Measured values determined according to EN 50 144. Typically the A-weighted sound pressure level of the tool is 82 dB(A). The noise level when working can exceed 85 dB(A). Wear ear protection! The typical weighted acceleration is 3 m/s
Noise/vibration information The tool can only be used safely after the operating instructions have been read and fully complied with. It is recommended to receive practical instruction before using the machine for the first time. Before each use: Inspect unit, extension cord and plug for damage. Always seek professional assistance for replacement of any damaged components. Do not use this power tool in the rain. Do not trim hedges when they are wet. Other persons and animals should remain at a distance of 3 meters or more when the machine is being used. Never grasp the blade rail of the trimmer. Wear work gloves, eye protection, solid shoes and long pants when using the machine. Always grasp both handles when operating the machine. Always ensure that you have a secure footing. Always remove the plug from the power supply socket before carrying out any work on the machine, when interrupting work and when not using the machine. Use only moisture-protected extension cords approved for outdoor use. Secure extension cord by hanging it in tension relief bracket
Always route extension cord out toward the rear. Do not use the extension cord to carry the unit. The power tool should not be operated by persons under 16 years of age. Portable units being used outdoors must be connected via fault-current protection switches. Use only original parts and accessories. Cut length 360 mm 450 mm Blade spacing 19 mm 19 mm Weight 3.1 kg 3.2 kg Safety class9 Switching ON/OFF The slider switches make it possible to work from various postures, thus providing for more relaxed operation. The hedge trimmer can be operated with ease by persons wearing work gloves, and also poses no problems for left-handed individuals. Switching ON Press down on the slider switches in the grip 4 and loop handle 3 and maintain them in the depressed position. No provision is made for locking the switches into position for continuous operation due to safety considerations. Switching OFF Release one or both slider switches. The machine comes to a complete stop in approximately 0.5 seconds. Safety blade rail with contact protection ■ Never touch the blade rail. The lower blade teeth 12 are dull at the tip, and 8 mm longer than the upper teeth. This design reduces the risk of injury. The guide rail 13 protrudes slightly at the tip. This prevents unpleasant kickback upon contact with hard objects, such as fence posts or house walls. Sliding clutch The sliding clutch protects the motor from being damaged should the blade lock against a solid object. Should the machine lock up, switch it off immediately and remove the plug from the electrical outlet before removing the object from the blade. ■ Remove plug from electrical outlet immediately if the extension cord is damaged. ■ Do not reuse a damaged extension cord. ■ The voltage of the supply source must correspond to that indicated on the unit's data plate. Units for which 230 V is specified are suitable for use with 220 V outlets. ■ Use only moisture-protected extension cords approved for outdoor use. ■ Do not use his power tool in the rain. Do not trim hedges when they are wet. Fitting the protective shield Insert the two noses 7 of protection shield 2 into the housing and press nose 8 firmly until it latches. Protective shield can and may no longer be detached! Fitting the strap-shaped-handle Extend the strap-shaped handle 3. Do not press shifting bar 9, in order to avoid damaging contact pin 10 when fitting. Insert both sides of strap-shaped handle into the lateral handle sockets. Take care that the two red points 11 coincide. Contact pin 10 must be located in handle socket 6. Swivel strap-shaped handle until it locks into position, then screw down on both sides. Connecting Plug electrical cord into the unit and secure plug connection with strain-relief bracket 5. Cable routing Be sure to route the cord away from the work area to prevent it from coming near the blade. Decide how you want to route the cord before starting work. Start trimming at the point nearest the electrical outlet, and then move away while working. The cable will then be pulled through the zone which has already been cut, and thus remain out of danger. Use bright-colored extension cords for reasons of visibility. Initial operation/Notes on operation10 ■ Always disconnect the plug from the power socket before carrying out any work on the appliance. ■ Never use water to clean or spray off the unit. ■ Store the unit in a dry place. Inspect your hedge trimmer before each use. It is essential that any damage to the blade rail be professionally repaired before the unit is used. Only use extension cords in good condition to connect your hedge trimmer. The blade rail should be cleaned and treated with maintenance spray (accessories) after each use. When a job lasts for a longer period of time, we recommend that the blade rail also be treated with maintenance spray at regular intervals during operation. We recommend the storage sheath (accessories) for storage and transport. The storage sheath can be secured to the wall with two screws. Always keep the ventilation slots unobstructed and clean. If the machine should happen to fail despite the care taken in manufacture and testing, repair should be carried out by an authorised customer services agent for BOSCH power tools. For all correspondence and spare parts orders, always include the 10 digit order number of the machine! WARNING Important instructions for connecting a new 3-pin plug to the 2 wire cable. The wires in the cable are coloured according to the following code: Do not connect the blue or brown wire to the earth termi- nal of the plug. Important: If for any reason the plug is cut off of the cable of this machine, it must be disposed of safely and not left unattended. Care and Maintenance ■ Assume a secure posture and always use both hands to hold the unit at the handles. No animals or other persons are to be in the work area. ■ Always route the extension cord away to the rear. Shaping The hedge should be trimmed to achieve a trapezoidal form, that is, it should widen toward the bottom on both sides. This improves the penetration of light to the lower extremities. A general guideline is: Approx. 10 cm slant for each 1 meter of bush height. The top of the shrub can also be given a rounded or column-shape. Cutting sequence First cut both sides, starting at the bottom and working to the top; this prevents cuttings from falling into the area where you are still working. Then trim the top: Where the branches have grown extremely long, cut back the hedge in several stages. Benefit: Short cuttings are better suited for composting. Optimum trimming times Hedges with green leaves are best trimmed in June and October, evergreens in April and August, while conifers and other fast- growing shrubs should be trimmed about every six weeks from May onward. Trimming hedges General information When older hedges are to be cut back a substantial amount, use pruning shears to trim thicker branches to the desired length before starting work with the hedge trimmer. To shape precisely, run a taught line between the extreme edges of the hedge and then trim along it. Ensure that the blade does not come into contact with any objects made of hard material that could damage it, such as fencing wire or metallic plant supports. strain relief live = brown neutral = blue To be fitted by qualified professional only11 Environmental protection Specifications subject to alteration without notice Recycling raw materials instead of waste disposal These instructions are printed on recycling paper manufactured without chlorine. Machine, accessories and packaging should be sorted for environment-friendly recycling. The plastic components are labelled for categorized recycling. Please observe the usual periods of rest Consult the relevant publications in your community. Compost organic waste. Look out for your small neighbors If your garden is laid out and cared for in a natural way, then it will also be home to a number of small creatures, such as birds and frogs. When birds nest in your hedge, you should postpone trimming for a while or trim around the part of the hedge where the nest is. Service Great Britain Robert Bosch Ltd. (B.S.C.) P.O.
