Specific safety instructions

For use of this machine/tool:

  • Inspect the surface to be drilled for hidden electrical wiring, gas pipes or other obstacles (for example, using a metal detector).
    • Check the following points:

  • Does the appliance's voltage correspond with the mains power supply voltage?
    • Are power cords, insulation and plug in good order: sound, not loose or damaged?
    • Is there a good, firm connection at the mains socket?

  • Does the drill show any sign of abnormal running, overheating or excessive sparking?
  • Whenever any of the problems mentioned above appear, immediately cease using the machine and have it repaired by an expert.

- Wear ear protectors. Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.

Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and give the operator an electric shock.

Electrical safety

When using electric machines always observe the safety regulations applicable in your country to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury. Read the following safety instructions and also the enclosed safety instructions.

Ferm CDM1094 - Electrical safety - 1

Always check that the mains voltage is the same as on the type plate of the machine

Ferm CDM1094 - Electrical safety - 2

Class II machine – Double insulation – You don't need any earthed plug

Replacement of power cords or plugs

Immediately dispose of old cords and plugs once they have been replaced.

It is dangerous to plug a loose power cord into a mains power socket.

Use of extension leads

Only ever use approved extension leads that are suitable for the power rating of the machine. The mini mum core thickness is 1.5 mm ^2 . Whenever using a reel extension lead, always fully unroll the lead.

3. OPERATING

Ferm CDM1094 - OPERATING - 1

Hammer drills require very little operator pressure. Excessive pressure on the tool can lead to unnecessary overheating of the motor, and burning of the driven tool

Exchanging and removing drill bits Fig. A

Ferm CDM1094 - Exchanging and removing drill bits Fig. A - 1

Inspect bits regularly during use. Blunt bits should be re-sharpened or replaced

  • Lightly oil the bit shaft before inserting it into the chuck.
  • Slide the locking sleeve (2) to the rear, and insert the bit into the chuck opening. Ensure that the keyway in the bit is seated properly in the chuck, by carefully turning the bit until it clicks into place. Release the locking sleeve.

• To remove the bit, slide and hold the locking sleeve to the rear.

Mode selection lever

Fig.B

  • Set the mode selection lever to the hammer position for hammer drilling in concrete and stone. Do not use this selection for any other applications.
  • Set the mode selection lever to the drilling without impact position for drilling in wood, metal, ceramic and plastic. This setting is also used for screwdriving.

The On/Off switch

Fig. A

- Switch the machine on by pressing the triggerswitch (2). When you release the triggerswitch (2) the machine will turn off.

Switching the direction of rotation

  • Direction of rotation counter-clockwise: shift switch to “▶”.
  • Direction of rotation clockwise: shift switch to “◀”.

Chuck

A chuck with SDS-10 shaft is shipped with the product. Please note that the machine is particularly suited for hammer drilling, the chuck should only be used for occasional simple drill work.

  • To open the keyless drill chuck, rotate the chuck body in a clockwise direction until the jaws open wide enough to accept the bit.
  • Insert the bit, over the full length of the jaws, into the chuck.
  • Tighten the chuck jaws onto the bit by turning the chuck body in a counter clockwise direction.

Ferm CDM1094 - Chuck - 1

The bit must be properly inserted with all three of the chuck jaws holding the bit centred in the chuck. Make sure the chuck jaws grasp the flat sides of a screwdriver bit. Failure to do so could cause the bit to be thrown from the chuck, resulting in possible serious injury or damage to the chuck

To remove a bit, open the keyless drill chuck by rotating the chuck body in a clockwise direction until the chuck jaws open and remove the bit.

The adapter can only be used for drilling/ screwdriving without impact. Never use the adapter with the machine set to Hammer mode.

Hammer drilling in concrete or brick

Caution: Stone drills can get very hot.

It may be necessary to drill with smaller bits and re-drill to nominal size so that later the plug is firmly seated.

For large bores, for instance in very hard concrete, use a smaller bit for pilot drilling and re-drill to nominal size.

Do not apply a lot of pressure on the machine, let the machine do the work, guiding the machine with light pressure is sufficient.

Hold the machine with both hands. The bit can jam, particularly with deep bores, and the machine will turn. This can lead to serious injury.

Battery status indicator

The battery status indicator shows the charge condition of the battery for a few seconds when the On/Off switch is pressed fully or halfway.

  • When 1 LED is lit, the charge is less than 30% and the battery should be charged.
  • When 2 LEDS are lit, the battery is charged between 30 and 70%.
  • When 3 LEDS are lit, the battery is charged between 70 and 90%.
  • When all 4 LEDs are lit, the battery is fully charged.

Charging the battery

- Plug the adapter directly into the charger connection (8). Charging will start when the adapter is plugged into the mains supply.

Temperature overload protection

When using as intended for, the power tool can't be subject to overload. When the load is too high or the battery temperature exceeds 70 °C, the electronic control switched off the power tool until the temperature is within working range again. The battery status indicator (4) flashes green until the On/Off switch is released.

4. MAINTENANCE

The machines are designed to function problem-free for a long period with a minimum of maintenance. Through regular cleaning and correct treatment, you help assure a long working life for your machine.

Cleaning

Clean the machine casings regularly with a soft cloth, preferably after each use. Make sure that the ventilation openings are free of dust and dirt. Remove very persistent dirt using a soft cloth moistened with soapsuds. Do not use any solvents such as gasoline, alcohol, ammonia, etc. Chemicals such as these will damage the synthetic components.
