LOADING

Prophete 2960 - LOADING - 1

  • Do not exceed the loading capacity stated in the chapter Technical data. Danger of damage and accident!

Prophete 2960 - LOADING - 2

  • Ensure the lowest centre of gravity as possible while loading the trailer. Distribute the load evenly, heavy goods should be placed in front of the axle of the trailer, if possible, to ensure that the driving behaviour (specifically in curves) is not impaired more than necessary. Risk of accident!
  • Make certain that you do not create a negative drawbar load. This can considerably deteriorate the braking action. Danger of falling, damage and accident!
  • Secure your goods to be conveyed to prevent the load from shifting. Refrain from using loose straps as the ends can get caught in the spokes. Danger of damage and accident!
  • Depending on the load, the tyres must always have sufficient pressure! Insufficient tyre pressure can have a negative impact on the driving behaviour, especially in curves. Also, the tyres could bottom out and damage the rims. Furthermore, the tyres will wear out much faster. Risk of accident!

DRAWBAR LOAD (TRAILER LOAD)

The vertical load must always correspond to those indicated in chapter -Technical data- maximum and minimum values.

Check the drawbar load as follows before hitching the loaded trailer.

  1. Hold the tow bar at the height of the mounted hitch.
  2. Measure the vertical load with a spring balance.
  3. If necessary correct the drawbar load by rearranging the load.

INITIAL OPERATION /

CHECKS FOR OPERATING SAFETY FUNCTION

Prophete 2960 - CHECKS FOR OPERATING SAFETY FUNCTION - 1
DANGER

  • Before each trip, check if your pulling bicycle is operationally safe and in a sound technical condition. Risk of accident!
  • Before each trip, carry out the checks described below and any necessary adjustment work. In case of disregard the product can be damaged or important components can fail! Danger of damage and accident!

Prophete 2960 - CHECKS FOR OPERATING SAFETY FUNCTION - 2
WARNING

Before initial operation, and for any trip, it is necessary to conscientiously carry out the following steps or checks:

  • Check the seat of the towing hitch.
  • Check whether the safety strap is hooked around the seat post.
  • Check the tow bar for clearance.

  • Check the wheels/tyres for condition, attachment and tyre pressure.

  • Check all parts of the bicycle trailer and the tow bar for tight screw connections.

  • Ensure the pulling bicycle has a secure stand.
  • Make certain that the bicycle trailer has been loaded correctly.
  • Check/practise riding and steering behaviour.
  • Check the braking performance and readjust the brake as necessary.

MAINTENANCE/CARE

Prophete 2960 - MAINTENANCE/CARE - 1

Prophete 2960 - MAINTENANCE/CARE - 2

  • The screws and nuts installed in the trailer and at the hitch must be checked at regular intervals (at least every 3 months) for tight fit and should be retightened with the correct strength, as necessary. This is the only way to permanently guarantee that the trailer will comply with the safety-relevant requirements and continue to function correctly.
  • Screws and nuts that have been tightened too much can break. Risk of accident!
  • For cleaning, never use a high-pressure cleaner or steam cleaner as this can cause damage (e.g. damage to varnish, damage caused through rust development in the bearings, etc.). Instead, clean the trailer by hand with warm water, a bicycle detergent and a soft cloth.
  • Refrain from using aggressive cleaning agents since they could corrode the varnish, for example. After cleaning, apply commercially available bicycle preservative and polishing agents, specifically to components at risk of corrosion.
  • To prevent rust development in areas with salty air (proximity to coast), the trailer should be serviced at shorter intervals and must be treated with preservative products.
  • The tyre pressure must be checked regularly (at least every 3 months) and adjusted as necessary. Maintain the minimum or maximum pressure as specified on the tyres. The maximum pressure may never be exceeded as the hose would otherwise burst. Danger of damage and accident!
  • Only carry out repairs, maintenance and adjustment work yourself if you possess the necessary technical expertise and the appropriate tools. Incorrect or inadequate repair, maintenance and adjustment work can lead to damage to the product and result in malfunctions and accidents.
  • During its use, the trailer or its individual components are partially subject to high stress due to accidents or incorrect handling. Any manner of tears, scratches or colour changes could indicate a sudden failure of the affected component. This especially applies to concealed or damaged safety-relevant components such as base frame, tow bar, wheels, tyres and hoses. Never repair these defective components but replace them immediately with original spare parts. Danger of breakage and accident!
  • When exchanging components use only original spare parts, because only these have been coordinated specifically to the product and can guarantee proper function. This particularly applies to safety-relevant components, such as: base frame, tow bar, wheels, tyres and hoses. If you use third-party components as replacement, then these could cause damage and lead to the failure of safety-relevant components. Risk of accident!

GENERAL CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Clean the bicycle trailer at regular intervals (at least once a year) to prevent damage and surface rust. Particularly after driving in the rain or through snow, splashed water or salty water can cause rust to develop.

STORING THE BICYCLE TRAILER

If the bicycle trailer will not be used for a longer period of time, store it in a dry room without great temperature fluctuations, as this could otherwise have a negative impact on the chrome-plated and metal parts. Also ensure that it is protected from external influences. The jacked-up storage of the bicycle trailer is recommended with regard to the tyres.

Clean and preserve the bicycle trailer before storage as described in the chapter Maintenance/care.

SPRING CHECK

After a longer immobilisation time, carry out the points described in the chapter - Initial Operation/checks before beginning trips-. Specifically, check the tyre pressure as well as the tight fit of all screws and nuts.
