• Before connecting the device to your power supply, please ensure that the supply voltage stated on the rating plate is compatible with your mains supply.
• Only use this unit according to the intended purpose and as directed in the instructions for use. The device is not intended for commercial use.
• Never use the unit outdoors.
• Do not sit or stand on the unit; it is not designed to support your full body weight.
• Never cover up the ventilation holes on the bottom of the device.
• Do not put any foreign objects into any of the openings. Avoid contact with pointed or sharp objects. The warranty is null and void if it is not used for the intended purpose.
• This device is not designed to be used by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental abilities, or by persons with insufficient experience and/or knowledge, unless under observation by a person responsible for their safety, or unless instructed in the use of the device.
  Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device.
• Do not attempt to repair the unit yourself in the event of any defects. Not only does this render the warranty null and void but you can also run the risk of serious hazards (fire, electric shock, injury). Only have repairs carried out by authorised service points.
• Do not reach for the unit if it has fallen into water. First pull out the mains plug at once.
• Do not use any electrical equipment while in the bath or shower. Do not store or keep any electrical equipment in places where it could fall into the bathtub or washbasin.
• Do not use the unit under the bedclothes or under cushions.
• Keep the mains cable away from hot surfaces.
• Never use the unit in rooms in which aerosols (sprays) are being used or where pure oxygen is being administered.
• Never use the unit if the power cable has been damaged, the mains adapter is defective, if the unit does not work perfectly, if it has fallen into water or has been damaged.
• Never carry, pull or rotate the unit by the mains cable and never pinch the cable between other objects.
• Do not allow the unit to become overheated due to excessively long use.
• Only pull the plug out of the socket when you have dry hands.
• If you are pregnant, suffer from diabetes or have a pacemaker, contact your doctor before using the unit.
• You should also contact your doctor before initial use of the unit, should you have any reservations about your personal tolerance to treatment or have any health-related questions.
• Do not use the unit on any parts of the body that are swollen, injured or inflamed.
• If you experience pains in the muscles and joints that persist after a long period of time, please inform your doctor. Persistent pains can be symptomatic of serious illness.

• We would advise patients suffering from varicose veins against using the unit.

• Should you experience pain or discomfort during treatment, stop treatment immediately.

• If you experience unexplained pain or swelling in the legs or feet, or suffer from a muscle injury, you should consult your doctor before using the unit. Stop the massage if you experience pain during or swelling after treatment.

NOTE

Every individual reacts differently to a massage. Depending on the individual, some prefer a gentle massage, some find a more intensive massage more pleasant, with or without heat. After trying out the MEDISANA FRI massager a few times, you will soon find the ideal setting that achieves the desired relaxation for you.

To derive the most success and to enjoy your MEDISANA FRI for a very long time, we recommend that you read the following information on the use and care of the device carefully.

2.1 Items supplied and packaging

Please check first of all that the unit is complete and is not damaged in any way. If in doubt, do not use the appliance. Send it to a service point.

The following parts are included as standard:

The packaging can be reused or recycled. Please dispose properly of any packaging material no longer required.

If you notice any transport damage during unpacking, please contact your dealer without delay.

WARNING

Please ensure that polybag packing is kept away from reach of children! Risk of suffocation!

2.2 The MEDISANA FRI Massager: a wide range of applications

Our feet and back are under great strain each and every day, making them especially vulnerable to tenseness, muscle pains and hardened muscles. The MEDISANA FRI massager lets you give your feet and back a treat, helping them to relax after a long day.

The massager offers you a range of options for achieving this:

• Upper and lower back massage
• Foot massage
• Reflex zone massage of the feet

Each massage can be combined with heat treatment. The unit also allows you to gently heat the vibro-node surfaces and activate the infra-red light at the same time.

This promotes relaxation and has a soothing effect on the muscles.

The unit is also equipped with acupressure massage nodes for a soothing reflex zone massage. This type of massage is based on the knowledge that each organ and part of the body can be has its own specific reflex zone on the soles of the feet. When these zones on the soles of the feet are stimulated, nerve impulses are transmitted to the brain and relayed from there to the organs or other parts of the body. The reflex zones can be used to stimulate or soothe individual organs, stimulate the circulation and relieve pains.

3 Operating

3.1 Foot massage and reflex zone massage

Foot massage

Place the MEDISANA FRI massager on the floor in front of a comfortable chair and plug it into the mains outlet. Sit down in a comfortable position and rest your feet on the unit.

You can adjust the angle of the unit to your own particular requirements by turning the two adjustable feet on the underside of the unit.

Pressing the massage button 1 once activates the vibro-node massage surface 3 and the acupressure nodes 4 at level 1. The LED next to "LO" lights up, indicating that low level vibration is active. A further press of the massage button 1 switches to level 2 vibration, and the LED indicator changes from "LO" to "HI". Pressing the massage button 1 one more time switches of the vibration.

You may heat the massage surface by pressing the heat function button 2. The heat function my be activated on its own or in combination with vibration. The LED next to the heat function button 2 indicates that the heat function is active. You may switch off the heat by pressing the heat function button 2 one more time.

Switch off both functions (vibration and heat) before removing the plug from the mains outlet.

Reflexzone massage

The acupressure nodes are ideal for targeting tenseness in specific areas of the body or just generally improving your feeling of well being. Use the following reflex zone map as a guide.

Concentrate your massage on those areas of the soles of the feet that correspond to the part of the body you wish to treat. Stimulate the required area for three to five minutes.

Back massage

Upper back massage

• Turn the adjustable feet anticlockwise until you can feel resistance. You can now hang the unit over the back of a chair. A chair with a high back, such as an office chair, is best suited to this purpose.

• Plug the unit into the mains, making sure that the lead is not stretched. The control buttons 1 and 2 are operated in the same way as described in the instructions for foot massage.

• You can use this method primarily for treating hardened muscles and soothing tenseness in the neck and upper back region.

• Once you have completed the massage/heat treatment, keep pressing buttons 1 and 2 until all the LEDs go out and the massager is switched off. Only then should you unplug the unit from the mains outlet.

Lower back massage

• Place the massager vertically on the seat of a chair, with the mains connector 6 facing upwards, such that the unit is leaning against and supported by the back of the chair. Plug the unit into the mains, making sure that the lead is not stretched.
• The control buttons are operated in the same way as with a foot massage.
• Sit down in the chair, resting your back against the unit for treating tense ness and hardened muscles in the lower back region.
• Make sure all functions are switched off before unplugging the unit from the mains.

3.3 Duration of treatment

In general, you can allow approximately 10 to 15 minutes per massage session, one to two times a day.

However, you should make sure you allow the unit to cool down completely after each use before using it again!

4.1 Cleaning and maintenance

• Before cleaning the unit, make sure it is switched off and disconnected from the mains. Clean the unit once it has cooled down using a soft, damp cloth.
• Do not use any strong detergents for cleaning, e.g. scouring cream or other cleansing agents, as they may damage the surface of the unit.
• Store the unit in a cool, dry place.
  Take care when rolling up the mains lead to avoid damaging it.

4.2 Disposal

This product must not be disposed together with the domestic waste.

All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commercial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

Consult your municipal authority or your dealer for information about disposal.

5.1 Warranty and repair terms

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.
2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge within the warranty period.
3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the unit or for the replacement parts.
4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. non-observation of the user instructions.
b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer or unauthorised third parties.
c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer to the consumer or during transport to the service centre.
d. Accessories which are subject to normal wear and tear.

1. Liability for direct or indirect consequential losses caused by the unit are excluded even if the damage to the unit is accepted as a warranty claim.
