the appliance will need to be re-started.
